2003 > 2006.
2007 still has too much time to rank it.

I vote for 2003, with an asterick that if she wins YEC, 2007 > 2003. :p

I don't think you can compare until the end of the year.

2007, no two ways about it. This is the completest game she's ever had. Good enough to beat WS back to back on a fast hard court. You'd only dream of that happening in 2003. Her W-L record is ofcourse much better than in 2003 too.

Henin had classic matches before 2006. I miss that from her. I can't think of one great match of hers since 2005.

I'll go with 2003.

2007 isn't over yet, and while I think Justine is playing better now than in 2003, only when the season ends we'll see if that translates in achievements. Justine can't top her Tier I results of 2003, but she can win the YEC again and improve her personal record of titles won in one season.

In terms of game, 2007 > 2003 > 2006
In terms of achievements, Justine will have to win YEC for 2007 to be better than 2003.

Oh, and San Diego was NOT a Tier I when Justine won, unfortunately. So she only won 4 in 2003.

i don't know about the years, but this by far is my fave tournament win in terms of quality players beaten to win it. I'm still elated she beat both sisters (in straight sets no less!) to win the title. and met a uso champ in the finals, so quality opponent there as well. wow.

Justine is like a fine wine that gets better with age. 2007 has been her best tennis. Ever.

2007

Why?

Henin won 7 of the 11 tournaments she entered, 50-4, 3rd consecutive FO titleist, 4-0 against Venus and Serena, and her record versus the top 10 in 2007:

Henin was (18-3) 86% vs today's top ten opponents:eek:

Players Henin lost to in 2007 (4 players, 4 losses) Serena Williams, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Marion Bartoli and Lucie Safarova.

1 (1) HENIN, JUSTINE BEL
2 (2) SHARAPOVA, MARIA RUS (0-0)
3 (3) JANKOVIC, JELENA SRB (5-0)
4 (4) KUZNETSOVA, SVETLANA RUS (3-1)
5 (5) IVANOVIC, ANA SRB (1-0)
6 (6) CHAKVETADZE, ANNA RUS (1-0)
7 (7) MAURESMO, AMELIE FRA (2-0)
8 (8) PETROVA, NADIA RUS (2-0)
9 (9) WILLIAMS, SERENA USA (3-1)
10 (11) BARTOLI, MARION FRA (1-1)

I'll go with 2003.

but all of those classic went to three sets, so i'd take straight set win any day over a three set struggle, although those matches are what makes justine the player she is today.

2007... she is clearly playing at a much higher level than in 2003, dominating the top 10, or well, the whole tour actually.

Her quality of tennis is better this year than it was in 2003, and she has also been far more dominant over the rest of the tour.

I think Justine's physical peak was from 2003 San Diego to 2004 Indian Wells. And She was probably playing her best back then. But the Justine of 2007 beats the Justine of 2003-04 in the mental department, perhaps.

I think Justine also get a different attitude than she did in 2003. She was like Clijsters, playing lots of matches, winning many titles, and wearing herself out. She's more like a real number one now. She plays one or two tournaments as preparation for Grand Slam, not as her ultimate goal. And she can beat everyone on the court at the majors. If she can keep her form, I think she can be even better with the gaining of confidence at the US open this year. Beating the Williams who were once considered as good or even better than her really proves she's the number one without doubt.
