The Big 8 on the Tour at the moment have NEVER been all present at any one slam

Venus, Serena, Henin, Sharapova, Davenport, Pierce, Mauresmo and Hingis

Next years US Open or Wimbledon Hopefully...hmmm one can dream

that would be one hell of a tournament!

since 1997, they have accounted for at least 2 of the 4 grand slams in a year...and on four occasions (2000,2003,2006,2007) they have accounted for all 4 grand slams won in a year

their total career earnings ON court amounts to $128,654,484!!!!

Im sorry but to consider Mauresmo/ Sharapova/ Pierce on the same plain as a Davneport who you then consider on the same plain as a Serena and VEnus and Henin... and then Hingis who is clearly not one of the BIG 8 anymore..... i mean really..... is a joke...

You will say, today Hingis or Pierce are stronger than Ana, Jelena or Chakve? *lol*
Even behind Davenport you can put a questionmark.

If you consider the results of the past, why not include Navratilova, Graf, Seles, Sanchez Vicario, Evert etc.

well since Pierce is not playing atm, the answer is obviously yes.... this is about the players of this generation (aka still active players). those are clearly the most accomplished players still active
on the other hand, those 8 aren't even in the same league with players like Ana/Jelena/Anna. (a question-mark near Sharapova's name, although when she plays confident she crushes those 3. and she crushed Anna even without confidence :p )

Pierce, Hingis, Davenport, and probably Mauresmo are no longer the "big 8" as they are over the hill and will never win another Slam. Wake up to reality! Pierce and Mauresmo, with only two Slams, are nowhere in the same league with Henin, who has SEVEN Slams.

i think you forgot to use your glasses. becasue it is obvious you didn't/couldn't read my post. :wavey:
they are the great 8 for now, until new players take over their spots. no volunteers so far ;)

Well, sorry to destroy your thread with this fact but, your big 8 has ALREADY been present altogether at the same Slam : at the AO 2006 and MoMo prevailed :p

There are big chances about Venus, Serena, Maria, Lindsay, Amélie, Justine and Martina will play the Australian Open / Wimbledon but I don't know if Mary will. The best notice that I can ever hear is about her comeback :worship:

The big 8 cause achievements.. cause even you wanna to let out Hingis she has 5 Slams.. so just 3 players have more than her.. so.. isnt cause of being an underdog .. the fact: you never can count apart a champ.. I always have said it, as Lindsay or Mary are champs too.. dont be silly .. as long as Jelena and co. can win more than 2 Slams (if Justine let them) or gain a lot of popularity as Maria does, we can talk after that.. dont you think.. there are good players but the line between greatness and the rest is "Majors" and media attention, sorry!

Mary Pierce is much better player than all those. I can bet you that in her first match of her comeback, she can beat any of them. I don't know if Martina can but, Mary? :hatoff:

It is such a stupidity to compare Lindsay Davenport, Mary Pierce or Kim Clijsters with Ana Ivanovic, Anna Chakvetadze or even Jelena Jankovic.

they are still more acomplished than the other girls, thats why they are the big 8,

hingis just beat ana earlier this year, maybe jelena would be more difficult but she can surely defeat anna playing well, and we are talking about the present era hingis, davenport and pierce are from this era.

hingis wont do anything big at a slam and pierce is done and why are these the big 8. venus, serena, henin, sharapova, davenport, capriati,se les, clijsters would make such a great 8. can u imagine these 8 making the quarters of a grand slam.

Fantastic as it would be, it would be like mixing eras having them all playing at a Grand Slam and having them all as the top 8 seeds.

Exactly, Australian Open 2006. I remember saying back then that it was quite probably the last time all those stars would play the same tournament.

Yes they are and they are far less accomplished than the Big 3 except Hingis... but lets face it Hingis hasnt been a factor since 2001......so shes def lost big 8 status....

You say, Hingis won´t do anything big at a slam and Pierce is done (what is probably correct) and than you replace them with Capriati and Seles?
If Pierce is done, what are Capriati and Seles?

Big 4 in GS semi is good enough for me.

in no point in my post did i say that capriati and seles would be making acomeback but since u put two players like hignis and pierce who are done i made a list fo 8 who i thought would make a better 8 including players who are done but would have a better chance of doing something in todays game instead of the powerless hingis and pierce whose movement is just horrible after all the injuries.

Yeah that will be a dream. These are definitely the best 8 players on tour.

I hope it happens at the Australian Open.

Obviously now Ana, Chakvetadze and Jelena are stronger than Davenport, Pierce etc. but I highly doubt that Chakvetadze will come close to achieving what Davenport and Pierce have done. It would take alot for Ana and Jelena to do that aswell.

Both Pierce and Davenport, even at their worst days will blow Ana off the court. Ana is Davenport-minus without Davenport's backhand and serve. She can't trade groundstrokes from both wings with the two champions.

It's def not as a good as LD's, but Ana's serve isn't something to sneer at.

It's unfair to compare AI, AC, and JJ to MH, LD and MP. The new gals are just starting out while the others have all had a full-length career.

Martina, Mary and Lindsay had either won slams or were beating top playerswhen they were the age of AI. AI is now 0-9 against the Big 3 (J-S-V).

ok my error in 2006 they did all play...but they were not all 50% or above fit...

and for all you nobodies posting that Chakvetadze, Jankovic and Ivanovic should be in the top 8?? what are you talking about?

this is a Top 8 according to accomplishments, Nothing else!!

i don't care if Ivanovic beat all 8 of them this year...if she hasn't got anything to show for it...i.e. slam titles they don't mean as much!

maybe hingis and pierce are done now but still they have accomplished SOOO Much more than those three it's unreal, so it's actually not right to mention them in the same breath if you're talking about achievements!

Enough said!

Your big 8 might be someone elses big joke.

Maybe Jankovic and Ivanovic are way 'BIGGER' than Pierce or Hingis, for example.

Did they all play the AO '06? Hopefully Wimbledon this year but the chances are minimal, especially with Lindsay and Mary with a foot already out the door.

Yep, they were all there at the AO in '06, Wimbledon '05 had a pretty incredible line-up too, but Hingis wasn't there :p

Vamos.

Pierce is not one of the big eight. WTF? If Pierce is then so are many others.
