View Full Version : Tennis Hotties Tournament (Maria Sharapova wins!)

I think it's safe to say that out of all the sports women play, tennis easily has the hottest players. That said, how in the world do you pick just one as the hottest of them all? I have the solution:

http://tennishottiestourney.bravehost.com/

Starting in a little over an hour, this tournament that I've created will begin. It's the Tennis Hotties Tournament, and it features 28 of the WTA's most beautiful players. The tournament site should tell you everything you need to know, but if you have any questions, just let me know here. I figure there will be a lot of participation considering there are a lot of people here, and the more participation, the better the tournament. I'm excited about this... it should be fun. And no, I'm not voting... you already know who my champion is. :)

One of Portugal's finest exports (yeah, I know, technically she's not an export).

The outfits of women's hockey players are quite flattering. Makes you wonder why female footballer's don't wear something of the sort instead of the usual oversized men's kit.

Talk about going off-topic.

First off, thanks to the people who voted so far. I'm liking the mass participation... it makes the results of this tournament mean more when more people vote. But those of you that are posting your votes here, please post them in the voting forum instead. I can't count them if they're over here, because I don't know if you already voted over there.

And let me clear something up. I never said other sports didn't have hotties. They definitely do... I can name a ton of beautiful female athletes. I just said that in my opinion, tennis has the best of them all.

The "freakishly tall" thing is part of the spikers' charm. I'm aware that it would raise some, let's say, practical difficulties, but I don't think of these women in terms of, let's say, close combat. Much.

Obviously there are underaged gymnasts, just like there are underaged tennis players... but check out Dom Dawes sometime... She's deep into her 20's and better looking than any tennis player currently playing... Or Brandi Johnson, who's in her 30's... there are plenty more... and there are certainly no Marion Bartolis bouncing around...

Onyxangel
Sep 11th, 2007, 09:26 PM
Also, if we're discussing popularity here, it should be noted that the latest widespread national poll was won by a race car driver, and not one named Danica Patrick, who finished 2nd...

So if the top 2 girls in a national poll are race-car drivers, a sport which hasn't even been mentioned by any of the dissenters here so far, I think it's safe to say that tennis players do not have anything close to a 'duh'-level monopoly on attractiveness, as some posters here seem to be insinuating...

Okay... I have a bit of an issue. There's a tie in one of the matchups, and I don't know how to break it. Usually, the tiebreaker is largest average margin of victory, but this is the first matchup these two players have been in. So, if anyone has any suggestions or wants to vote right now, I'll allow a few minutes for that. Only one voter, though.

Under seven hours left to go in this voting round, and only seven votes. I'm trying to figure out what has caused the major drop in participation, but I don't know. I understand why it happened in the last couple of weeks with my computer being down, but now... it's puzzling. Perhaps people are getting tired of pool play; I agree that I made it a bit too long. Fortunately, it's almost over, and tournament play is around the corner. Also, the next tournament will have a shorter pool play... that's for sure.

Wow... really sorry about not updating the site, guys. I've been incredibly busy and just didn't get the chance. To make up for this, I've extended the next voting round (which is now underway) by one day. The tournament play field is starting to get clearer, though. Pool A's participants are set, and Pool B is near that point, as well. In Pool B, it's simple: if Sania Mirza wins her next matchup, she's in over Martina Hingis (who is done with her pool play matchups). If she doesn't, Hingis moves on. Pool C and Pool D are still kind of unclear, although this next voting round will change that greatly.

Sania Mirza's going to have to earn her trip to tournament play... she's in a close one with Mara Santangelo, who's just looking to play spoiler. Keep those votes coming, guys. It's getting exciting now.

Man, what a close race. Definitely keep those votes coming, because every vote matters now. Looking at the standings... trust me when I say that.

What a finish! Sania Mirza's run in this competition is over after a vote for Mara Santangelo just 15 minutes before midnight broke a 5-5 tie and ended her hopes. Also, Maria Kirilenko edged Daniela Hantuchova for the top seed in Pool A after barely winning a head-to-head tiebreaker in largest margin of victory. Now, one final voting round remains before tournament play can begin. It's now underway, and you know what to do.

The two matchups that are tied so far are, appropriately, the only two that have playoff implications. Vera Zvonareva and Julia Vakulenko are just battling for seeding, while Dominika Cibulkova and Alona Bondarenko are fighting to make tournament play. Keep voting... every vote matters now.

One day left in pool play. If you haven't voted yet, there's still time.

Down to just over eight hours left, and it's looking like our tournament play field is set. Still some time to vote, though, so you never know what can happen.

Two hours left! Last chance to vote in pool play.

Finally... pool play is over, and the bracket for tournament play is set! Now, it's do or die time for the 16 players remaining. Win, and you move on. Lose, and you're done. The first voting round in the first round is now underway, so get to voting!

Just one vote so far? It's tournament play... let's see some more votes!

You probably would have been better off doing it all in this thread. Too much effort to go to another forum.

No it's not. You simply go there and post... a username isn't even required.

Eight votes so far... I figured participation would go up a bit once tournament play started. Keep those votes coming.

Still a couple of hours left to vote. There's still two matchups that could go either way, so every vote is big.

Maria Kirilenko and Nicole Vaidisova cruised to the quarterfinals with 9-1 victories, while Anna Chakvetadze and Daniela Hantuchova narrowly came out on top. Hantuchova won her matchup by having a larger average margin of victory than her opponent, Gisela Dulko. Now it's time for the second half of the first round, so get those votes in.

Now it's on to the quarterfinals. I doubt there'll be a blowout from here on out. Hopefully, participation will go up since the matchups are huge now.

Wow... look at the skyrocket in participation! This is what everyone was waiting for. All four matchups have the same exact score... very interesting. Bring on the votes!

Nearly two days gone in the quarterfinals, and the leaders are starting to pull away. There's still time, though, so if you haven't voted yet, go ahead and do so.

About 10 hours left to vote. There are still a couple of matchups that could go either way, so we'll see what happens.

Man... there's one really, really close matchup going on right now. It could go either way, and there's still 42 minutes to vote.

heelsrule1988
Nov 6th, 2007, 05:00 AM
On to the semifinals! Three of the four matchups were fairly close, but one was really close. Once again, Daniela Hantuchova played to a tie, and once again, she won the tiebreaker, this time over Anna Chakvetadze. Now, she faces Maria Kirilenko in the first semifinal. Voting is underway in that matchup.

Participation was very high in the quarterfinals, but this round, it seems to have gone back down a bit. Let's get some votes, guys... this is the most important part of the tournament.

Halfway through the first semifinals, and we could definitely use some more votes. Kirilenko and Hantuchova fans... this is your matchup!

Only a few votes so far... surprising. I figured such a big matchup would get more. Not even a day has passed, though, so there's still loads of time to vote if you haven't already.

I'm seeing some multiple voting going on... and simply put, that will not be tolerated, especially in the championship.

That'll do it! Maria Sharapova may have fallen short in Madrid, but in this tournament, she finishes on top. Many, many thanks to all of you that voted. You guys are the ones that make things like this go, of course.

I'm sad to see the tournament come to a close, but believe me... bigger things are ahead. This was a tournament featuring just the big names, but me and another person here are currently working on a tournament that will feature loads of players. When I say loads, trust me... I mean loads. Look for that tournament to start sometime next month; possibly sooner if we get it all together quickly enough.
