View Full Version : The USTA Organizers made a HUGE boo-boo this time at the USO 2007...

If they had not postponed / rescheduled the Venus-Jelena match a day after Justine-Serena, Venus could have won the match (in straights or a marathon), get another day's extra rest, would be much fresher against Justine and defeat her, be in the final....and win the USO.

Instead, they decide to go for ratings... and lost it all. Bet they forgot the H2H record between Venus and Jelena (especially the last 3 matches before this).

Yeah, I know that Venus and Jelena consented to it... but still... :tape:

Especially after Venus's tough draw. I know Justine had an injured Serena as well but Venus had such a tough draw.

Good luck to Kusnestova. She might just win this!

Well no doubt Vee would have been a lot fresher for today's clash but as someone said it is her own fault for consenting to it in the first place

I'm proud of Venus. She tried but she came up short. NO shame in that! Justine held her nerves and benefited from Vee's errors. Tomorrow is another day.

Dude, come on... do I have to slam all other players in here just to show my patriotism for Juju?

No. I think what pushed the match into Henin' favour was the pressure put on Venus to "defend williams".
Yeah, really. Wasn't that an advantage yesterday???

I mean , you should have more faith in juju.
Give her support, trust her ability.
Especially when she's in top fom, I can't see why you can't trust her more.
That's what a fan is for,isn't it ?

I disagree that Venus HAD a say. I honestly believe the USTA organizers can really do whatever the hell they want and they did. It wasn't a smart move on Venus/Jelena's part. Venus was most likely a bit winded in the second set she fought hard against Justine but it wasn't enough. At least Venus won a slam this year she can't feel too badly about that.

umm USTA didn't make any boo boo - the players in that match were both ASKED and both AGREED to having their match moved... if they thought being tired was going to be a problem, then they wouldn't have agreed would they?

Personally I think they should extend the Slams to four weeks so that the poor womens have three to four days to recover from each of their grueling best-of-3 matches.

If the USTA didn't ask them in the first place, would they have agreed?

What's that got to do with anything? They were asked. The point is, they didn't have to agree or disagree. It was their choice - they both agreed. Whether or not the USTA should have asked is a whole new issue (I personally don't think they should have asked) - but it still doesn't mean that Venus/Jelena didn't know what they were getting themselves into. They are PROFESSIONAL players, and in normal tourneys you don't have a days rest in between matches after 1st r anyway...so I really don't think this is such a big issue that you are trying to make out it is.

And they are going to pay for it in ratings too. Expect college football (on cable) and NASCAR (on broadcast TV) to crush the women's final tomorow night.
