View Full Version : Bartoli Comments about Serena Match

I'm ready to play this match because when I saw the draw I said this is one I wanted to play,” said Bartoli, who lost to Serena the only time they played back in 2003. “I committed myself to be there, and now I am, and I'm going to show everyone how hard I can be to beat. It's Serena. It's New York. It might be in Ashe Stadium and primetime, and it's the one you are practicing for. I've had three really good matches, and I'm ready to face her. It's going to be different this time. I'm playing really well now, and I can definitely give her a hard time.”

I don't believe that Bartoli said that, but can anyone confirm this?

Does she mean different than their 2003 Miami match?

I don't know...i don't even know if she really said this...I think they played at Miami in 2003 after Bartoli had won the U.S. Open juniors.

Yeah, they did play in Miami in 2003. In the QFs Serena won 61 62.

If this is what she said, good for her. Having confidence and knowledge of your own game and self is very important. The match will speak for itself.

And about the comment... I'm happy that she is excited to play Serena. Hopefully we'll see a competitive match. :)

It's funny how everybody seems to be SURE Bartoli will get demolished by Serena.
I am not saying Bartoli will win, but Wimbledon was only a couple months ago - NOBODY thought she could beat Jankovic + Henin, and everybody was stunned when she did... but she did.
Since her 4th round in RG, she is not the same player at Slams, and she said it herself today, she feels ready for Serena.
So I wouldnt dismiss her so easily. You never know with Bartoli.

This will be a good match. It's good to see that Marion has confidence in herself; I didn't see anything wrong with what she said. I'm glad that she's up for the challenge. Don't think she'll win, but she can give Serena a good push.

It sounds like something Marion would say. The girl does seem to relish the spotlight ever since she got her chance at at Wimby. She's feisty.

I hope her game backs up her words because Serena loves her opponents dissing her before the match so that rena can absolutely DESTROY them on court and embarrass them into 304923943489398493 pieces. RAWRRRRR, bring it!

I hope Marion's game backs up her words because Serena loves it when her opponents diss her before the match actually starts. This way, Rena can go out there with her opponents' words in the back of her mind and absolutely DESTROY them on court and embarrass them into 304923943489398493 pieces. RAWRRRRR, bring it!

confidence is good.

While I'll be rooting for Serena to double bagel her (I want Serena to do that to everyone except Venus no matter what is said before a match)...

...I like this girl and there's nothing wrong with being confident in the face of a tough match. :yeah:

Good for Marion. If only every player had this attitude before they play a top player.

Marion can give Serena fits if Serena doesn't jump on her early. Marion makes like 3 or 4 errors per set and takes the ball SO early. I still expect Serena to beat her though.

This will be reminiscent of last year. Ivanovic was like ooooh I wanna play Serena. Never played her before and I wanna see what all the hype is about... 1 hour later she was off the court and out of the tournament.

She didn't say that, it might be a collection of things she said joined together to form that but it isn't a direct quote, because Marion barely speaks English and there is no way she could say something so perfectly in English.

She spoke English just fine in interviews during Wimbledon. Better than a lot of players. Much better than Nadal.

This should be a good test for Rena. Marion hits powerful balls at good angles which should have Serena on the run. But as usual it will depend on how she handles Rena's serve. If she allows Serena to get alot of easy points, then it could be a long day for her.

It's interesting because when it comes to Serena and only SERENA they all talk a big game. I mean she does makes careers but it's not like these players will win the tournament if they defeat her. I sure wish Marion had the tough girl talk during her dismal summer performances but such is life.

May the best woman win!! Go Serena!!

Serena's moving MUCH better which is BAD news for Marion, but  she feels confident enough to say that, then good on her.

I'm hoping for a beatdown though

Serena's match may have LOOKED scratchy, but Serena's game is all about pieces, and little things coming together at the right time. Her ROS and movement is looking pretty :scared: and if she keeps adding, then this is going to be a GREAT next 7 days for the 8-Time GS Champ :yeah:

Looking forward to the match.....Serena MAY have trouble with Marion! But yeah, these little innocent comments MAY piss Serena off---then Beatdown potential LOOMS! Can't wait to see what happens next!

So glad both Williams are here for the Open....it is so much more interesting than when they are out--when they are contenders, the tennis level on the whole tour elevates!

the intensity will be up a couple of gears from marion for this next round nd i love to hear her speak like that.. she believes she can take down serena and is obviously seriously pumped to show everyone that wimbledon wasn't jst a fluke. i hope it's a good match. this could b a noisy one from the ashe crowd if it goes right down to the wire.. I never rated Bartoli that highly, either, and I still don't think she's a future world class player. I think she'd already be there by now.

But one thing that I overlooked, like almost everybody else, was that Bartoli has more scope for improvement and improvisation than most other women on the tour because she has great hands, crisp connection and acute eyes. Those are the qualities all women require who play successfully with both hands on the racket from both sides, and they allow improvement to be continual. Whereas, most of the women on today's tour have minimal talent in those areas but instead have developed a methodical way of playing.

Of,course she's confident that's great. Serena is not playing her best so Marion should not have shaky knees or what, she's proved she can beat big players.

Bartoli has reached the top 10 had a wonderful Wimbledon. However, I agree with Martina Navratilova if Marion is serious and dedicated to her game she has to realize she needs to lose some weight. If Marion lost 20 to 25 pounds it would make a huge difference in her movement she would feel more confident and at least be healthy. Marion does have talent but the girl is heavy she puts a lot of stress on her heart.

How shocking it is. I think Marion has a chance of beating Serena

Nothing wrong with this. Do you expect Marion to go out there thinking that she has no chance of beating Serena? If she did that then she'd lose before she even went out on the court.

I'm really looking forward to this match anyway. :D

Anyone actually got the source of this comments? Anyone know if they are actually real?
Any player must go on court believing they can win or what is the point in them showing up?
