Great play by Agnes :D Nadia was missing easy shots in the beginning of the first set :o Too bad that Nadia totally gave up in the end of the match after she had received a warning, she didn't manage to return the last two serves from Szavay.
Good luck in the next round Agi :D

Petrova is a mediocre Brenda. Just live with it and try to move on, guys. It's not the end of the world. It's just a loss. She has had many of these before. If I am not mistaken, about 16 this year alone. We will all survive. :awww:

Her Slam results are not impressive but she's currently the winner of Paris and Stuttgart and finalist of Amelia Island, Los Angeles, Moscow and Linz.
Who "should" be ranked ahead of her (except Venus)? Hantuchova? Schnyder? Dementieva? Vaidisova?

She had a good year last year, which is why her ranking is in the top ten.

But sorry, not this year, no.

She may have made the finals of Amelia Island, but she got creamed in the final by someone she "should" beat.

There have been other players who are ranked behind her who have consistently performed better.

Who? Serena would be the only one I can think of... maybe Marion... she had a reasonably good summer hardcourt season during which she only gained points, so she deserves her spot. Once the fall season comes, she'll probably fall out.

If Nicole hadn't hurt her wrist and gotten ill, she would most certainly be ranked higher than Petrova. She's performed better than her at the 6 biggest tournaments (slams + Miami/IW).

If Petrova hadn't injured herself last spring she would've done great things at Roland Garros. Rankings are not about "what if".
Vaidisova hasn't reached a final since Strasbourg-2006. Petrova reached 6, all at Tier II and above. Bunch of SF + QF may be good for Top-20 players but not for top-tenners.

:spit: I watched her 1st Round loss, and she didn't seem to be hampered by any injury. Petrova is well known for getting "injured" and playing the following week. :o She has "magical" recoveries. Just take a look at her playing activity if you can't take my word for it. :o

I believe a SF @ the AO, QF @ RG, Wimbledon, IW, and Miami is good enough for the top ten.

That means she's been at least the 8th best player at the 5 of the biggest tournaments of the year.

No one said Petrova is talentless and is indeed a top ten player when she has her head screwed on, but I don't think her 2007 results speak of someone who should be in the top ten. She can never bring her best tennis at the biggest tournaments and seems to always fold in a close match with another top player.

It is. When player can back it up with (at least) one respectable TITLE. Top-tenner with no Tier II final under her belt is as "bad" as the one with no GS QF appearance for year and half.

Nice try trying to bring her down with all the fitness-related and gamesy injury breaks Nadia.

I'd have more sympathy for the way Nadia feels entitled to pull out everything but the kitchen sink against the next generation if she'd done something with her thousand and one big win opportunities. Rooting for her in a slam is a no-brainer: you'd have to have no brains -- and a strong heart -- to still do it.

Let's see if TV can see a young player who isn't as obvious as Sharapova but might well prove as talented.
