(Well given that Eleni isn't that great anymore, this isn't so much of a surprise, but this does not speak well to the depth of women's tennis. Mind you, I like having different grand slam winners in the women's game then Roger and Nadal winning them all). That Lindsay hasn't played on the tour in many months and she's bound to be rusty? Honestly, I don't see her beating Jelena...yet. But give her time. Don't base her whole comeback on her second match. That's not fair. Good day for her fans ! dwynn10 Sep 11th, 2007, 05:49 PM  16 points in a row? :speakles: :worship: Welcome back Lindsay  No, it was 20 straight points! Davenport's strong comeback is incredible. She's long been one of my faves, but I would be cautious about what this match means in terms of long-term prospects for her. One of my persistent doubts about her is whether she had the mental strength to close out a match with top players (especially with Venus), particularly toward the latter stage of her career in the last few years. It will be interesting to see if having a baby will be beneficial to her peace of mind on the court. And, of course, we'll have to wait and see about her conditioning. At any rate, why not have it all, a family, a new baby, and tennis? Welcome back! lindsayno1 Sep 11th, 2007, 06:02 PM oh my god!!! i actually forgot about this match, bt whhat a beatdown! Gotta love u linds!!! Dmitry Sep 11th, 2007, 06:03 PM Good comeback Lindsay! Wintermute Sep 11th, 2007, 06:08 PM Wow, Lindsay's still got it. So did Eleni get outplayed or did she just play a bad match herself? Perhaps just having Lindsay on the other side is still enough to intimidate players this early in her comeback. mike/topgun Sep 11th, 2007, 06:18 PM OMG:eek: Seriously I could never expect a better COMEBACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!The stats are truly amazing - 9 aces, 2dfs and 95% points won on 1st serve. How great would it be if she can get to the final? :D eck Sep 11th, 2007, 09:45 PM Davenport plays first singles match in almost 1 year, wins in straight sets September 11, 2007 NUSA DUA, Indonesia (AP) -- Lindsay Davenport's first singles match in nearly a year was a winning one Tuesday, an overpowering 6-2, 6-2 victory over fifth-seeded Eleni Daniilidou at the Bali Open. Davenport, who played her last singles match in Beijing 51 weeks ago and then gave birth to son Jagger in June, withstood some early pressure but then took control. The former top-ranked player won a remarkable 20 straight points after trailing 1-2 to win the first set. She then gave up four points in the first four games of the second set en route to the easy win. "It did exceed my expectations," Davenport said. "I know that I can play good tennis, and I know that if I stay healthy and play well, I can do well." Davenport said it will take awhile before she returns to top form. "I'm still a little ways away," she said. "It's only been three months ... I still need to work on my movement around the court." http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/afp/20070911/capt.sge.tgi18.110907134450.photo00.photo.default-359x512.jpg http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/afp/20070911/capt.sge.til54.110907162548.photo00.photo.default-351x512.jpg KoOlMaNsEaN Sep 11th, 2007, 09:47 PM Holy crap Linds is back! "I know that I can play good tennis, and I know that if I stay healthy and play well, I can do well." Davenport said it will take awhile before she returns to top form. "I'm still a little ways away," she said. "It's only been three months ... I still need to work on my movement around the court." http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/afp/20070911/capt.sge.tgi18.110907134450.photo00.photo.default-359x512.jpg http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/afp/20070911/capt.sge.til54.110907162548.photo00.photo.default-351x512.jpg  ce Sep 11th, 2007, 10:11 PM nice to see her back. hopefully she defeats jankovic in the qf (ditty should be no problem). we will see:cool: Brandon85 Sep 11th, 2007, 10:12 PM thank goodness! drory Sep 11th, 2007, 10:15 PM i missed you lindsay !!! welcome back !!! .Andrew. Nothing Pathetic if that 30 something player is Lindsay Davenport bellascarlett Sep 11th, 2007, 11:17 PM  Congrats Lindsay! Great job! She actually might make this work. Can't wait for the match vs. Jelena. RJWCapriati Sep 11th, 2007, 11:20 PM ummmm 20 straight points...............damn Lindsay!!!!!! I'm so happy! :worship: woosey Sep 11th, 2007, 11:30 PM Nothing Pathetic if that 30 something player is Lindsay Davenport to me, it would be equally pathetic if graf came back and thrashed some players -which i no doubt believe she could do. it is pathetic because it shows how truly inferior many of these players are. tterb Sep 12th, 2007, 12:14 AM Lindsay! :D What an awesome first match back! Could've been a little nicer on Eleni ( ), though . Keep it up! Frode Sep 12th, 2007, 12:25 AM Good to see her back:D Would be cool if we could have 2 mothers winning WTA titles this year:cool: WhatTheDeuce Sep 12th, 2007, 12:27 AM Owned! Eleni cracked under the pressure of playing a legend. GermanBoy Sep 12th, 2007, 11:27 AM I am so pleased. Tennis was so boring without Lindsay and Jen. It will be very interesting to see how Jankovic could cope with Lindsay. If she loses we will know how weak the current No. 3 really is and that she, in my opinion anyway, doesn't deserve to be that high in the rankings. If Lindsay loses though, what I hope won't happen, it doesn't matter as it is her first tournament. I really want to see Lindsay back full-time and in the Top 10 if not No. 1 where she belongs. Bruno71 Sep 12th, 2007, 11:37 AM It will be very interesting to see how Jankovic could cope with Lindsay. If she loses we will know how weak the current No. 3 really is and that she, in my opinion anyway, doesn't deserve to be that high in the rankings. That's OK...I'm sure if Jankovic wins, there'll be another loss sometime in her near future you could try to use to justify your opinion. GermanBoy Sep 12th, 2007, 11:43 AM I don't need to justify my opinion. She is just up there because she plays every week. She gets her points due to the quantity of matches she plays. She has had some good wins and strong tournaments but just because she wins smaller tournaments doesn't mean she is a better player than other players who are currently behind her in the rankings such as the Williams sisters and Mauresmo. Playing loads of small tournaments and winning them worked for Martinez, why shouldn't it work for Jankovic... Matt01 Sep 12th, 2007, 11:48 AM She has had some good wins and strong tournaments but just because she wins smaller tournaments doesn't mean she is a better player than other players who are currently behind her in the rankings such as the Williams sisters and Mauresmo. Since when are Charleston and Rome small tournaments? Bruno71 Sep 12th, 2007, 11:49 AM I don't need to justify my opinion. She is just up there because she plays every week. I won't go into the rest of it (such as how you might think Amelie should be ranked ahead of JJ right now based on the last 12 months)...it's a trite conversation. lindsayno1 Sep 12th, 2007, 11:57 AM oh what a load of crap.... the rankings dont always reflect ability. Lindsay isnt a 200 odd ranked player in reality.... Shes a top 25er at this point, with the cleanest strokes on tour. Its no shame losing to Davenport....after all she DID bagel sharapova. Too many people diss JJ. So what if she plays a lot?! shes a bloody good player, a lovely person and its nice to see some personality on the court for once! DaMatz Sep 13th, 2007, 11:08 AM nicely done Lindsay :worship:, goo and win this tournament ;) | |
