Q. She called a trainer. Later we found out it was because of dizziness. She also said afterwards that she was not a hundred percent.
JUSTINE HENIN: I'm surprised (smiling).

Q. Are you okay? What happened there in the second set where you had to have the trainer out?
VENUS WILLIAMS: Uhm, you know, I'm okay. I just was feeling dizzy, a little sick to the stomach. Was just having some energy problems. I'm not really sure what's wrong with me. But, you know, credit to her for playing well.

Q. Were you feeling that way at the beginning of the match? You took a quick bathroom break before the match actually started. Were you already feeling a little sick?
VENUS WILLIAMS: No. I just had to have a bathroom break because I was really trying to stay hydrated throughout the whole tournament. But, yeah, I definitely was having some problems. You know, she played well.

Q. I know you have not played Justine for three and a half years. You said you'd been following her. Is this the best level you've seen her play?
VENUS WILLIAMS: She always plays well, so... Whether it's today or any other day, she always plays a solid game. Definitely credit to her.

What?

All Justine meant was that Venus played so well that she was surprised that she wasn't 100%. You're really stretching.

Sounds gracious to me.

Her response was definitely slightly bitchy. Can't blame her though after the Serena match with the Williams clan running around and diminishing her performance.

I'm actually glad that she wasn't totally diplomatic as she showed before.

All,

Some of you remember me from wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back - and I have never dissed a player unless I thought their comments/attitudes were unfair as it pertains to any player and not just the sisters. I don't hate another human being. I would never give anyone that kind of power over me. But I do dislike some of Justine's ways and totally dislike her coach. And just like some dislike the sisters and their's.

IMO - Justine will begin to lose more and more. Many will start to figure out her game. All one has to do is to run her around and wear her down. She was on time today - but over all and in the not so distant future - many players will start taking it to her and especially the youngins'.

I don't like the way she did Serena in Paris, nor the way she did Lindsey in Canada wasn't it? Nor the way she used gamesmenship against Kimmie in Cali - nor the way she quit against Momo. Venus, Serena, Kim, Lindsey, Monica, Jennifer - nor Martina ever quit in a grand slam final because of an upset stomach. I suppose Carlos told her to quit.

I also think that it is just not heat related breathing problems w/Henin. She was sucking air against Serena. I think that virus that kept her out is suspect to always come back - and it is still there laying barely below the surface. She does have game - but again - others will begin to get and attack it more and more. The way Marion ran her from side to side is the way to attack her. As long as she has the upper hand and attacks first - then she should enjoy her successes - but IMO - she will not win a major next year - and might not win this last one. And because of the way she and her coach operate - she will begin to go down hill. Needless to add that if Venus' serve was on - she would have gone down today. I'd bet big money on it.

And the cheating aspect of the way she and her coach carries on is beyond repulsive. She will eventually begin to lose that edge and winning position she carries now - and it may as well be tomorrow nite. Kuzy beat her once this year, and she does have a big game when she is on.

Again - I am not a hater - and the fact that Justine beat both sisters matters little to me. I am not that obsessed with the fighting wars on this board as it pertains to fandomships. I love to watch tennis period. I am just speaking my mind like I usually do. Justine and her coach left a bad taste in my mouth as it pertains to their individual characters. For all we know - her family will try to show her that he needs to be replaced. Some could argue that because of him - she is what she is - but I'd rather be like Roger - and be all that I can be because of me - and not because of a cheating and selfish coach.

I don't hate Justine - I just dislike some of her ways, and I do dislike her coach - period. But who am i in the sceme of things? i am the little i in all of this. Who cares what i think?

The same could be said as it pertains to who cares what some folks have to say about the sisters and their coaches and parents.

Henin has being a holder of at least 1 slam since 2003, that makes it 5 straight years. No Venus, No Serena, nor any other current player can say that.

I don't understand how people on this board can criticize the Williams girls, but praise Henin. Is she a great player? Absolutely. Even I can't take that away from her. But Henin has proven herself to be completely unsportmanlike and I despise her.

Lots of bitterness here after this royal defeat.
If anyone can send the WS into retirement, it is Henin. She has their number now, and they can't touch her. Two great matches from henin, even though she was playing subpar, and two crashing defeats for the WS, even when they were playing the best they have ever played in their lives.

I blame the reporter that asked the question. He is the one that made sound like Venus was making excuses that she lost because she was not a 100%. So Justine's reaction was to be expected because she probably thinking 'why can't they just admit they lost'. What I did find as a little bit classless was this:

Q. Do you see anything in the way they play you now that's different from in the past?
JUSTINE HENIN: No, I don't think so. They still do the same thing as five years ago.

It sounds to me like she is saying their game has not improved. As opposed to how Venus answered a similar question

Q. I know you have not played Justine for three and a half years. You said you'd been following her. Is this the best level you've seen her play?
VENUS WILLIAMS: She always plays well, so... Whether it's today or any other day, she always plays a solid game. Definitely credit to her.

Thats just my take on it.

Well, if someone asked me if Serena's game for example has improved in the last five years...honestly, I would have said that it has regressed :o And Venus didn't say that Justine's game has improved, either. She basically said that Justine plays always solid. Venus and Justine both gave credit to each other in their interviews.

Definately some slightly touchy remarks from Justine in other parts of her interview, nothing seriously ungracious though, escecially compared to what other players have said in the past IMO.

Hey All,

And I still stand by every word I said in my previous post. I already said that Justine played the match better. Venus could have hung better if she had her serve working for her. Therefore, I am not bitter because Justine won. I am not bitter because she is a great player. I am bitter because I saw her coach cheat on TV in the Serena match - and the slowpoke even came out and admitted he's a cheater. Once a cheater - always a cheater. So - upon losing repect for a player or coach - then I'll always have a lack of respect for said people. That is my right to have my opinion on them - and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

I also can have and stick by the opinion that pretty soon - more and more players will have Justine's number. I feel this way not because Justine beat Venus - but because I know how she plays. She is a great aggressive player - but there are many players that can already step it up against her and there will be a lot more that will be able to do it in the not so distant future. Just like some feel she will continue to beat Venus/Serena/Kuzy/Maria/Jelena/Marion (LOL) consistently - I say - she won't. She is a beatable player and just might be beaten tonight. I don't say this because I am bitter. I say it because - I believe it.

She reached number one by making all for finals last year and winning one. She won several titles last year and this one. she made one slam final this year. No one can take that away from her. She deserves to be number one. Her record proves it. But the best player out there? I don't agree. She has had the better results. So how would those results change? They will change when she starts losing on the regular - which IMO - she will begin to if not this year - then next. This is just my take. Again - I have the right to give my take just like the everyone else has - and especially the ones that say Venus nor Serena will ever beat her again. We would just agree to disagree then.

So hold onto our seats, for we shall see.

Come on now.
You guys know what tennisIlove09 is alluding to.

The transcript put the "smiling" word to convey Henin reaction.
This this implies skepticism, incredulity.
So dno not pretend you do not know how to read the interview.

meaning, to be gracious, she has to put a face like she believes all the bs coming from the Williams family, in other words, look like a moron.

she is not the only one showing skepticism, in fact, the whole tennis world (except some in denial fans) does not believe that bs, period.
