View Full Version : Venus' lack of fitness contributed to her loss.

She was just tired in the second set. She couldn't get her feet up for the first serve.

You can't beat Henin without being in top shape.

Please don't start this ... I'm embarrassed to be a fellow fan with some of you Williams' supporters. All credit to Henin. Venus will make no excuses. She fought hard - just couldn't find her serve.

umm, yea right. Vee is in great shape. Henin just played better today. VEE WAS DIZZY in the 2nd, so that my have contributed to a small drop off in play.

I was wondering when this :bs: would come up.

Justine beat Serena and Venus in straight sets, one after the other.

Justine is better than Serena and Venus. Face it.

:yeah: I agree. I don't think that Venus is the type to make excuses. Venus played a great game.

I can't imagine that's reason.

Their time over Henin is just over. They've always had too many errors and that's just not going to cut it anymore.

For me now the men's game is where it's at.

I don´t agree. She beat Jelena Jankovic that is a really fit player in a 3rd set tiebreak...

You sound ridiculous- if not hypocritical.

What's the difference between saying "she wasn't in good enough shape" and "she couldn't find her serve"?

Both are equally important to tennis success no matter who your playing.

I have to agree. I thought it was insulting for someone to even imply that Serena was unfit after her match against Justine.

Venus on the other hand, every long point seemed to effect her the next point.
If she was serving and just finished a long point she would deacclerate on her 1st and second serves, usually leading to a double fault.

It's been that way the last couple of rounds.

Ju was tired too. It was very evident by the end of the 2nd that both women were blowing like crazy. They played really hard; 2 sets in 2 hours, and most of the time they were both running down shots; good defense. 2wards the end of the match they both made more errors b/c they both were tired.

Vee is quite fit; trust me.

yeah.... maybe it was just really humid as they were saying. Justine said she couldnt breath... Venus said she was dizzy..... It was sort of fitness as in that dizzy game helped Justine get back in that 0-40 game....They were both definately breathin hard though..

Justine wasn't tired. She couldn't breath. This is not the first time Justine has had issues breathing.
She had issues breathing in the humid conditions of Miami this year as well.

It's pollution. When you're use to the cleaner air of Europe and then have to deal with the pollution of American metropolitian areas, it can be overwhelming.

Venus on the other hand was tired. She should be use to these condition playing in humid ity with ozone. She had the upper hand in that department.
Regardless Justine never deacclerated on her serves after a long point, she never showed that she was tired form lack of fitness but rather nerves and unhealthy ozone levels.

She continued to go for her serves.

Again this has been going on for Venus for two matches now.

It is not that. Commentator, Rennae Stubbs was lamenting about the poor US Open schedule, whereby Venus had less than 1 day of rest after the previous night match (ended around 10pm) against Jankovic while Justin had a full 2 days rest.

Am not finding excuses for Venus's lost. She may still have lost with equal amount of rest but what irked Rennae and myself was the money-spinning mentality of US Open Scheduler who put big match players, like Venus, in the night match for wider viewership.

This was not Justin's fault but I personally feel the fairness of a sport was unfairly traded over by viewership, which translated to dollar and cent for the organizer and sponsors.

This was a great match nevertheless.

I agree that Venus has no excuse for her poor showing.
However, that does not deny the fact she was not fit enough.

I already posted this during the match that is there were a 3rd set, Venus would not have a chance.
She was already breahing heavily in the first set and was hitting some lazy shots.

Venus is six feet one. She is not built to be run around the court for 2 hours. Her game is to dominate and play short points, always has been. Its not lack of fitness. Its just Venus game and it has strength and weaknesses.

Yep, she seemed tired from the first to the last point of match. But tired or not she could have won the key points. So all credit to that horse teethed dudette Hénin.
