I'm not the biggest Sveta fan, but these threads are so disrespectful.
I would watch Henin Vs Kuzy in the final of a tier 2.

Of course I'll watch the US Open final. It's very important.

Um yes. I never miss a grand slam final. Not since 2004 AO.

OrdinaryfoolisNJ
Sep 8th, 2007, 05:30 AM
I'll drop in on it for sure, but I don't have a great excitement or anticipation, and won't be making a point to get to the TV set early and record the match.

As much as I respect The Mighty Midget, I hope that Kutzy pulls out an unbelievable upset (and its not impossible, since Henin put so much energy into her last two matches).

Probably but I wont be upset if I miss it.

Yes. I've suffered thru some crappy USO finals. At this point I almost look forward to the low quality of play. It's like, something I can count on.

Sep 8th, 2007, 05:57 AM
Last year wasn't so bad ;)
Well that is, if you like watching Maria serve out of a tree, hit well-timed winners, and watch Justine try to juke, jive, and dice her way to a win...

Shinjiro
Sep 8th, 2007, 09:08 AM
Of course i am. Why wouldn't I ? As someone previously said, everyone already knows who the real winner should be, but she still has to do it. After all, she lost in the finals last year so there is always the possibility of an upset. She could experience some letdown after her win over Venus, or have difficulties to physically recover in time. And obviously, Kuznetsova could play a great match. I'm hoping for a good match today!

Calypso
Sep 8th, 2007, 09:13 AM
Haven't missed one since 1999 so I don't see why I would now!

I totally agree!

Glad I'm not the only one who watches every Slam final:lol: . There is a sense of watching a historical match. A slam final is the most important match a tennis player can play, and that a tennis fan can watch.

I've not missed a Grand slam final since the 1997 Australian Open(Hingis-Pierce). Even when my faves have been dumped out of the tournament ( and I used to take these losses so personally:tape:  ), I'd still be glued to the T.V to watch the finals.

If you only watch the finals in which your faves are playing, I think you're missing a lot. One of the most enjoyable finals I've watched involved two of my least favorite players ever, Steffi Graf and Hingis at 1999 Roland Garros:drool: .

So unless there is an earthquake or power outtage, I'll definitely be watching Henin vs Kuzzie tonight:bounce: .

Not only will I be watching it, I will be there in Arthur Ashe tonight and I am so freakin' excited !

When I got the tickets for my birthday, I said that I could care less who's in the final...

It's just the thrill of seeing a Grand Slam Final in person with 2 women who trained hard & long for so many years, who play tennis better than I could only dream I could, competing against an opponent and themselves as well, in front of 24,000 people, with the goal of winning the last Grand Slam of the year!

Tennis to me is much more than... did my "favorite" win and what was she wearing? It is to me simply the most incredible sport there is. A one on one physical, tactical, and mental competition between two people in front of a crowd.

Tonight's crowd will be 24,000 people in the biggest tennis stadium in the world, people from all over the world, as the NYC area is so culturally diverse, watching 2 people trying to win a match they know 24,000 people and millions more around the world are watching.

Sure tonight's match, more than likely, won't be as awesome as the Henin-Williams Semi, but the thing I like the most about tennis is sometimes, you just never know.

If it is an overwhelmingly one sided match, I will still be on my feet, congratulating the victor with the same feeling & thought had I just witnessed the best tennis match ever... This person just won the 2007 US Open Championship. How freakin' awesome for her!

I love tennis, period !

I'm watching. This is the biggest match in the women's game until the AO final in January.
Does Justine get to 7? Serena had 5 before Justine won a major. If Justine wins, it will be the closet she's been to most majors of this era, just one away.
If Sveta wins, she ties Sharapova with 2 majors and a final.

History either way.

I watch every final no matter who's playing every year. I haven't missed a US Open final on TV since 1997.

Even though I'm not a Henin or Sharapova fan, I watched last year's final and quite enjoyed it. I enjoyed watching Sharapova's willpower.

I suppose I don't hate any players to the extent of willfully missing a great occasion.

I'm also confused about the time of the match. The US Open website said 7pm Eastern, that's clearly not the case. I checked the website and there is a wheelchair match going on right now.

Not only that, but after the final, Pat Cash will play Todd Martin, so that could start at midnight.

I know New York is the city that never sleeps but this is no good for us over here in Europe who are waiting up in the middle of the night to watch it.

Why do they have to cram so much in one night anyway? Why can't they just give the women finalists a proper centre stage without the diversions of a seniors match betwen two retired men?

Exactly what I anticipated, a shitty, one-sided final not worth watching. Oh, I admit to checking the score 3-4 times, but Kuntzy never even made it interesting. I hate Justine Henin with every fiber of my being, but she is a great player and even I cannot deny it. But in order to get high ratings, women's tennis needs a Venus, Serena, or Sharapova in major finals because they are not just great players, they are stars.

I don't care how many titles she wins, Justin Henin will never put asses in the seats they way Williams and Sharapova do. You can bet your bottom dollar this will be one of the lowest rated grand slam womens finals in history. It was truly a pathetic USO for the women.

i always watch even if it's between two players i dont like. No matter how much dislike i have, my heart melts when i see the winner's reaction. barring myskina at the FO 04. such an anti-climax! and kuzzy at the uso 04. PFFFFTTT! the best by far was Venus at Wimbledon 05.

loved justine's reaction today, but sveta looked so disappointed it broke my heart! but the good thing is that it showed that she badly wanted this, so maybe not such a bad thing after all.

CONGRATS Justine.
