Martina :worship: more than doubles the amount of searches for any other celebrity. Or any topic.

http://buzz.yahoo.com/overall/

More than 3 times the searches for the NFL or the US Open

Of course...

She is every boy's ideal girlfriend. Cute, witty and successful.

On the other hand they like Sharapova as the cold-hearted vampire. They will jerk off to her cameltoe pics but would never want to date her (too scary).

How did she do that? What did she do? I remember Golovin was ranked high thanks to her red knickers but I don't think Martina has done anything interesting lately to reach no.1

What did she do?

Apart from the fact she was a child prodigy, she's one of the game's living (and playing) legends, and came back after a three year break at the start of last year.

On top of this, she has had much off-court drama, whether it be boyfriend related, court proceedings, comments to the media etc etc.

But yes, given recent performances, this is surprising. But i'm pleased... she's certainly not a tennis player (or personality) who will be forgotten easily, even after she hangs up her racquet for good.

She's no.1 OVERALL, it's not like any other tennis player (male or female) is ranked inside Top 20. She has improved in this ranking by 171% since yesterday, she had to do sth special.

She is very popular still. Especially in Asia me thinks. She is still one of the most sought after player for tournaments. She's been in Artur Ashe for the first 2 rounds! And many would agree that the her overall package (play style & technique, drama in and out of court) is a media frenzy that will only make the sport more popular. Though the recent surge I think this is due to her recent break up and articles from CNNSI etc.

Wow

I'm surprised she's the only tennis player there and the number one.

Sveta has improved 172% from yesterday but she still didn't make it on the sports top 20

Both times I saw Martina and Daniela play doubles together so far the court was packed standing room only. When they announced the names of the players Martina by far got the most cheers. The stands were buzzing with talk of Martina, people who know her and people who kinda remember her etc etc.

Martina will always be loved by the fans because she is interesting and different to watch play. She pumped Daniela up the whole match and kept a smile on her face the whole time, talking to herself, hitting herself with the racket.
