Justine clearly earned the whole title, beating both Williams sisters in straight sets. She was the outright best player out there, and it showed in every single match. Congrats Justine, and hopefully the rest of the players can figure out how to beat this one iron-woman from Belgium

Absolutely awesome play from Justine! :worship:

She started so strong and didn't give Svetlana a chance in the match. The second was a bit more competitive and those missed BP chances for Svetlana was crucial. Justine was having a hard time serving it out, 3 DF's in a game, and Svetlana wasn't bold/aggressive at all and just chose to guide the ball.

A disappointing performance from Svetlana but a great tournament overall!

Btw, did anyone see the bodyguard?

I've never seen Kuznetsova hit the ball so short (at times) and playing so safe.
Maybe the occasion and the complex she has vs, did her in?
Pretty boring match.

Venus vs Jankovic & Henin vs Venus Williams were the best matchs of this tournie.
(Peer vs Vaidisova was great too.)

Worst match involving 2 marquee players that i have had the misfortune of watching since the clay court season. 30 UFE from Kuznetsova contributing to Henin's total of 70 points, practically half. Henin's serve was awful too. Low Percentage 7 doubles. I think Justine did have an emotional let down, Kuznetsova was just too useless to capitalise, I mean she had 3 game points in a row and then more at 1-2 second set, then 15-40 in the next game and lost both, then those 3 break points in the final game, where Henin had an almighty choke. The worst thing was that Sveta looked fearful of putting her best ball into play, so tentitive. at Sam Smith complimenting Henin on her amazing play, it was the worst match she's played all tournie  and was far from amazing. She did what she had to against Sveta - ENOUGH.

Sep 9th, 2007, 02:41 AM
That was a weird match. Juju played strangely - breathtaking at times and awful at other times. She only needed to get her balls in to win the points on most occasions, unlike in the previous match against Venus where she had to push and go for the lines. Sveta just played horrible throughout.

However, Juju was really the player of the tournament. She played thoroughly below her standards in the final and still thrashed the number 2 player in the world. Congrats~!

Delighted to see this result. The most technically competent and complete player on the tour has shown that she can humble those who only really bring power to the table.

I personally hope she can dominate for some time and force the other players, and the juniors coming along after, to raise the bar and learn to play with variety and imagination if they want to be the best.

It's time we got back to the idea that having a backhand slice, and being able to approach the net and volley well to end points there, are not optional extras but a vital component of a tennis player's arsenal.

Hopefully Justine can point them in the right direction.

We're witnessing one of the best players ever in Henin, and she'll probably get better. Just amazing. A first - no player, 'till now, had beaten both WS and then gone on to win the final. Kuzzy needs a psychologist pronto. Total headcase.

Who ever that fan was that screamed when Justine was close to finishing out the match needed to have security come over, take 'em to a back room, and 'give 'em the Jersey treatment'.

Justine! :woohoo:

Just got back from the tennis center, from where I was sitting, Justine played pretty well. There was just a big difference between the two players out there. Justine's defense  Even when Svetlana began to get the upperhand during a point, Justine found a way to win it by getting almost everything back and turn defense to offense. Then Svetlana did her job of hitting way wide or way long. Anyway, well-deserved for Justine. Congrats!

Sveta...:help: Never got it going...and she can't say she didn't have any chances to do better than she did.

Who said Hardenne? I missed that as well as the guard falling.

congrats justine :yeah: you deserved this title.
she was brilliant in every aspect of her game & her defense game was just fantastic & what was even better was the fact that she turned it into attack.
gotta be the best GS title winning run of her career i reckon (beating both the sisters with agility, power & net play).

sveta
she had lots of opportunities, but just couldn't convert on the crucial pts when she needed to with errors & justine's forceful play.
she just needs to learn how to topple the big guns in these situations like slam finals & that comes with experience.

but once again justine was just a class above sveta.

Congratulations Justine!:)

I was sad when you beat Serena and disappointed when you beat Vee, but there is no shame to losing to such a great player.

Justine has a lovely game, great fighting spirit and is definitely the hardest player to beat!!

Btw good effort Svetlana, but way too many UE.

I wonder if Venus and Serena can remain injury free for a few months next year to compete with Justine, because iif they do their matches with Justine will make womens tennis much more exciting.

Congratulations to Justine :woohoo: :bigclap:. She has been in stunning form throughout the tournament, not even dropping a set, despite her tough draw, and she has proved that she is the best player in the world without a shadow of a doubt. I thought Sveta could do better, I mean, she didn't play awful during the whole match, just the big points, that's the reason the score is like this. She will be better next time she'll reach GS final, I'm sure.

Justine played well enough to win, she was realy tired, GS are tough. :)
Great finish with that Serve&Volley, I just knew she would do that, just so Carlos won't bother her with that.

I felt a bit sorry for the fans. You could have thought it was a final between world no. 1 and world no.99:rolleyes:. Sveta was made to look like a junior player:eek: . What a gulf in class between two top-ranked players!

Sveta  . 0/6 on bp's says it all really, Sveta had real chances in this match especially the 2nd set and failed to take any of them. The match was much closer than the score suggests, in fact Sveta had game points in every single game of the second set except one, if she had taken her chances she really could have pushed this to three, its just that Justine won all the big points, i feel if Sveta had of played her best she really could have pushed this too three and perhaps even won it. It was a shame that Sveta hadn't played under the lights at Ashe before this tournament and it probably contributed to the poor start she made. I had to turn the tv on mute in the second set, i mean is it really neccessary to say allez after every single point you win, whats next...saying it even when you don't win the point. All in all oim extremely proud to be a Sveta fan, its been a great tournament, its a shame she couldn't quite reach her best form in the final, but it was good to see that she was so dissapointed after she lost, i think its a good sign for the future. Its great Sveta is number 2 and she really deserves the ranking. Now go win the fed cup Sveta, Vamos.

This is just brilliant. She owns her opponents. Impressive. :worship:
She's won all matches in a tough GS draw, in straight sets.

I loved it when Justine went into the stands to embrace Carlos! I don^t think she ever did that before. Too bad the Williams family wasn^t there-lol!! I wonder, was that a statement to those who have accused Carlos of cheating/coaching? Anyhow, Congrats to the the great little Belgian Iron Lady!!

Congrats Justine!
I don't think the match was as awful as some of you have written. A lot of really nice shots, winners etc.

I thought the ball bounced twice before Sveta hit it on MP
Anyway,Ju hit a good lob so the job was done ;)

Well done Juju - really deserved to win the title with such consistent performances like that produced over the past 2 weeks.

And at least Venus managed to take the most games off Justine so a mini achievement for her ;) Justine is now wedged in between Venus and Serena in terms of slam wins

I though Sveta played quite well considering the situation, but every time she got a chance Justine was too good. It wasn't the best match but definately better than the scoreline suggested, really wish Sveta could have won a few of those deuce games and made it a better match. It reminded me a lot of the Wimbly final where Bartoli had quite a few game points/break points in the 2nd and it WAS close but she just couldn't take any of them and so you knew she was never gonna win.

I was at Arthur Ashe for the final, and most of the crowd found it boring. I really have to agree, although some comments made by people around me were very puzzling (ex. Someone trying to say that Justine's serve is terrible. Umm..Hello? She was only broken a handful of times throughout the tournament). Sveta made too many errors, which isn't a testament to her lack of skill, as it just exemplifies how good Justine is. The crowd, at least around me, wasn't really into the match. Anytime Sveta had any opportunity, Justine just raised her level. Impressive performance from the No. 1 seed, but not really a "great" match to see live.

Fabulous tournament Justine!!! :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :worship: :worship: :worship:

The final wasn't great, Kuzzy kept hitting the ball out :help: But Justine stayed focused and done all that was required :) :bounce: Well done Kuzzy on getting to the final aswell, although I wouldnt have expected anything less after Sharapova went out.

Sveta played awful, totally awful, could not handle her nerves at all, feet not moving, no forehand at all.. very slow and awkward movement, especially when forward.. almost forcing herself to hitting instead of pushing the ball at times.. Justine didn't play well at all either, but she at least was not as tight.. Sveta definitely has a problem playing in finals these days. 5 huge finals lost this year. None won.

Agreed. It was very boring and poorly played, pretty much from both ends, thogh Henin's performance qualifies as medicore, rather than awful which is the case with Sveta.. TV announcers found it hard to even talk about the match , most of what they've said were about something else, there was nothing to say about what was happening on court..
