View Full Version : Changing of the guard?

The younger players have come to play at this slam.
Pascek, Szavay, Radwanska, Azarenka are all in the 4th round.

Does this end the chances of any player over 26 excluding Venus ever winning a slam again?

How will this effect the veterans who are still on the younger side, Jankovic, Kuznetsova, Sharapova, Chakvetadze?

When will they start dominating the slams?

The only players that have won Slams over the age of 26 in recent years have been Venus and Amelie, so I'd hardly say they've 'ended' their chances :p

It is a warning to the likes of Sharapova, Jankovic and Ivanovic that as well as them still being young top players we have even more coming up now!

I think it shoes Sharapova won't be dominating as easily post Justine-Venus-Serena as people thought.

She might not even 'dominate' at all.

Imo the WTA is less open than it was 2/3 years ago. I.e. 2004 :o

The only players I seriously see as slam contenders at the mo are Serena, Venus, Justine, Ivanovic, Sharapova.

I don't include Jankovic or Kuznetsova as I highly doubt either has the mentality to win 7 matches in a row at Grand Slam level. (I should add "again" to qualify my statement about KuzZ).

No, these younger players still have developing games. Their second serves aren't too good, except for maybe Azarenka.

Sure, they can show flashes of brilliance, but none of them have the talent of a Williams, or Henin.

It'll be wondering how long it'll take until there is another *great* player.
But I doubt it'll be any time soon looking at this upcoming generation.

It's nice to see all these young-ins in the fourth round.

These youngsters are sure to challenge the likes of Jankovic, Ivanovic & Sharpie (two young-ins themselves :o), Chakvetadze, etc.

But it remains to be seen how they will do against Serena, Venus & Hénin for instance.

Hopefully this will start shuting up the haters with the comments like "there is no depth on the women's tour"... bla bla bla.
