Congrats Justine :worship:
Venus

Pretty intense match.
Justine had 3 SPs at 5*-4, but blew them all.

Justine led 3-0 in the second, but Venus fought back to make it 3-3. Justine served for the match at 5-3, but was broken.

Superb performance once again. Beating Serena and Venus in consecutive matches, in New York of all places, is a terrific achievement.

Venus   She fought so well when 5-3 down in each set, and produced some great shots of her own. She seemed a little tired at the end though, and her serve kinda fell apart. That game at 3-3 was crucial.

Great match!

Poor serving from Venus, and the last point was anti-climatic.

However, you gotta hand it to Justine. Who would have thought that she would, in her two matches against Serena and Venus, hit more winners than both.

Too bad for Venus. She did a great job to get to a tiebreak in the 1st, and then back to 3-3 in the second. Unfortunately some opportunities were lost at 0-40 on Justine's serve at 3-3, which could have made things different.
She looked a bit tired too at the end, so rest up .

Congrats to Justine, she's solid as a rock and will certainly claim her 2nd US Open title tomorrow night.

i wouldnt be that upset if venus could actually get a forehand in court and if i didnt know that this victory will only increase the amount of bs carlos will say out of his mouth.

note to venus: you might not want to hit down the middle for 70% of the match and there is no point in having the biggest serve in the game if u are so susceptible of being broken and cant serve at least 60 percent in such an important match.

i could tell form the 1st game venus would lose. even when she had the momentum she found a way to hand it right back.

I was so anxious when she was 40-0 down at 3-3 in the 2nd set.... then out from nowhere, she went on to win the game! :bounce: That for me was the turning point of the match... if Venus had won it, the match might have gone to a 3rd set.

But good game, Justine. Excellent defensive play most of the time, never giving up even though in trouble... and the lob in the 1st set tiebreak... wow. Just wow. ;)

Venus  You're the one and only one worthy of challenging Justine at this moment. Tired, exhausted, out of steam - whatever you call it, she still comes back strong and make Justine work her socks off. The net point at the 1st set tiebreak... UNF******G BELIVABLE!!! Why do everyone keep playing bad against Justine ? Not only Serena, Venus, but Ivanovic at the FO etc.
I'm starting to think that Justine's pace, variation, defense, and her way of reading her opponents serves so well might be for something.
I mean, against Jankovic, Venus had 4 times more winners than her !! (60 to 17, I think) : against Justine, it just can't be this way.

I am a bit shocked she couldn't at least make this 3 sets.

BUT what is most disappointing is that Sveta beat Anna as well so I imagine she will be routinely taken out by JuJu tomorrow in another boring GS final.
Still, not Justine's fault.

Congrats JuJu! On your way to your 7th major tomorrow.

I didn't start watching until 3-1 40-15 in the second set... JH sure didn't show the mental toughness of a champion in that game. She looked like she thought it was over... and then lost that game... That let down could have easily turned the match... but today VW wasn't playing well enough to create the turn-around.

On a mental toughness up-note... JH not giving up on the 3-3 game down 0-40... showed some mental toughness... What a weird match...

I thought it was interesting to see Vee mixing it up, hitting some heavy top spin to get back from 3-1. That's something Serena's been doing for several years when she needs to but I've not seen it much from Vee...

Certainly two talented players with quality in both their games. Hopefully JH will not have a let down in the final... BTW... I'd say the same if VW would have won... having a let down after you've battled the best SUCKS!

Congratulations to Justine!

It was a very close match but it came down to Justine playing better on the big points (as is the case with most close matches). They both didn't serve well in the second set but Justine was able to get the key break while Venus couldn't get the break at 3-3. I can't help but think about what could have happened but its over now.

I also don't understand why Venus serve broke down completely at the end (considering the occasion). She couldn't get in a first serve. I also don't know why it wasn't clear to her that hitting in the middle won't win her the points against Justine. She had to move Justine and hit in the open court like she did a couple of times.

Better luck next time Venus. Now, rest, come back to the court soon and win those kind of matches next time.

I'm hoping Svetlana could win the title but Justine is just a level above the rest of the players right now.

Terrific first set with some of the best points you will see on the mens or womens game this tournament towards the end of the first set - just a clash of heavyweights.

I didn't think Venus served very well all match and who knows what would have happened if she had - not many aces, not many unreturnables from her today. Some of that was Justine picking it but some of it was Venus not making it happen.

Justine nearly blew it but was just a little better in the end in that first set, and played a better tiebreak, for sure.

The quality dropped in the second set because I think both players threw so much at the first set, and it was a bit flat. Still, Venus fought back to 3-3 from 0-3 and those three missed break points in a row, 2 of them gifts from Venus, definitely cost her hugely. By now Justine wasn't serving well either and if Venus had been able to step it up she could have swung things in her favor. She didn't get it done, and Justine stabilised enough to fend Venus off. Too loose from Venus from this point on, as Henin broke. Venus managed to take it back but Justine again took advantage of poor shots from Venus to break and win.

All in all a fantastic contest - and Justine is undisputed world #1 - there isn't a player who matters who she has not defeated in the last 12 months.

35 erros from venus awfull

35 in a 2 hour match is not awful at all. Williams' tennis is to get more errors and also more winners. Both Venus and Serena get fewer winners than Justine and that means Justine doesn't rely on their errors to get the win. She earns it.

It's not that bad both Williamses lost to Henin. I think They will be SO angry right now, they NEVER want to let this happen again and I think they will work as hard as they can to beat Henin again!

Henin was too good today.

Thanx4nothin
Sep 7th, 2007, 11:10 PM
Well the quality from Henin in the first set was almost reminiscent of serena in the AO final up until about 5-3 where Vee came at her. Had Venus taken her chances she would have won the match by the same scoreline as Henin, but that's why Henin is no.1 she is taking the biggest points. Vee looked knackered in the end and i think she called the trainer for some type of energy sachet, JJ wore Vee out, a bit of bad organisation there methinks, but Henin was smoking, the best tennis I have ever seen from her without a doubt. Shame Venus didn't have enough energy or balls in court to get the break and then get the serves in and take the second set. All she did was lose energy and that first serve amd after that, Henin was too solid. Go win the whole damn thing now Justine.

Pretty intense match.
Justine had 3 SPs at 5*-4, but blew them all.

Justine led 3-0 in the second, but Venus fought back to make it 3-3. Justine served for the match at 5-3, but was broken.

I agree, and the tennis that Justine played all the way up to those 5-4 set points in the first was the best I've ever seen her play. She deserved to win, and deserves congratulations for putting in all the hard work, and I hope she wins the final too.

Sep 7th, 2007, 11:14 PM
Hey All,

Congratulations to Justine. Everyone of us knows she has game. But let's be real here. Venus' serve was off. At Wimby - she was able to employ a great first and second serve. Her second serve was popping. Many of us said beforehand that her serve needed to be on against a quality player like Justine. Justine's serve was all the way on in the first set. She had it clicking and Venus didn't. That really set the tempo for the match. When Venus came back to break to even it at 5 apiece, I felt she had turned a corner - and she did until the tiebreak. In the tiebreak - her serve let her down again. It really is that simple. Plus - she was guiding the ball thru-out most of the first. And then she started hitting it long because of the guiding - and then she started hitting it long because of Henin's masterful serving. Justine was tuned into that first set on her serve until she was serving for it.

Again - Justine was playing her normal aggressive game, but IMO if Venus had been on her serve and game like she was at Wimby - then she would have won in straights. After all, her record is 7-2 against Justine. I know - I know - Justine is a different player now - but please. Venus wasn't suppose to overpower all of her foes the last four rounds at Wimby - but she did it. She knows how to play and execute against Justine - she just wasn't able to do it - so she deserved to lose. She didn't have that controlled aggression going for herself. Justine on the other hand - was willing herself to win no matter what - and she won that battle.

I mean - last year - Maria beat Justine in straights - and Venus just beat Maria at Wimby - so it really is about who executes their gameplan better on the day. Justine was better today - but that doesn't mean she'll be the next time they play. Could be. But - Venus is going to try to pay her back. That is what tennis is about. Match-ups. It is just a game. They are not curing cancer and hunger out there.

Surely - Venus will move on to her business - boyfriend and other ventures and think about their next match-up when it comes. She knows, she didn't deserve to win. She also knows that she'll have to try to get Justine's number - once again - and she can do it. Let's be sure to discuss this rivalry again when their career match-ups are all the way over.

"YOU DONE GOOD - VENUS" "NOW - LOVE THE LIFE YOU LIVE"

pretty nice match. Happy for the Williamses that they're having solid years and that Venus is playing top-flight tennis again. really stoked for Justine and the year she's been having. Kuznetsova, regardless of record, will still be dangerous. This might be the first Slam final Sveta could *really* feel ready for.

As for tomorrow's ratings, they will be lower for sure. But it's kind of cowardly and childish to hide behind numbers and use TV ratings as a knock against other players. It's like saying, oh you may have won, bUt aT leAsT i'M pOpULaR!

yeah, talentwise they are the three outstanding players on WTA tour. Others remain a grade lower. BTW the other SF b/n Anna/Sveta was a joke:o
Leave alone Venus/Henin, even, Serena or Jelena or Ivanovic would have beaten both of them.;)

This was the most top heavy draw in the history of US Open:o

i agree the other semi-final was simply unberable to watch. although kuzzy did a good job in the final set. (she made some smart shot in the third set which paid her off.)

As disappointed as I am over Vee's losshttp://i9.tinypic.com/4veabcw.gif -- I am more relieved since she saved me from spending my cash on a hi def television for my room  I prefer sitting at my PC to watch tennis instead of out in my living room . I had made my mind up to go out to get one this evening for the final. This is definitely a blessing in disguise, because I honestly did not need it. Thanks Miss Venus  :hearts:
What a loser @ your TV comment

Nice to get both Williams sister´s spanked with "zillions" of winners in their home country grand slam.

AWESOME JUJU - you have joined a super-elite club by beating them back to back (in their home slam no less!) and have put the doubters to rest. I hope you can show up and win the final, but even if you didn't, I'd still be amazed!

If she wins the final, she would be the ONLY player EVER to have done that.

Juju, so happy you won. But what where you doing, balls through the middle????? Some really amazing, flabargasting, phenomenal shots and points! You gave the Williams family their well deserved lesson. Juju, je t'aime. I will support you forever, Tin-tin. Really unbelievably amazing shots you can produce.

The expected result. Why is it surprising that the number one player in the world and the number one seed beats the number twelve seed?

That "number 12th seeded" just won Wimbledon, and had never lost to Justine in a hard court surface, which happens to be Venus´s second best surface.
Following your logic had Bartoli won Wimbledon, where she had a higher seeded than Venus, then it should have been the "expected result"

Absolutely. The higher seed should beat the lower seed.

But you're being silly because Justine was not only the number one seed, she is also the number one player in the world. Bartoli is not.

Therefore Justine and Bartoli are in two completely different catagories.

Great performance from both players. Justine could've won the match much easier but she choked a lot  :o But it was partly because Venus was fighting so well as usual.

Venus  Continue playing great tennis.

Good luck against Svetlana in the finale, Justine :bounce:

WHAT AN EXCITING MATCH!!!

First of all, congratulations to both ladies for providing a thrilling, fiecely contested battle. Some of the points had me holding my breath, jumping out of my chair and shouting out loudly late in the night:tape:! The first point at 5-5 in the first set is one of the best points I've ever seen:eek: !

Both players showed sensational defense and offense, and both were
clearly determined to leave it all on the court. Justine's passing shots on the FH side were stunning, but Venus will be mad at herself for misjudging a number of passing shots on which she had a play at key moments:mad: .

I loved the contrast of the tall Venus vs the petite, muscular ( ) Justine, the backhand crosscourt duels, the FH xcourt battles, Venus charging the net, Justine's deft half-volley winner:drool: ! This is such an exciting match-up and we tennis fans have been cheated waiting too long to watch these two.

I noticed a REAL sense of respect between the two players, Justine did not quite SCREAM her allez', and there was no excessive show of emotion, just two great champions going toe-to-toe down to the very end.

I hope with this win, the debate about whether Henin deserves to be at the top of the game at the moment will end.

For Venus and Serena, you'll always be my number one faves, and I'm sure you realise the challenge Justine has set for you. Especially Serena,I hope you'll raise your fitness levels and can stay injury-free to play enough to beat Justine again.

 For Venus, I'm so proud of you for having shown the world again just what a tough competitor you are, clawing back from all those set points to push the set to its limit, and fighting back even when clearly running out of steam( stupid US Open scheduling committee:mad: ) and when all seemed really bleak down 0-3 in the 2nd.

You've clearly shown you still have what it takes to compete with the absolute best, who at the moment IS Justine. Shame on those who thought Henin would thrash Venus 6-2,6-2:rolleyes: .

I also hope there can be some respect between both sets of fans, please enjoy the tense Henin/ Venus/ Serena rivalry. Lets keep the insults to a minimum;) .

Finally, Go Justine in the finals! It will be such a waste to beat both sisters and not walk away with the title!

Well said - brilliant match of both players - one of the best matches i saw in the last months.

And now, let`s hope for an interesting and good final, where both players are able to show their best tennis.

And yes Belgium can be proud of Justine!!!:worship:

Think the debate wether Justine deserves to be number one should be forgotten since weeks - she shows it with every match again, that she deserves it to be top-seeded. She IS the best female tennis-player of the world at the moment - no question.:worship: :worship:
