You can forget about the Williams Sisters showing up at the YEC. I doubt either will show up and I can't blame them. I also have a strong feeling Serena will not play any more WTA events until next year. I personally always believed the year really ends after the US OPEN. The year is over. Justine Henin is the undisputed no.1 player for this year. Justine beat both sisters in straight sets at a grand slam not even Hingis could do that. And as for Kuznetsova the only prayer she has is that Justine is nervous and that's it. I think Justine is going to whack Svetlana real easy I see the final as a blow out. The only way Svetlana has a chance is if she plays perfect tennis and Justine is somehow nervous. I would be stunned if Svetlana even won a set off Justine much less win the match. Good job Justine for working hard.

And as for Serena I am not going to take the road of the media she had an injury in her thumb that's why she was unable to play summer events. I hope Serena can get healthy, get into better shape and have a strong 2008. I hope this loss motivates both sisters. Its nice to see the Williams Sisters have competition. Its been said for years now but it isn't really Sharapova or anyone else its Justine Henin. When the Williams Sisters play their best Justine Henin is the only one that can stop them. The WTA is interesting again I think. Sharapova may comeback in 2008? Who knows? But I see the Williams Sisters taking the fall off to recharge for 2008. Venus and Serena both won slams this year they should not feel bad they just lost to the better player on a particular day and her name is Justine Henin.

The William sisters should not feel bad. I mean they BOTH won slams this year and Serena won Tier 1 Miami. That's pretty good results to me.

yep, and Lindsay will be back!

i'd personal;ly like to see Venus play a couple of tournaments before the year finishes, she deserves a top 5 finish and should go for it. i wonder which sister will finish the year as the #1 american?:bounce:

I don't see why Venus should bother to play some more events this year? Venus has had a lot of injuries she needs a break. I expect her to pull out of her fall events just like Serena. I am pretty certain Serena will not play any events until 2008. As for the YEC the Williams Sisters never cared about that they care about the slams. And in 2007 the Sisters managed to win 2 out of the 4 slams. They had a solid year. They should feel good about themselves and their games that they are still a part of the top.

Why? What impotance does the YEC have at all? At the end of a career nobody cares about how many YEC you won its ALL about the grand slams. And I expect Serena and Venus to skip the YEC like they usually do. Serena I doubt will play anything until January 2008 and Venus will do the same.

I would like to see them play some more in the fall to get their rankings up. I'm tired of seeing them in the same half of draws.

I think it is in their best interest to play some event so they can improve their rankings and not have to worry about playing the Serbs and Justine so early in the tournament.

... In essence, i hope Venus AND Serena can use this tournament, to maintain or improve their performnce levels. Serena has much more work to do than Venus, Venus just has to stay focused, and healthy.

But i can see them coming out guns balzing in 2008 - contesting all the slams next year. Justine is the best player for now, but i don't expect this tournament to some how be the start of advantage Justine. I don't see either Venus or Serena allowing that to happen.

The YEC is important just for being the YEC, and also has lots of ranking points that help you get and stay at number #1, which is definetly an achivement that people care about at the end of a career ;) (number of weeks at #1)

I predict that next year, being an even numbered year, both will be injured by February. You won't see Venus until Wimbledon and then she'll be injured for the US Open. Serena will play the French but be injured for Wimbledon and most of the hardcourt series, returning at the US Open. Neither will play at all post-US Open and neither will win a slam.

Justine? That makes sense.

But the Serbs?

If both qualify both will play.. be stupid to give up the chance to build up confidence and match play before Aus... esp if Serena is hoping to defend her title..

Only an as.hole Venus fan would fail to see how important the YEC is. Is the only event where you only play top players in all matches. Grand slams don´t even have that.

Oh they'll play more this year. The Tournaments after The US Open are very meaningful. You'll definately see venus out there. You can tell she has fallen in love with tennis again.
