I really don't understand this comeback...
But anyway, hopefully Lindsay wins her two matches before Jankovic.

WHY is Jankovic even playing? This is ridiculous. She'll win this shit with ease in all likelihood, and for what? BALI? WTF!

Tami has a nice draw ;)

She's supposed to play a certain # of Tier III tourneys as she was on the Gold Exempt list 14-20 after the US Open last year. I don't know if there's any penalty for not fulfilling this.

It's a popular tournament with players due to the location. Lindsay played it in 2005 & 2006.

I would think Jelena has paid her dues as far as playing lots of events...

And Davenport-- why fly to Indonesia to play some tier 3?
I guess I don't understand her comeback at all in the first place, but please, INDONESIA?!

So? It's a tier 3 the week after the US Open. It's senseless for a top player to play here especially when she lost her last match just a few days ago due to fatigue.

You'd think so, but apparently 5 Tier III's are required. At least if I'm understanding the rulebook right.

I don't really know about Lindsay and her comeback...I kind of felt like a lot of it might have to do with wanting to play the Olympics next year.

what's not to understand? She believes she can be both a mom and a top tennis player again at the same time. that's great! and I think she can be too. Danilidou has been playing well lately, but she doesn't have a big serve or especially big groundstrokes, so lindsay should have time to set up and give it a whack. Jelena would be a LOT more tricky.

5 tier 3's? That can't be right...

Davenport's whole situation just befuddles me. When she left tennis, she seemed completely at peace with things coming to an end, getting away from the courts, the grind, the travel, and all that. Now she claims she wants to play a limited schedule focused around majors-- but isn't that what she's been doing the last several years? I just tend to think she's headed for a real disappoinement. She's been at the very top of the game for 6 whole years since winning her last major. The olympics are a good explanation. Playing the olympics once more would be a delightful end to her career. That's all I can see as a positive from this.
And Indonesia isn't exactly a great place to make a comeback.

I guess I liked the way she left the game and don't want to see it get messed up. She has no unfinished business. She put so much effort into chasing another major, I just hope she doesn't get disappointed. If it's all for fun, then that's great for her. I just can't understand why she'd be playing in Indonesia with a baby.

should be interesting to see how lindsay goes, she should win over daniilidou, but it depends of the lack of match play lindsay has though & if she is able to overcome that.

and if she faces jelena, it won't be easy.

Is Indonesia the hell on earth or what are you talking about??? I was in Bali for holidays and it was such a special and beautiful place.

What's wrong with chosing a Tier III as first tournament after a really long period of having not played?? Should she play a Tier I event at first, with a much tougher draw, maybe facing a Top 10 player already in the first round and crash out to a tough opponent in the first round??? Sorry I don't see your logic.

You can't compare the current Lindsay with the in-form and regulary playing Lindsay of 2004 and 2005. She needs matches and this can't happen with always losing in the first round because of entering big tournaments with tough draws.

Why is JJ playing Bali?? From her US Open interview, it sounded like she was going to take a break because she mentioned that her body was tired because she was playing too much. She also said her level of play dropped because of that. Please rest!

Davenport has played in Bali a few times over the years. I'm confused as to whether you are disagreeing with Davenport coming back (which is entirely her choice, there's no point fighting it) or the fact that she is making her comeback in Bali.

Lindsay favours the Asian tournaments compared to Europe in Winter. As players love the Asian events for their surroundings and the treatment of the players, itīs not that surprising Lindsay and Jelena play there.

@ faboozadoo15: You're a little bit conceited, aren't you? I suppose you're from the United States of America. Is that right?
Lots of people from America obviously believe that their country is the centre of the universe. This is just pathetic.
Indonesia is a beautiful place. If I were a successful tennis player, I would definitely play there. The atmosphere must be very agreeable. :)

I feel one has to realise a player's choice for entering a tournament can be due to a player's liking for that tournament/place like Bali. So, this low/high tier or USA/Europe/Bali Indonesia is totally irrelevant.

Being a top player that Linsay/Patty are, their fondness and participation of this low-tier Bali tournament all these years can only speak a positive note about themselves as a person who is very mortal and down to earth. These attributes can only connect to people/fans around the world who are fun-loving, positive and down to earth.

Janko will have almost one full week off rest between her last match in NY and her first match in Bali. And after Bali she has 2 weeks off. Honestly I don't see a big problem here, Janko is not Serena ;) :p

Lindsay has said in the past that when she plays Bali, it feels like a vacation. She brings her husband and her mom and they always enjoy themselves. As far as Beijing goes, I think that's strictly Lindsay preparing for Beijing '08 and getting used to playing in that area.

She certainly could have had an easier first round than Eleni, but I'm confident she'll get to the quarters of this tournament and give a good showing against Jankovic. The doubles draw at this tournament is a JOKE and I completely expect Lindsay and Daniela to roll through to the title. Danilidou and Woehr as the top seeds:o

You expect her to return at a Slam or a Tier I and get her ass kicked in the first round? It's smart to come back at a Tier III with a weak field, her chances of winning a few matches increases...

Anyway, this a bad draw, Daniilidou will be tough :( I hope she makes the second round and plays Sromova, Lindsay beat her 6-1 6-0 here last year

Agreed. Lindsay won the tournament in 2005 and said that Bali is one of her favourite places in the world, so appearing in an environment that she feels comfortable in could help her cause.
