Venus Williams played a marathon match against Jelena, had only one day's rest... and still manage to win MORE GAMES against Justine than Serena, as well as making Justine work her socks off in the SF. :tape:

This to me shows the gap... HUGE GAP... between the Williams Sisters. Serena better watch this match, realise how far has she fallen behind her sister, and then get herself back to the form and shape which has made everyone in the tour fear her.

If she doesn't... :help:

I think Serena actually has the thumb injury that still deters her from playing her best tennis.
And her movement isn't as good as Venus I think(which is related to the body fitness which I don't want to comment about it).

Venus has always been fitter and had more endurance than Serena. It is one of the reasons why Serena doesn't play back to back tournies. She uses so much energy to win, and she's ALWAYS tired at the end of tournies (despite her proclamations otherwise). Venus has always been the fitter one. Yes she can suck win after pts, but she usually can last for as long as it takes. (Vee's matches are usually longer as well).

I don't think much has changed b/w them. Only now Serena is lacking some confidence and a bit more fitness. But then she's hardly had a player like Ju challenge her pt for pt like this. That puts a whole new spin to her mentality and of course, the outcome.

Serena is not at her Best, and not at the level of Venus or Justine. But i hope she and Venus take the losses and work hard, an come back strong. THIS is what the WTA needs, these big names, the cream of the crop battling it out on the court. Venus lost the battle, but the WTA won something by giving the world this entertaining match!

Venus might have made a mistake by wanting to wait a day and play Jankovic at night.
Justine had more time to rest and prepare for this SF.

These comparison threads are beyond ignorant. Everyone knows Serena has dealt with injuries after Wimbledon and hasn't been able to train like Venus. She managed to reach the qtrs and didn't perform well against Henin but was that unexpected? Nobody thought she would be able to win the qtrs with the way she was playing. On the other hand Venus had momentum going into the Open, many expected her to win the title.

Venus had 2 days to rest. In every other tournament including Wimby (due to rain delay), you are lucky to get such a big time off.

Justine beat Serena at Wimbledon, then Marion beat Justine, does that mean there's a 'HUGE GAP' between Serena and Marion? :o Venus won 3 more games, big deal, Serena had a point to win a set off Justine, no player has come that close against her this US Open...

Venus and Serena are two different people need to realize that. The issue I have with Serena is I still feel she can get into better shape. I really DO believe Venus is giving 110% effort. Justine just played better today no excuses. But Venus gave it everything she had it just wasn't enough. The first set tiebreaker was the key. I think it was 1-1 and Venus played a really poor shot and that was it. I knew that once Justine won the first set the match was over. Serena was slow in the quaterfinal match against Justine she just wasn't tracking down balls as fast as she usually does. The Williams Sisters have competition and its Justine Henin and really ONLY Justine Henin. But the Williams Sisters WON grand slams this year they should be proud of themselves they came back and won slams both of them. They grabbed 2 out of the 4 majors.

When I saw the Jankovic match I wasn't impressed I thought Venus should of won that one in straight sets. When Venus plays her best like she did at Wimbledon she just whacks the top players off in straight sets. For Venus confidence it was important for her to beat Jankovic though since she lost to Jankovic three times in a row and stopped the losing streak. However, I will say it again, Venus needs to be more conscious of holding serve. Venus has not won an outdoor hard court event in FIVE YEARS. Justine Henin had pressure on her too people said she couldn't do it but she whacked both Williams Sisters in straight sets.

Venus plays a different game than her sister. Unlike Serena, Venus is not afraid of the net. Venus has a wide reach so she's not easy to pass at the net. And Venus isn't scared when her opponent charges the net either. Quite often Serena makes an error when she sees her opponent at the net. Venus OTOH is quite good at hitting passing shots.
