Sorry I'm new here. I'm not familier with some of the nickanames you people have for some players. For example, who the hell is Alona? Who the heck is Makili? I know I'm ignorant. I would appreciate your help.

Alona isn't a nickname  It's her real name --> Alona Bondarenko
I don't know makili, maybe you mean Makiri. That's Maria Kirilenko

OK.. my point is some people here call players too easy as if they were your friends. Keep some distance please.

Maria Sharapova = Masha
Daniela Hantuchova = Danka or Dani
Justine Henin = Juju
Amelie Mauresmo = Momo

I'm sure some of the posters here would have more to share.

(I hate the nickname "Makiri.")

So should I call Ai Sugiyama Asugi?

What's wrong with that. It are just nicknames
And if you're a huge fan of a tennisplayer. Like i'm a huge fan of Michaella Krajicek. I don't see what the problem is of having a nickname for her. MISA
Like the players care about that!! The most don't even know.

You're from Japan right? I understand that in your culture, it's impolite to address people by their first or nickname when you do not have a close relationship with him. (Am I right? Please feel free to correct if not.)

However in the western culture it's fine to address people in that way. Plus, it's also more convenient to use in message boards.

Yeah, I don't think the players care. I know Misa doesn't mind if her fans call her Misa. She calls herslef that so  (Although I'm pretty sure Kirilenko doesn't c all her self "Makiri"). Alot of the "nicknames" are just dimiuitive versions in their own language of their names... Maria- Masha, Michaella-Misa (well ok it's Czech, but it's her background). And Lucie Safarova gets Lucka quite alot too.

Janky. ;)
But most plyers have nicknames on here...
Agi - Agnes Szavay
Aga - Agnieszka Radwanska
Ula - Urszula Radwanska
Tati - Tatiana Golovin.

Most people aren't gonna write out the whole name on a message board.

I think some of the nicknames are quite confusing. I know I must get used to.. but it's hard as there are so many players. OK in my culture, it's not common to call ppl you don't know personally by their first names much less by their nicknames. I learned some good lesson here. I live in a small country.

Basing from the thread starter's flag, he's from Japan. Their culture pays a lot of importance to respect and politeness. So I don't think it's right calling voting for him in the "TWAT."

Now why would any one make his/her life tougher by calling Ai as Asugi :spit:

what can be nickname of Ai? A or I, the latter looks better. I have seen your comments regarding Asia and then your these threads, Japanese are smart people and it seems you are either trolling or you are a :baby:

Nicole "Gatorade bottle" Vaidisova?
Elena "serveable" Dementieva?

I hope this poster doesn't start asking about ones like Peppermint Puppet, Strange Suissie, Cuckoo Clock, Career Conman, Frankfurt Felon, etc. :tape:

I try 2B somewhat creative, though. Like:

Flavia Of The Month
Kirilenkova
Sister Christian (Julia V.)
Sister Safina
Belgrade Babe
The Little Belgian Who Could
Martina I and Martina II
Rainer I and Rainer II
Baby Blue Eyes   (Lina)
Deep Blue Eyes   (Manu)
The Contessa
Petr the Terrible :scared:
Mrs. Leach from Newport Beach

And someone who's privacy I'll protect once gave me one for Rafi in a PM, though I haven't used it in posts:

Rafael Fuck de Minor

Well, you'll know we're referring to Serena when people keep saying, "Best player to ever pick up a tennis racket."

It's a pretty long nickname, but I'm told she answers to it.

Something from Davis Cup Russia-Aust in Aust a few years ago, and Kafelnikov said the grass courts look like a potato field or something similar. So I started to call Kafelnikov "potato head" and TBE did similar with Hewitt.

Nicknames given to people you do not know ??
Idiotic, immature, juvenile, borderline stalking.

Ree ? JuJu ?? are you people kidding me ?
JUJU ? She would get a restraining order on your ass if you called her that to her face.
