Yes. 2 or 3 months ago, I heard/saw FOX Sports News in Australia quote Federer as saying that Svetlana Kuznetsova is his favorite WTA player.

Or was in Eurosport News? I definately heard a news story by one of these channels who mentioned it...

He might only have watched her Miami 2006 run, which I think was her best tennis by far..

Yep, and why shouldn't he appreciate it? He's a fan of Justine too - and she obviously has the more aesthetically pleasing game - but Svetlana's power game, when it's on fire, is breathtaking to watch. And she can hit mean volleys too, which Fed appreciates being more of a net man now himself. And correct me if I'm wrong but I think the appreciation is mutual: hasn't Sveta complimented Roger in the past?

I like watching Sveta when she's on her game. But when she's nervous, like yesterday, she hits too many UEs and then plays too tentatively. She still hit a few impressive winners though.

It's a bit like Serena or Sharapova's games, not that they're similar just that when on they are amazing to watch, when off they're REALLY messy.

I really don't think Fed likes people comparing Justine's game to his. When the interviewer's try to throw in a Henin reference he usually says Kuzzy or somebody else is his favorite female player.:tape::lol:

Federer changes his mind with who's winning. First it was Justine, then Kuzzie, then Serena...

I like her rotation on her forehand. Her follow-through is beautiful, but the one thing I hate about her game is how she always hits the ball into the net. At least with Dementieva, we know she's going to consistently get the ball over the net, but Sveta buries too many balls into the net. I think it's mainly because she's catches the ball way too late.

Yes, I remember he said at the FO Sveta is his favorite for the title.
I like her game as well, she's very talented, much more analytic than she used to be. she has a lot of weaposn, and she's still very young. I also think she's more comfortable on a slow surface, like the ones in AO and clay of course.

Roger did not say she was his favourite.player ..he said he thought shes the favourite to win Roland Garros 2007 . Don't speak to me, tell the TV stations because I know what I heard! They were not talking about gambling or predictions.

It is hard to believe the media though, probably FOX Sports because they are always creating stupid propaganda.

PARIS: Roger Federer picked Svetlana Kuznetsova to win the women's title at the French Open.
The top-ranked Federer, when asked to name who he thought would claim the Grand Slam title, shot back an answer almost as quickly as one of his forehands.
"Kuznetsova," Federer said Friday. "I like her game. She plays well."

Kuznetsova stunned by Federer compliment

Thinking people were making it up, Svetlana Kuznetsova logged on to the Internet to read the evidence herself.
When she saw it written in plain English, she had to pinch herself - Roger Federer had picked out the Russia (http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/data/russia.html)n as his favorite player on the women's tour.
"I like her game, she plays well," Federer declared earlier in the week.
It sent Kuznetsova into a spin.
"The Russian press told me and I thought 'No, it was a joke'. So I wanted to check it myself and read this on the Internet," the third seed said after reaching the quarterfinals at Roland Garros.
"If I would have to choose a compliment from anybody, it's definitely the best I ever heard. Roger is a legend and to hear him say that is almost a dream.
"It's unbelievable to hear my hero say this about my tennis."
A runner-up in Paris 12 months ago, Kuznetsova is now eager to back up Federer's endorsement by winning the title on Saturday.
"If he likes my game, I would like to prove it more," she said.

He did...
and when Kuzy found out she was over the moon, said he was her idol and stuff and it was the best compliment she ever had.

But Fed is superstitious, everytime Justine wins Rafa wins so he always picks some other player as favorite in RG than Justine! :p

Yeah, when Svetlana is on her game and everything is working she's great to watch. We all agree she's not consistently playing to a high level as she could. That might well come with maturity and shot selection experience at the right moments.

But I'm not surprised because the first thing I said to Svetlana's agent last year when I met him was how much Svetlana's game reminds me of Sampras on hardcourts - going for her shots, the big forehand, getting to net to finish off points, the liking of the forehand down the line especially off her opponent's return of serve, athleticism, all Sampras traits. And even though Federer doesn't volley much anymore due to on average slower courts, he more or less modelled his game after Sampras and Becker. Of course she's not playing to Sampras' standard and consistency but I'm hoping in terms of womens Tennis that one day it will all come together and she will be a consistent performer at the highest level. That's why I follow her.
