View Full Version : Sharapova classy in defeat, can't say that about some of her main rivals out there

Didn't complain about the opponent, didn't make it all about herself, gave credit where it was due.. All signs of a maturing individual. I am not a big fan of her game (at least not right now, she had truly impressed me in wimbledon 2004) but I respect how she's improving as a person. Can't say that about other players whose games are impressive but really have to learn a thing or two as human beings.

Perhaps it makes Yonex feel better about Maria losing in that cupcake draw.

I'm pretty sure you could have applauded Maria and her classy exit interview without having to give it more importance by downing other un-named players. It only served to downgrade Maria's interview.

Why did it downgrade Maria's interview? "classy" imo is a relative term, if everyone did what she did, then i wouldn't have called her classy.. guilt much?

Anytime you compare it downgrades or upgrades depending on what you're trying to accomplish. Is Maria's interview good only when compared to another player's? Because that's where you went seeing as how the motivation didn't seem to be about praising Maria only. The guilt is all yours I'm afraid.

My motivation is very clear. Praising her and calling out others who can't seem to be a little more gracious in loss. Nothing to hide here. So yeah your logic/statement is pointless.

Your statements are actually the pointless ones. Maria is classy because players A, B, C aren't. The fact that you have Maria not classy on her own merits is cool, so I guess in a round about way you did have a point

For One, Attack is too strong a word.
Second, It's just a commentary on all players out there who can't handle defeat calmly.
THird, Sharapova is not my girl!

I like all these players.

Q. Your dad left after 5-3 in the third set.
MARIA SHARAPOVA: No, he didn't. He was there.

Like I said before, Maria is classy because she acted in a way players A, B, C don't and which I liked. If everyone acted the way Maria did after her interview, I wouldn't have cared to call her out (nothing special about what she does then.. It wouldn't be called classy, it would be called the norm) Logic 101?

That's probably the only award she'll be getting at this year's USOpen: Classiest in Defeat.

By the way, what was she inferring when she said she wasn't going to blame it on the wind or her opponent? I've heard people blame the conditions for them not being able to play their game, but was she suggesting that her opponent might have done something untoward?

Yeah seriously you really lack some braincells it seems it's not that complicated, maria is considered classy because some other players cough.. williams ...cough. arent as classy in defeat and always come up with excuses and stuff. Good cannot exist without bad, do you get it now?!

Err.. I think the thread starter was refering to Martina Hingis. When she would win or lose she would always make a snide remark. Venus and Serena are classy players in wins and defeats.

I noticed that you have Hingis in your signature. I bet thread starter is laughing.:)

She's had a lot more practice enduring truly humiliating defeats than her 'main rivals' this year. Well, can't call certain players 'rivals' when she can't win five games in a match off them. I guess Radwanska is her new 'main rival', eh?

Nothing against the sisters but I wouldn't go as far as to call them classy in defeat. They can be at times.

A) Of course shes classy about it.... shes getting a lot of practice this year....
B) Sharapova has no rivals... shes has owners though....
C) Maybe she can teach Yuri how to "lose" classy
D) ummmm last i checked the nonames... (Venus) has done much more for the state of tennis/ tennis youths.. etc.... than Sharapova. So she can be classy all she wants to after her many loses to come but id def say shes grown and matured a bit more..... Give sharapova a few years to catch up....

I am going far and above and beyond. Venus and Serena are classy as hell in defeat! They know they have game but that day the better player won. This is one of the reasons why I love V@S so much. There are truley a CLASS ACT! Extremely classy players who are classy in defeat.

I don't have enough time to show many of their interviews or post my tennis videos on here. Maybe one day I will .:wavey:

You simply defeated the purpose of this thread.
To praise Maria. Or maybe you didn't?

I think it light of everything, most are
proud of the way Maria handled herself.

Yet, you praise Maria while intentionally
trying to slight others and bait the posters.

Good on Maria.
Shame on you.

Give me a break, Sharapova indeed makes excuses when she loses often saying she has a shoulder injury. Its good that Sharapova lost because I think she still has a lot to prove and I am glad she lost the no.2 ranking she doesn't deserve it.

The thread title contained a underhanded remark about other players, meant to irritate posters. This was a trolling thread to begin with. Why are you surprised if trolls were to reply?

Unlike you I have life outside tennis :wavey: , and what do you know about depression? Do you know it's a disease, and if it's how you felt when Henin smashed your fave, it means because of a tennis match, that's sad.
Anyway, you're just a copycat of Bijoux, but at least in the end, this poster is kinda funny, you're not.

I could go bring up multiple times my faves and others have beat yours, but that would take a significant amount of time. So, I'll just let you soak in your misery as you realize once again that Maria is out in the third round,
