The only thing that I remember about Jim Rome is Jim Everett hanging his foot in his ass when he kept calling him Chrissie Evert. Now that was funny.

He's basically an ass who feels his opinion is superior to everyone else's.

It was also fake. His comments in this particular video were, imo, tame. I've seen him go off much worse.

I thought it was harsh. He's just following the rest of the media. I do agree she should have just taken the fine and not shown.

I think the post-match interviews should only be mandatory for the winners and optional for the losers.

so now, winning grand slams is a prerequisite to have an opinion? :retard::retard: he's just doing his job on his show, so shut up and stop being so pathetically defensive. :help:

And financially how well off are you?

I've never understood that criticism whenever someone critcizes a top player. If you're only allowed an opinion for doing great things, none of us have right to one.

Having these people bash Serena is probably hopefully going to make her more determined.

Rome never pulls any punches. He can be an asshole but he usually has a good point. He's irritating when he rips on one of your personal favorites but they've usually made an ass of themselves somehow to find their way onto his radar screen.

Serena got a lot of press for her comments. This is NYDaily News Bob Raismann

Dweeb of the Week

Serena Williams

For her classless post-match interview after she was defeated by Justine Henin Tuesday in a U.S. Open quaterfinal match. "I just think she made a lot of lucky shots, and I made a lot of errors," Williams said. Serena was in no mood to give Henin any credit. In fact, Williams said the only reason she attended the press conference was out of fear of being fined $10,000 if she didn't show. The attitude Williams displayed was a turn-off. Perhaps this is why the viewing audience is turning off tennis and the Open. The TV (CBS and USA) ratings are in the toilet.

Is her meltdown any better compared to Mariah Carey's "meltdown"?
I hope Serena will give out popsicles to everyone.

Isn't her meltdown old news now? There seems to be a brand new loser trying to use it to reclaim their fifteen minutes of fame everyday.

Exactly, that's what he does and he's made a lot of money doing it. He takes a truth that hurts and makes it hurt even more. But, he starts with a truth, which in this case is that Serena's post-match interview was childish and immature. I guess it's fair to say the same about Jim Rome. He's an ass-clown.

I think you're trying to say Venus got flack for her interview. If she did, I didn't hear any of it. As for Serena's interview, it wouldn't matter who put on a show like she did, hell it could be Mother Theresa and she'd catch flack; in other words, the media wouldn't cut her much slack.

There was nothing wrong with Serena's interview. You guys are really blowing it out of proportion. You don't get upset when you lose? Or are you so used to it that you no longer feel pain?.. LOSERS!

you guys don't even know who Jim Rome is. the guy tells it like it is, and really doesn't hold back. that's why he has his own radio show, and now tv show. if jim rome is bashing you that badly you usually deserve it, and he lays it on pretty thick. he doesn't care if the athlete cares, it's just his take.

So now the Williamses are ton blame for people not tuning into tennis.
Earlier, Mary Carillo blamed them for the lopsided womem's draw
What will the media blame them for next? bin Laden's new tape?

Damn! Venus and mostly Serena have a lot of power!

The media is not pissed off by the "lucky shots" comment, I think they are more angry with the way she treated them. It would be better if the media reported on Justines win and ignored Serena. They're just giving Serena more publicity.

WTAworld is a trip.

On one hand, Serena Williams could stick her opponent with a knife in the tunnel after a match and some people would claim that if another (meaning white... and for the purpose of this argument, James Blake is white) player did it nobody would make a big deal out of it.

On the other hand, Serena could save an opponent's life by dragging her from a burning building and some people would call her an attention whore and say she should worry about training and fulfilling her tournament commitments rather than fooling around playing fire fighter.

C'mon kids, face facts: Serena is a great player and a fine, classy, generous young woman who also occasionally says or does the wrong thing. She's only human, after all. The only player incapable of ever saying or doing the wrong thing is Myskina. Otherwise, they're all fallible.

No, I haven't read anything negative about Venus' post-match interview after losing to Justine. I thought Venus was about as classy and gracious as possible. Serena, on the other hand, I knew was giving the sports media something to write about. She should have said, "Merry Christmas!" after she finished, 'cause she may as well have gift-wrapped the story for them. I'm guessing that's 5 minutes Serena would like to do over.

I can't believe it me and LizChris might concur on something. While I was not too fond of Serena's post match interview, I think it is absurd to blame the sisters for people tuning out of women's tennis.
They ARE the reason why MORE people have been tuning into women's tennis.
The sisters are the reason why the US women's final is now in prime time.
S and V have made tennis possible to people who might never have had the chance to enjoy it
I must give props where props are due.
And for that I tip my hat to Venus and Serena:D

All true. Very true. The media coverage of Serena's little hissy fit will only stoke interest, not turn people away. It's true that if most other players behaved in the manner Serena did, people wouldn't care. They care because it's Serena Fucking Williams! Good, bad or indifferent, she's a rock-star.

Good, bad or indifferent, she's a rock-star.In her own mind! It got a lot of play because it's the U.S Open, and she is an american player. I doubt it got as much play around the world -- except maybe Belgium.
