I don't know of another player in recent tennis history that was able to do it. I don't think Evert responded as favorably when she divorced John Lloyd.

Are there others?

Evert was 32 years old and at the very end of her career when she divorced Lloyd so I don't necessarily think that's a good comparison. A better comparison regarding Evert might be her break-up with Jimmy Connors at the end of '74. From there she went on to win 2 of her next three GS titles (actually 4 of the next 5 and 5 of the next 7, but that took her all the way to the end of '77 as she only played 3 Grand Slams in '75, and 2 per year in both '76-'77). Chris stated that after breaking up with Connors tennis was her way of coping and put all of her energy into it.

Not many women of the Open era get married during their careers (at least women who are capable of winning Slams), besides Evert the only ones that come to mind are: Davenport, Cawley, King, Court and GunterI can't think of anymore off hand. However, of that group Evert is the only one who was divorced while still playing (King divorced after she retired).

Thats hardly an "achievement".

Very few players will get married when playing. Even fewer will then get divorced. Even fewer still would be GS contenders in the first place.

Its like saying that Justine won a GS in red and white with blue underwear. How many other players have done that??? Or Venus won GS's whilst having pink varnished toenails. Or Novotna won a GS whilst in the throes of moving house. Whooop de doo.

she was probably stuggling with the relationship the last few years and it is only thisyear they made it public. Perhaps it is why she threw herself into her tennis. She is alos a very tough girl is Justine.

All and all it has been impressive to come back after such a long layoff then not lose any before the semifinal and win 7/11 events this year.

Different people react in different ways.

I think Justine reacted by focussing intently on her tennis in order to distract herself from emotional matters.

Last year Henin in unhappy marriage = 3 finals, 1 slam + 1 YEC
Great rebound this year from not playing Aus Open... bet she would have won it anyway.
