Venus Williams is looking forward to the hardcourts of North America, even though it is her worse surface.

"Well, I thought I would blog from Cincy since I don't think I'll be able to do anything else here! (Venus Laughs). No, really I love this city and believe it or not it has a pretty decent night life, something I plan to let my fans know about. Hope the draw is kind to me with so many great hard-court players in the tournamet.

Oh yeah, I also wanted to congratulate Tamarine on her Wimbledon title. She played fantastic tennis in order to capture a title on her best surface."

Krajicek Through to the Second Round

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/3171/31531475-e310-4779-8ac2-921fadb730b4.jpg

Michaella Krajicek is onto a good start on hard courts after winning her first round match 6-4,7-5 against Russian Elena Dementieva in Cincinnati.

"It's a pretty solid play from me today.I have some slight changes in my game plan and I'm not feeling comfortable about it.But it did look good against my opponent. She(Dementieva) is also fond of hard courts,so winning her in straight sets really helps me a lot on gaining my confidence."commented Krajicek about the match and now she's held a 2-0 H2H record against her one of her best friends on tour.

"I'll meet Lucie(Safarova) next.I never play her before,so I have nothing much to talk about. But I'll definitely try my best to win any match.Hopefully I'll not go down easily(laugh)."said the Ducth,"Since I'm doing pretty well on tour so far,my aim is now to get a title especially on my favourite surface but there are other players who also like hardcourts,so it'll be a tough task for me to get past any of them."

Washington Wipes Bermond Away
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/mashona.jpg

American Mashona Washington made her big ATC debut this week at the Cincinnati Open by stunning the second-seeded player of the tournament and the world's number two, Frenchwoman, Severine Bremond. Washington's first victory on tour didn't come easily but she dug deep to stake out a win. She won in three sets; 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 in a match that was a little over two hours.

"It feels great! I can't believe how well I played in my first match on tour. She was a tough opponent and she's the second ranked player in the world, so of course I'm floored that I won."

The win for Washington was one of the major upsets that happened today. Upsets include American Venus Williams, the eighth seed of the tournament lossing in straight sets to Lourdes Dominguez Lino; 6-2, 6-2. Fifth seed Anabel Medina Garrigues loosing via walkover to Tamira Paszek.

The bad day for the Frenchwoman continued when American Ashley Harkleroad knocked out fourth-seeded Frenchie, Natalie Dechy; 6-3, 6-4.

"I'm glad that there's still a lot of American's left in the draw. This is our country and it's always great to win a title in your homeland."

Americans Lindsay Davenport and Jennifer Capriati also advanced into the round of 16 with wins over Maria Elena Camerine and Anna Chakvetadze. Venus Williams was the only American not to advance.

Washington used a series of power shots to get through the first set, overpowering Bremond to get a 4-0 lead. The last four games were trade offs on holding service and Washington took the set, 6-2.

The second set was much like the first set with Washington overpowering the Frenchwoman and breaking her service twice to take a 3-0 lead. Washington failed to hold service after Bremond hit some bruttal winners off the sloppy second serve of the American. Severine broke Mashona's service game and gained momentum to take a 5-3 lead in the set.

Bremond had a chance to serve for the set and had set point at 40-30 but failed to convert when Washington hit a forehand winner up the line. Washington got the break of service and held to tie up the set at 5-5. The next two games were a piece of cake for Bremond who dominated her service game, winning 40-0, and allowing Washington to win only one point on her service. Bremond took the second set 7-5.

"After she won the second set, I was a little bit worried. I thought the more the match went on the better she was getting, it definently showed in the second set. I knew I had to make the points end quickly if I wanted to win the match."

Bremond and Washington both held services in the opening of the third set until Washington became agressive at 2-2. She broke Bremond and started to run away with the match when she got to 5-2. Mashona served for the set and match beautifully only loosing one point on service. She won the match off a ball that Bremond hit straight into the net.

"When I saw the ball sail into the net I was dumbstruck. I couldn't believe that I just beat the number two ranked player in the world!"

With this win, Washinton advances into the round of 16 where she'll meet Russian Maria Kirilenko who won via walkover on Maria Sharapova.

"I played well today but tomorrow is a different day. I need to carry what I learned here with me tomorrow. Maria is a tough player and it will be a good match. My only strategy is be better than her, plain and simple."

Michaella Krajicek def. Lucie Safarova 6-4,6-1

Q: Congratulations on your victory.
Misa: Thank you very much.

Q: So how do you feel about the match just now?
Misa: Well,I was pretty aggresive today.I tried to play some serve and volley in order to shorten the points.I know she's a fighter on the court,so I just played everything I could to her.And it worked pretty well as far as I'm concerned. She also didn't play her best and made more and more errors, especially in the second set.

Q: And do you know this is your first consecutive straight sets victory this season?
Misa: Oh,really?!(laugh) I don't realize until you tell me.Well,as I have mentioned before,as long as I win,I don't mind how many hours I play,or how many tiebreaks I encounter,or whatever. But this is definitely interesting.I usually will have marathon matches, coming back from behind and so on but since this is my favourite surface and isn't her(Safarova) best,so there's not much to be surprised about.I hope this is a good sign for me though.

Q: You'll face Mashona Washington next.Any comments about her?
Misa: Hmm...she's a new player, right?I have respect to new players. When they first play, they'll always think that they have nothing to lose,so they'll just go out there and play their game.I heard she made quite a good debut here in Cincinnati, beating Bremond in the first round and Kirilenko just now.So she's definitely very talented and dangerous as far as I'm concerned.I'll try to play my best of course, hopefully to avoid any upset.

Q: Ok.Thanks for sparing your time for the interview.Good luck.
Misa: Your welcome and thanks for the luck and interview too.

Krajicek Battles Past Washington into the Semis

#6 seeded Michaella Krajicek produced another good fight against American Mashona Washington to advance into her fourth career semifinals after defeating her opponent 6-4,3-6,6-4 in the Tier III event.

Krajicek started the match pretty well after winning her first break point to love against Washingtion who seemed to be pretty shaky at the start of the match.Although the debutant broke Krajicek's serve on the sixth game, the Dutchwoman immediately broke her serve back who later won the first match 6-4.

The American showed the form how she beat second seeded Bremond in the first round against Krajicek in the second set.She broke Krajicek's serve twice in a row to set up a 4-0 lead.Although the sixth seed won one break point in the seventh game but that didn't help her much where Washington claimed the second set 6-3 after winning another break point from Krajicek.

Both players were playing pretty even in the decisive set. Both players held their own serve until the ninth game where Washington slipped on the court after trying to save a break point.Consequently,Krajicek won the game and eventually the match after one hour and 48 minutes.

"Washington was playing really well in the match.Even though she was pretty nervous in the beginning of the match but she fought hard throughout the match. It was such a nail-biting match for me to be frank. We were really solid in the third set but She was a little unlucky in the second last game where she slipped. It would have been different if it didn't happen. But anyway, well done to her for reaching thus far on her debut."

"I definitely feel glad after reaching another semifinal in this event but I hope I'll go on further and win the title.I really hope so.Tammy is next.Although we're not playing on grass anymore, she still plays pretty well. She made a mini-comeback against Jennifer just now.Hopefully I am able stop her streak and win my first semifinal in this season!"

Vamos.

Krajicek Cracks Washington

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/washingtonlost.jpg

American Mashona Washington's dream debut came to an abrupt hault today when she was knocked out of the Cincinnati Open Quarterfinals with a tough three set loss to the sixth seed of the tournament, Michaella Krajicek. The match last a little over two hours before Krajicek held her hands up in victory after ending Washington's suprise run with a score of; 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

"It's a very tough loss, but I really didn't expect to make it this far in the tournament. When I saw that I was facing Bremond, whose ranked number two in the world, I thought I was definetely going to loose in round one."

However, this was not the case as the young American was able to string up victories over Severine Bremond and Russian, Maria Kirilenko. All of Mashona's matches were triple setters, she defeated Kirilenko; 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.

"It wears on my body after a little bit, and of course I would love to win in straight sets, but a win is a win and I'll take how I can get it."

In the beginning of the match, Washington seemed very hesitant and her body language definetely showed. She hurled numerous short balls into the net that should have been easy winners. The first set at 6-4 was given to Krajicek without much of a fight from Washington.

During the second set, Washington started swinging wildly and much to the suprise of the audience, Krajicek and even Mashona herself, the balls stayed within the lines to become winners. The erratic winners piled up and she took the second set, 6-3.

"I didn't have anything to loose really. I had made it further than a lot people thought I would've, including myself. I had just lost the first set, so I thought 'What the hell?'. It definetely couldn't hurt me."

After winning a shocking second set, Mashona became the first woman of the tournament to take a set off Michaella. However, Washingtons erratic winners turned into erratic errors when the balls started flying out of the lines. Krajicek used a series of power shots to combat the strokes of Washington and finished her off in the decisive third set, 6-4.

"The third set was really close, the whole match was really close. Michaella is such a strong player and during the beginning and ending of the match, I was in pure awe of her playing ability. It's no wonder why she's ranked in the top 10, she definetely belongs there."

When asked about who she thinks will win, Washington give this predicition.

"Well, I don't know who I think will win. But I hope Michaella wins. I don't know about others, but when I loose to someone, I always want them to go on and win it. It's kind of like a consolation prize, I lost to the best player of the tournament, now I have to go figure out how to beat them next tournament."

With this loss, it's back to the drawing boards for Washington who will be on her way to Toronto to train for the Roger's Cup that will take place after the Cincinnati Finals.

"I played well here, I'm going to continue to play well. This was my first tournament so it was kind of like a warm-up tournament for me. And to get this kind of result is great, but I'd like to show people how I play when I'm all warmed-up."

What a great match, It was a good try from Henin/Molik they only have 1 ace and they know how to use it. Jankovic/Pennetta are strong on this surface, and are definantly to watch out in the hard court season.

Krajicek Into First Final in Cincinnati

Michaella Krajicek chalked up her 27th career win by eliminating Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn 1-6,6-4,6-4 in the semifinal at the Western & Southern Financial Group Women's Open.

"It was some match out there.I played terrible in the first set where it was pretty solid against my previous opponents.I have no idea why I'd play such tennis. However, luckily I played much better in the second and the third set.Tammy was fighting really hard out there definitely.I couldn't give too many free points to her.But eventually a win is a win.I successfully ended her winning streak and I'm into my first final! That's what I'm happy about"said Krajicek who has improved her H2H record to 1-2 against the Thai.

"I'll face Lourdes in the final. She's such a fighter on court I believe. She easily defeated Tamira in the semis.I also lost my first match on the tour to her in Auckland. So I must be prepared for her agressive tennis and I hope I'll be able to hang on with her. She's also into her first final. So it's a 50/50 situation for us.I'll be happy for her if she wins me fair and square.I just don't want to see me making too many errors that costs me the match.Well, good luck Lourdes!"

Cheap Seats With Mashona Washington

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/mashona-1.jpg

The recently elminated Mashona Washington will be giving her two sense on the winners of the Cincinnati Open in singles and in doubles. So let's get started.

Interviewer: It's great to have you Mashona.

Mashona: Great to be here.

Interviewer: Now let's get right into it shall we? Now you've been on record to say that you hope Michaella Krajicek wins the tournament, but who do you think will win? Without any bias.

Mashona: Like I said before, Michaella Krajicek. She's unbelievable on court. When you think you have her down she finds a way to battle back. She has the heart of champion, she just needs to win that first title.

Interviewer: What about Lourdes Dominguez Lino?

Mashona: Lourdes has been a very tough player throughout the tournament. She hits the ball well, is in good shape, and seems to have an abudance of energy. I've watched her matches and she's been dominate to say the least. However, I feel that Michaella has the slight edge.

Interviewer: So Michaella in?

Mashona: Hmm... Michaella in three, quite possibly two.

Interviewer: What about doubles? We have Krajicek/Peer vs. Tanasugarn/Dominguez Lino.

Mashona: Well it's pretty funny that they're both in the singles finals as they are in the doubles finals. Both teams are strong but I'm going to pick Krajicek/Peer. They seem really hot at the time and I don't think Tammy and Lourdes can cool them off, at least not in this tournament with the way Michaella has been playing.

Interviewer: Well thanks for your two sense Mashona.

Mashona: Anytime.

Interviewer: See you in Toronto.

Mashona: Later gator.

Dream Come True for Krajicek

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/3171/21237456993krajicek.jpg

For once in her career,Michaella Krajicek started to have self-belief in one of her biggest moment of her career. And with that, she eventually defeated Lourdes Dominguez Lino in straight sets 6-4,7-6(5) in the final of the Cincinnati Tier III event.

"Thank goodness. It's all over!"said Krajicek in the prize giving ceremony after her match."I really didn't think of this at the start of the season, you know, but as time goes by and I think I'm playing good tennis,I have thought to get a trophy.Indeed, hard work pays off.Now it's a really great to get hold onto one of the trophies for this year(laugh)."continued Krajicek in her final speech.

Even after that,in the post match conference, the Dutchwoman still seemed to be in disbelief."Oh,like I mentioned just now,I'm really really thrilled to get the title. Now I have accomplished the target that I've set just not too long ago.It wouldn't have come at the right time."

"I was trying to be aggresive too when I started the match.I just hope I won't be playing bad as I know my opponent wouldn't let me have a chance to be in the lead. However, perhaps this is our first final,so definitely we're pretty nervous about it.We almost traded all our service games in the first set I believe. But I kinda keep myself focused and won the lucky break point."replied the sixth seed of the tournament.

"Then in the second set,I stepped up my game a little and I was having a 4-1 lead before Lourdes also made her move and levelled the match.I was more worried than nervous at the time she was up 5-4.I just hope I won't be silly enough to let this golden chance to slip away.Luckily it went to a tiebreak."said the winner who has now improved her career tiebreak record to 6-2.She was just in the lead after breaking her opponent's serve once in the tiebreak.

"I really want to congratulate Lourdes for making thus far in the tournament. And with this,I believe she'll also have a good career ahead of her.And I want to thank my coach,my family for supporting me constantly and always encourage me to play my best. For those fans or anyone out there who supported me,thank you for having belief in me.I hope I've not disappointed you all.And finally I hope this is a good sign for me in the future.I hope you all won't be hearing Michaella Krajicek for the first and last time."said Krajicek in the final acceptance speech.

After winning the event,Krajicek is now #5 on the tour, her career ranking high to date. She's now having a career win-loss record of 28-12 and also has equalled her H2H record against Dominguez Lino to 1-1.

Now,all the players will be heading off to the next tournament-The Rogers Cup,a tier I event in Toronto,Canada.
