Hong Kong like last year.

Yes, I'd asume it'll provide WC for Aus Open again. :wavey:

I wonder who among the Chinese players will compete this year.

A bit difficult to go for me as it will be right before my Christmas holidays :( .

I think I have a scoop here :D . According to my sources, the Asian Championships will take place in Tashkent from 14-20 October.

But it is not the most important thing :

- the Championships will offer prize money of USD 100,000

But it is not even the most important thing :

- the Championships will offer a wild card for both the men and women Championships  :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Isn't it a great news :wavey: :wavey: :wavey: .

I'll post here in case I have more information. But we can be certain with this kind of enticement that many players will sign in :D .

Thanks for the news! :wavey:

Wow, so the winners get WC for both the Season-Ending Championships, and Australian Open.

I find it incredibly difficult to believe it for the Season-Ending Championships, as nothing like this have been offered before! :D

Steveg
Jul 15th, 2002, 04:22 PM
Well, I did not receive information about the Australian Open ;) .

I found it hard to believe myself as it looks like it is completely changing the tour championships organisation  .

lin
Jul 16th, 2002, 09:33 AM
Season-Ending Championships  I thought it's Aus Open WC before :o .

Are the Season-Ending Championships in Shanghai and Los Angeles,if yes,I think it's unfair especially in men's Season-Ending Championships  .

I still prefer Aus Open WC :) .

King Aaron

Aus Open WC would already be enough !!

Steveg
Jul 16th, 2002, 11:13 AM
With a year-end Championships Wild Card, all the big shots should be there (as I mentioned earlier ;) ).

So these Championships should be much more interesting with already well established players as well as up-and-coming ones :D .

Definitely worth a look :) . I wonder how coverage will be, because if it is the same as for the WTA event, it will be a nightmare :( .

The schedule on the other hand is good because there are not major tournaments attended by Asian players at that time.

lin
Jul 16th, 2002, 11:27 AM
well,if young players wins,I think it'll be fine, because they can gain experience.

And It's good that all the big shots will be there.

But I still think grab one spot in Shanghai for Men's winner is too much, women's is a little bit better as there will be 16 players.

I wonder non-Asian will think about it...

Correction : the WC are indeed for the Oz Open :o . I had received wrong information the first time :( .

Sorry about that  .

Entries deadline is October 5th  , ie one week before the Championships. So not much information until then  .

One more thing : there are about 95% I will be there :) .

Thanks for the commitment list Steve ;)
Is there any tournament at the same time during this championship??? Just wondering why Wynne and Angie don't play here....

Last year Angie skipped because she want to celebrate her b'day. ANd wynne did play.... Just wondering their reason to skip this championship....

King Aaron

If I'm correct, the winner gets a WC into Oz Open. I don't think Angie and Wynne need a WC, so maybe that's why they didn't committ

Steveg,

You said the entry deadline is October 5. Does that mean that the commitment list you posted is an early list and could change?

Jay

PS: I did hear from Nirupama that she will be playing for India there at Tashkent.
