View Full Version : Maria Enters Stuttgart

Doc
Sep 4th, 2007, 12:36 PM
This is the information on her web site.

Maria has never entered Stuttgart (or its predecessor Filderstadt) which is one of the most popular calls on the WTA tour.

Competition will be tough from the start, so it's not an easy return after the USO debacle. Anyway it's a good sign that she has no intension of shutting herself away and moping.

So her current bookings are Stuttgart, Zurich and Linz. No Moscow this year?? I wonder why not

I Think she does'nt want to play 3 weeks in a row (Moscow,Zurich and Linz) and because she has the Zurich and Linz tittles to defend, and only 75 points to defend in Moscow, she prefers to play Stuttgart and rest a week before Zurich.

No, it's because Sharapova doesn't want to play tennis for or in Russia, but wants to distance herself from anything Russian cause she is really an American.

Well wonder if she really enters Stuttgart.
First wanna see before I believe.
It's still my believe that she could best don't play at all this year.
Focus on rebuilding the serve and the confident that comes along with that.
But if she enters I'm gonna root for our Masha :yeah:.

I see we have another troll "new Member" on the board. And one who doesn't sound very portuguese. The "new member" comes straight to the Maria forum to repeat the usual junk about Maria "not being Russian" (which usually comes from Americans)

Any bets this "new member" is a sock-puppet...

Confidence is built on the court. Maria needs to get back winning matches, as soon as possible. Remember when she lost the double bagel to Davenport? Lansdorp and others said she should take a break. She didn't take a break, came back, and nearly won Miami the following week.

Actually, in Russian media they told today pefering to Tarpischev that Maria has made a shoulder check at her doctors and was recomended not to play for 3 weeks :( . So she is likely to change her schedule and may consider taking a WC to Kremlin Cup. They also say that she is planing to come to Moscow the next week for supporting our team in the finals  .
It's all so suprising in fact but the source is quite reliable. Anyway let's wait for some official news on her website.

That's was before she made a check, probably. Anyway I hope that it's not true (about her shoulder) but messengers should neither be beheaded nor hanged (they say so, right?)

I think it's good that Masha will be at FedCup final. Why not? Maybe it will help her in mental way. Welcome to Moscow, Maria
Problems with shoulder still continue... :( Well maybe she'll skip Stuttgart and go to Moscow. Stuttgart begins in 3 weeks... Let's wait and see what she and her team will choose. Actually I'd prefer Kremlin Cup...

Stuttgart is a fovourite with all the players. Maria has never been there, so I suppose she is keen. The old court at filderstadt was very fast. I don't know about the new one.

Well I think it's really positive that she still got asked by Russians captain to play. Of course I'm sad to hear she still needs to recover from her shoulder injury. But I always knew she was still hurting. So I think it's great she's gonna rest up and cheer for the Russian team.

I'm a little worried about this. Maria needs either to play or "make herself available" for Fed Cup, to be eligible for the Olympics. When she'd made herself available, but Tarpi, didn't select her, that covered it.

But what now, when she's been offered a place and had to turn it down again? Does that still qualify her?

Sep 8th, 2007, 01:24 PM
I think Tarpischev is maybe building a positive relantionship with the Sharapova camp and if he can vouch that she really did want to play so therefore making herself available she should be able to play the Olympics

I think Maria will be fine to eligible to be selected for the Olympics. Thats done and dusted IMO.

I find it strange though that she wasnt able to play the Fed Cup final now....after being invited to play and all the crap that went on last time. At least shes going to be part of the team this time.

In the interview to Russian TV Maria just told that she's going to play Kremlin Cup. They also showed her practice session with Vesnina, Maria was hitting so hard as she's playing real match. For Vesnina it was not an easy day)) I will post the video if it appears on net.

I don't think she'll be able to play Moscow, Stuttgart and Zurich. Unless she drops out early from one of them. But nosw she's in Moscow, it would be a shame to leave without showing up

Mikey B
Sep 13th, 2007, 03:14 PM
if she plays moscow over stuttgart then plays zurich and linz she's played 2 tier 1's instead of 2 tier 2's, which would help her ranking points.. i'd like her to play the kremlin cup over stuttgart....

quasar-x
Sep 14th, 2007, 06:13 PM
with the injury update in her doodle she'll be having hardly a week of practice with overhead hitting and serves before stuttgard..she does sound willing to take the WC for kremlin and the whole lot is some tight schedule..so lets see..

(oct1stuttgart>oct8kremlin>oct15zurich>oct22linz>nov5yec)

I'm so confused about her schedule. She can't possibly be favoring Stuttgart over Kremlin Cup, can she? It makes no sense. Stuttgart's draw will look like a super tier 1 (which would be fun of course if she plays), but Moscow would be easy points and playing in front of the home crowd.

i'm not understanding this schedule either. she's also on the list for linz, which would mean she'd be playing stuttgart, moscow, zurich, linz all in a row. time to drop germany, maria.

Why Germany?? I mean, stuttgart is a very nice event and she has fans in germany too. and she isn´t in the list for moscow.:o

"Maria will begin her indoor season campaign in Stuttgart, Germany on October 1st and will be making her debut at this event. Maria will then take 1 week off and play 2 consecutive weeks in Zurich, Switzerland and Linz, Austria. Maria is the defending champion in both events."

From her webside:

Unfortunately, Maria has had to withdraw from the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Germany which begins on Monday.

Maria had this to say about her withdrawal: "I am very disappointed to be unable to play the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart because my right shoulder has not yet healed. I am doing everything I can to get back into competitive playing shape and hopefully on Tour in the run-up to the Sony Ericsson Championships, but at this point I remain day to day. The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix is such an amazing event, and I'm hopeful to play there next year."
