The top players are all still in the tournament. The ranking system does NOT tell you who the best players are. That's not it's function.

But Sharapova,Daniela,Petrova are out

But they weren't the players who were consistant this year.. Players like Henin, JJ, Ivanovic (Without Toronto), serena (when she plays..) those are the real top players right now..

Daniela and Petrova's losses were really not that surprising. Vakulenko is a hella good player when she isn't injured, and Szavay just made the New Haven final. Maria  don't know what happened, but Agnieszka played fabulous composed tennis :hearts:

Of those three, only Sharapova could even be considered a 'top' player. And in 2007, Venus, Serena, and Ana Ivanovic have all destroyed her. Right now, she's a step down from the top players. Right now. But a 20 year old multi-slam winner can always get her game back together.

But part of that 'getting her game back together' needs to include learning to play in the wind, and how to beat players who are as strong as her.

But Sharapova,Daniela,Petrova are out

Daniela is in slump now, Petrova lost to player on fire, and Sharapova lost to wise player, who knows how to play against her, and doesnt make stupid mistakes...

I dont believe i said she shouldnt be top 20..... But clearly theres a BIG difference between the top players right now. (Venus, Serena, Ivanovic, Jelena at times, and Henin) and the rest of the pack.... So no Sharapova should not be number 2 and is not number 2 anymore...

Yesterday results:

Nicole Vaidisova lost to Shahar Peer
Maria Sharapova lost to Agnieszka Radwanska
Martina Hingis lost to Victoria Azarenka
Nadia Petrova lost to Agnes Szavay
Patty Schnyder lost to Tamira Pazek

I think nicole, maria, martina, patty and nadia are top players (ok nadia and patty I'm not sure but...) and they lost to a new generation of tennis players...
