The difference really in this match was Radwanska's ability to finish off points at net whether it was a swinging volley or true volley.

Sharapova's play at net is awful.
She really needed this reality check.

Hopefully she'll work on the rest of her game before more players catch up to her.

that was a complete choke. Agn played well, and had a good match... but Maria up 2-0 in the third? CHOKE CHOKE CHOKE... I love how Yuri left, that was classic. I would have done the same thing.

Yuri walking out was just not on. It's a disgusting display of disloyalty. Can't remember the last time I saw that.

Radwanska played some great tennis and good use of mental game. Can't say that with one of the point which she ran about around the service line though. Quite off putting.

Well done though!

I only caught the end of that match but I haven't seen Sharapova miss that much and that often since she played Dementieva in LA 2006. THat was a hot mess. That last serve by Radwanska was so short in teh box and just sitting there and Sharapova missed it.

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G job by Aggie Radwanska.

I was surprised Sharapova didn't pull a trainer/bathroom break in the 3rd set. I'm surprised she didn't fight back and win, because it's typical of her. Sharapova put up a respectable effort, but Radwanska was pretty freakin' solid.

This is going to be talked about for a long LONG time.

Wow - Radwanski :bounce: I am sooo pleased for her.

But I was a little bit sorry for Maria in the end - not too much but just a bit. I didn't like Yuri leaving was it a couple of points before the end. Bad for Maria if she saw it. And downright ungracious to Radwanski. Couldn't he have waited and tried to give support to Maria right through to the end?

No. Anyway, she wasn't actually jumping around during the service motion, just right before it. When Maria started to serve Aga backed up, that was it. If that bothered Maria that much, her loss. I don't think it was a big deal to Maria though.

Aga is the next Martina Hingis. She uses her brains!!!

I must say that Aga totally surprised me here, never in a million years thought she could do it even after she won the first. I then Maria so took over the second set and early in the third. That meltdown was similar to the one at the FO against Safina.

First time seeing Aga play, heard about her and she did beat Venus once, as well as Martina, Myskina and now Maria.

This win is the biggest by far, since no one including Maria saw it coming.

WELL DONE AGA!!!! Maria what can I say, I'm sure nothing since the loss must be painful enough.

Sharapova likes to control points. She can't do that from behind the baseline or on the move.

Is it unsportsmanlike to be running around like a little shit while your opponent is serving?
I agree, it's as annoying as Djokovic's endless ball bouncing while he's serving. But gamesmanship has always been part of the game. Sharapova (and her fans) is the last person who should complain about it.

I'm a big sharapova fan so i'm pretty sad and disappointed. Shame on you, yuri - if a coach can't do what you did today, let alone if you are your daughter's coach. What kind of a message is he giving her?? If you win, to lift the cup, i'm there for you; if you loose, to console you, look for someone else?? C'mon!!

I know that things look pretty gray for maria's side now but - to all the fans - we all know how strong she is, right? I´m sure she will be back with a bang!! Cheer up!!

Aga doesn't deserve shit for this win. Maria has unforced her run. Yuri's an ass.

Aga DESERVES this win...She was simply better player than Sharapova..She hasnt powerful serve, but she played very wise...She made less mistakes than Maria and that was the key to win .Good luck Aga in the next round :worship: :worship: :worship:

 Radwanska played fantastic, but i mean when i saw her play Pironkova in Stockholm i knew she had really improved. Her 1st serve is a weapon now, her groundies have alot of bite on them too and she's as tough as nails, thats what was winning her big matches last year and what was mainly responsible for her good Wimbledon runwas that she is mentally a rock.

and i have to say :tape: at all the people who were braging about Sharapova's form after her 1st 2 wins against scrubs with nothing to hurt her with.

It was the worest match I hae ever seen (overreacting Zvonareva-Li match in IW take the title).
But I can honestly say that Maria lost to herself. Aga is very talented but she isn't good enough to beat players like Sharpy, so she did it with her mind. In every second serve of Maria, Aga was standing almost inside the service box and when Maria started to toss the ball Aga got back to the baseline, that made Sharpy really nervous and she served 12 DF's :help: I think most of them because Aga.

Aga deserved this win. She unlike Maria changed her game to mess with her opp.
I've seen Aga play before as well as many others and she normally doesnt like
she did today. She was careful and knew when to Attack. I feel Maria just thought
she could outpower her opp or just play how she normal does. She did that today and
thats why she lost. She didnt change up her game like she should of.

It is always a joy to see smart varied tennis triumph over mindless ball bashing. But when the purveyor of the smart varied tennis is one of your very favorites who you have been rooting for since her junior days it is even better. The only thing I can think of is how Maria felt to see her father gone being down 5-2 in the third. Maria must have known it was over before it actually being over. Aga did everything right. She kept the ball deep and in play, mixed it up, and pressured Maria's serve. When you're as one dimensional as Maria has become, the tactics are obvious. Aga was the one to finally execute.

She attacked when it was necessary and Maria then missed when she attacked back. The shot selection was excellent. Most importantly she imposed herself on one of the most imposing players out there. Just loved the smarts - Maria's serve is dodgy so you stand ridiculously far in, move back a bit and then move twice more before Maria can finally decide where to hit the ball - result key double fault. Brilliant - a young player who can hit the ball hard - and in - and in the right place - with smarts too.

That was a good match. Agni just kept her cool and did not play ball bashing like Maria wanted her to. She changed the pace of her balls and forced Maria to generate her own pace.

But most importantly, she used the entire court to make Maria run. And she exposed Maria's weakness because Maria is slow and can't hit on the run. She's doesn't have a great net game and she EFFECTIVELY rattled her first and second serves.

The girl would just come in like she was gonna attack, then step back a little and make the ball basher double fault.

She did just what the sister's did, she exposed all of Maria's weaknesses.

I kinda felt sorry for Maria because Yuri acted like he left the stands to club her in the head when she got off of the courts.

But I keep saying that Maria is a ball basher and instead of using her easy opponents to try out some new things on the court, she just bashes away at the ball. Then when she meets an opponent with a change up, she doesn't know what to do but continue to bash the ball.

Maria doesn't have a B and C plan to go to.

thanks for the vids. Sharapova was a hot mess in those last few games.
That is a perplexing match. I'm surprised Sharapova got so psyched out by Radwanska stepping in so much cuz when Sharapova began her service motion Aga immediately stepped back to the baseline. And she wasn't blasting return winners. Also, Sharapova is usually so consistent off the ground, weird to see her miss so many casual shots. Maybe when Radwanska stepped into the court she had horror flashbacks of Serena stepping in and blasting winners off her serve.
