Venus was at her best in the first set, but it wasn't good enough to beat the diminuitive Belgian...

No more pointless Peak vs. Peak on these two...the first set answers the question!

I disagree. No questions have been answered. I hold my opinion and I am sure everyone else does too.

You could say Venus wasnt the Venus from previous rounds but still both had medical time outs in the match and this was Venus' toughest opponent yet so I think right now Justine is the true no.1 in the world as her ranking confirms. I think she deserves all the best after all she's been through in her life and hopefully she'll win the final!!!!!! My deepest respect for Justine (and Venus as well)

It's rare now to see them play at their peak.

Venus peak was a while ago.

are u kidding...anyone who watched could clearly see venus was that step slow to the ball...that jankovic match clearly took alot out of her..and it was still 7-6 6-4...if venus was not tired or dizzy...she could have easily won by the way justine played today..not her best either..she gets nervous way to easily...Peak Venus will still beat Peak Henin...and u can not prove that today becuz neither venus NOR JUSTINE played at peak today

without question both players were at their very best in the first set, besides maybe the first where Venus was broken...

Venus wasn't at her best in the second i will conceed, but the quality of the first set showed both of them playing at the top of their level!

like I said, question answered...Peak Henin edges Peak Venus, in a set which perfectly outlines this fact!

No it doesn't! Venus didn't serve particularly well throughout the match....Like I said a peak venus (say around 2000/1) will clearly beat henin! Venus is a better player than henin but henin is just playing better at the moment

Justine was not at her peak today, serving at 47% and all those UFE's. Venus was not at her peak either. Neither was at their peak. In fact they were pretty much at the same level throughout the entire match.

But who cares now that Juju won :rocker:

 Um Henin did beat peak Venus in March, 2001, which is IN THE MIDDLE OF the two year period that Venus won 4 slams

what match were u watching. venus was awful in the first set. this is not peak venus. peak venus could get a 1st serve in and always get a big serve on crucial points. she also made the most of her opportunities. venus these days needs about 5bps per game to break. she had to be about 4/60000 in her match against sharapova. im not saying peak justine wouldnt beat peak venus but this was not peak venus. maybe you should watch some tapes from 2000-2003. peak venus could go through strings of points especially when down without barely missing a shot no matter what the surface. im still amazed with what she did to clijsters in the wimbledon 03 sf or the us 2000 final against hingis.

nonsense! this whole thread. One match is NOT ENOUGH to prove Justine is better at her peak... pleaassse

all this peaknonsens.

they're both great and today Justine won, is it so difficult to state the facts without getting too wild about sth?

I'm sorry, I'm just really unhappy right now!

Well no because then they wouldn't lose, its pretty simple to understand :weirdo:

Venus was not at her peak today, i mean she hit more UE's than Winners. People obviously havn't been following tennis pre 2004.

she did on clay and then proceeded to lose 7 in a row but thats all irrelevant considering teh question will never be answered venus will never reach her peak again although she doesnt need to to win wimbledon.

ummm. no... Venus did not serve at her peak... Justine got the early lead in a game were Venus hit no first serves..... she held the lead when Venus' return game was a mess....

Venus got back into it by picking up her game and playing well... then almost took the set from henin before the tiebreak because Henin had some random crazy suspicious long forehand routine errors....

I dont even want to talk about that mess of a second set......
The wind also played a factor lowering each players games.... that said the way they played today was much better than anyone else on tour save maybe jelena.....

This was not peak Venus Williams. Venus was just a tad bit slow today (she looked tired from point one if you ask me), and Justine took advantage and played better when it really counted. Both fought very hard and at the end of the day the better player won. That settles this match, not your weird theory of Peak Venus vs. Peak Justine. We've seen peak Venus Williams beat Justine time and time again. We even saw her get beat when she wasn't at her best. Today, Justine was the better player. Period. Still very proud of Venus though. She looks to be getting back on top of her game!

how long have u been watching tennis. justine was at about 70& of her best in the first set and venus was at about 60%. her serving was awful and her returning as well for the most part. they can both do better. i was quite underwhelmed by this match just as i was with the venus/jankovic match

Does a peak Venus wins so few points on return games (e.g the first set)? Don't think so.

No need to be so haughty with us Williams's fans when it's no need to.

And stop overtrolling for the love of God, just go out foreverjust a while, since you post 128575 times a day. I bet you didn't noticed it's not winter anymore, you "lifeless" idiot :weirdo:

Peak vs. Peak? Neither player was at their peak. I've seen Justine play better and I've seen Venus play better. Get over it! Venus lost. Justine won. Let's just congratulate Justine on getting into the final and Venus being back in the Top 10!!

I agree though, that she's near her best at the first set and around the middle of second set until suddenly she underperformed again with low 1st serve %.

This is about the best I've ever seen Venus play. Her quality of play, with so many good shots in the first set after that wobble earlier, was very good. Also after winning Wimby this year, nobody can say she is playing badly, esp at the USO surface.
But Justine just played better. Justine didn't play as well as I have seen her sometimes, but it was just enough to beat Venus. She got the job done.
Venus doesn't look good to many of her fans, because Justine gets all her good shots back. Justine just makes Venus look bad.
