... when do they play the super third set? Only in regular WTA events? I thought a few years ago they started it in majors ... but today Hingis/Hantuchova went to a 6-4 in the third.

In spite of the Grand Slams, in all the tournaments.

It's not in Grand Slam tournaments, except for mixed doubles (everywhere except Wimbledon)
