When marti was playing long balls, she was winnig the points. But as usual, started (why?) hitting mid court puffs, and that was the end of the match.

I hate the way Azarenka plays, makes me puke, but she's the winner, so congrats.

Martina, I'll never get tired of saying this: You're the new Conchita Matinez. Congrats...?

I'm sad for Martina, she had a great draw, she had a possibility to be in the semi finals and wasted this chance. What's wrong with her? Fortunately i couldn't see this match. A bagel in the end:eek: , it must be really painful for the 5 times GS champion she is:sad:.

Hingis played a good first set.....the first couple of games in the 2nd set were really close....nearly all going to deuce....but NONE of them went Hingis' way......once Azarenka got on a roll, HONESTLY, SHE DIDN'T MISS ANYTHING. No unforced errors at all....obviously Hingis needs unforced errors to win....and they never came.....Azarenka was too good....unless Hingis learns to hit winners or get her first serve in ALL THE TIME......I'm sorry....but her glory days are over.

I know what you're saying Dav, but in her heyday she wouldn't let all but the best i.e. Serena, Davenport get in the groove. Nowadays anyone who hits even mildly harder than her can just seem to turn up and win on a whim :o

Unfortunately, Hingis just isn't a good player anymore. Terrible serve and soft balls to the service line don't cut it, she's also not quick enough to try and be this defensive player she's become. Everyone says how clever she is out there but she isnt anymore, when she was throwing in the high balls she was getting short replies, she should have done that more often, come in and put away the volley. Ah well, hope she decides she needs to just go for it, thats the only way she'll get deep into slams.

The real problem is that Martina is missing TOO. Vintage Martina was some winners, but above all NO errors, even against the power hitters like Davenport or the Williams sisters. She could handle the power, and still can. It's just that she now misses. Very unlike Martina. :(

vika had this in 2 sets 1-3 to 6-3 aint good but ive gotta give her credit she has shown mental weakness in previous matches but she really got her head together and played some great tennis.

hingis rushed at the end and i think she could have dug in a bit more but she is low on confidence at the mo IMO she desperately needs a big win and soon otherwise it may be bye bye hingis

Well I guess the shadow Martina was referring to was herself....she played like a "shadow" of her former abilities and it certainly was sad to see:sad: We'll see how far she gets with Dani in the doubles match but I would assume after today's performance she would be embarassed to continue :o looking so inept.....I don't know what the problem is....didn't expect her to advance much farther but certainly expected her to be able to win today....back to the drawing board....for its evaluation time in the old corral!

that's a shame for Hingis, it would have been interesting if she got to the Semis.

Where is her self belief?? Fighting spirit? Why can't Martina be a little more aggressive? Hingis acts like she is a petite player, acting like it is impossible to add some power. Hingis, improve your game!!!! I'm not even a fan and I find this result disappointing....

What the hell happened Martina after the first set. WIth Maria out, it was a great chance to Martina but as has become of her in recent times, she blows yet another opportunity with very poor display.

I was at the Open and saw that match on Amstrong stadium (most of it anyway). Hingis lost her energy and fight after the 1st set. I also got the feeling that something was bothering her physically...her movement just was not the same as in 1st set. She let some balls go right by her with no retrieving effort. Viki played great, though. That girl has got some power in her shots! She stayed calm and focused and just put Hingis away solidly.

she needs to get some arrogance back - shes being to nice now! I think the games still there, but is the mentality?! Shes clearly not fit enough - but then again shes had a bad hip injury so thats going to take time. I hope she sorts her head out soon, especially as Davenport will be coming back and I want to see some classic matches against those 2!

Decent start for Hingis, but at the end? For a tournament it is always not good when such a player loses that early.

What a pathetic performance again ! 6-1, 6-0 after having won the 1st set 6-3 : I've no words for such thing ! I'm very disappointed with Martina Hingis 2007 season. She isn't even the shadow of herself ! Take a big rest, work back on the basic of your REAL tennis then come back on courts. She tarnishes her legacy with such performances.

I don't know why some of you guys think Hingis has a chance  You needs reality check :wavey:
