The Sharapovs of course? Now look, i can understand wanting to win easily, but what was seen last night (and perhaps on monday) was :scared:

Not just looking for the mark with intent on challenging EVERY BALL that was OUT, while winning VERY easily, cruising in fact, she felt it necessary to get into it with the umpire, time to yell at the lines woman (and glare at the lady just trying to do her job and feed her family) at every opportunity after, SCREAMING at near full volume and fist pumping like she was losing control of that arm.

Not to even mention Yuri. LAWD HAVE MERCY! When Maria was threatening the umpire, Yuri was going wild in the players box. [Did you guys see it?] 5 minutes after the incident, and his daughter CRUISING to victory... man was still ranting aggressively about it. And the man never looks calm at all, always either fearful / VERY ANGRY.

I'm sorry but it's all too much, considering the situation. I mean i can understand players being ruthless, but when the majority of top players ARE being ruthless and winning VERY EASILY, they keep it toned down because they understand it isn't needed. I'm sure you guys would do the same.

PLEASE, no more Maria night matches until she gets a decent opponent! That was pathetic, as wes the antics of Yuri and Maria. Thank God for Fabrice and Blake! There are too may poor players in the Women^s Slams, perhaps there should be one less round than the mens draw?

Sharapova hit a ball close to the baseline that her opponent wasn't able to get to and was initially called "in" when her opponent challenged and the "in" call stood. However, Chair Umpire Lynn Welch called for the point to be replayed (which was wrong!) because Welch thought Sharapova's opponent stopped play to challenge. The replay clearly showed that Sharapova's opponent didn't have a chance to hit the ball.

Sharapova objected (which she should have!) because the ball she struck was a clear winner. Yuri was complaining to Joyce in the stands.

So the point was replayed with Sharapova winning it. All was well.

Its the worse call I've seen Lynn Welch make in years. No one is perfect.

Marshmallow Maria trolling again. Actually, Maria DIDN'T challenge a few linecalls that were wrong and she would have won, as Tracy Austin noted, so this - "Not just looking for the mark with intent on challenging EVERY BALL that was OUT, while winning VERY easily" is just laughable.

This is pathetic yet again. Play to win every point, play to win every game, play to win every set, play to win every match. Is that not how Maria plays? Keep the intensity up at all times, and take every point seriously. Just because you are beating someone 6-0, 5-1 doesn't mean you should let a close call slide. 1 point swing this way or that way, and you never know what kind of crazy comeback could occur.

I personally love it when my fave is psychotic in a match.
It usually means they want to win badly. Much better than
the bored "I wish I was somewhere else" look!

Showing aggro on court is ok,as long as you don't physically
hurt anyone:lol:. I'm not a pro but I find it helps to fire
urself up to keep motivated/ focused.

Plus Maria always seems psychotic on court to me:dance:.

Well i'm at least happy to see an honest fan. I applaude your courage, an inspiration to the rest of THEM.

And like i said before, there is nothing wrong with wanting to win badly and ruthlessness, all the top players have it. But how classless can you get, when your opponent has nothing to hurt you, does not match up against your game well at all.

Just compare Maria and Justine's performances in their last matches. Both had too much game for their opponents. Yet Maria behaving as though Yuri was going to give her some kind of beatdown if she lost another point. It OTT. I never want to hear someone call her classy again!

I don't think there anything offensive, "insulting" or even classless about she did. Sweetheart. Just about every ball that she hit out, she went over looking. Some of those were just plain OUT. But she felt the need to intimdate the umpire (remember what she did in LA against Dementieva).

Her opponent was playing as well as a Pig with broken legs... Just look at Justine today. Now that was class, even with some calls against her.

I watched parts of it, but I know what you're talking about cause this isn't the first time you bring this and I watched her in the early rounds before. It's her way of staying focused. What you see as "monstrusity" can also be seen as sheer determination and her way to stay focused. Again, it's not like she's doing this to torture her opponent. It shows that she's taking these matches very seriously, and I think it's just her way of testing her form even against lower lanked players and already planning her future matches. She's a very competitive person, and I'd take her anyday over the "nice, choke and never deliver" types like Hantuchova or Kuznetsova.

Well, I guess you know better than Shotspot which showed a few of the balls as being in and Tracy who actually mentioned Maria not challenging some of the calls that were wrong. :rolls:

She had a full right to challenge the ump on that point, because she was absolutely right. It shouldn't have been replayed... and it doesn't matter who the opponent is really. And to be fair, I've seen much worse.

I remember the Serena match against Mauresmo in the FO QF 2003, which ended in a complete thrashing of Mauresmo. Not to say that I find what Serena did in a negative way, but her intensity, the looks that she gave to the crowd and to Mauresmo certainly didn't reflect the intensity in the match. I think it was one of the main reasons why the French crowd was so hostile against her in the semifinal.

But is it not possible to test your game without unnecessary screams, exaggerated fist pumps, glares at lineswomen, loud shouts of "COM'ON" into the crowd? Watching all the other pros in first rounds, it is. It's like going into all out panic and distress during a fire drill. What kind of person does that?

Perhaps it is better than choking, but Dellacqua had NOTHING to hurt her, Maria was in NO danger at all. And Yuri was glaring at that court as though they were sentencing a child abuser. I felt embarassed for the girl, and the crowd must have felt the same way, because after she won that first set, there wasn't even a CLAP!

Well maybe it's not possible for her. She likes to compete 100% against anyone. I can't see what's the big deal. This is competition and a match after all, and not a good will charity event. Anyway, supposedly it's not the case, why do you think she does all that? I mean I'm pretty sure she knows at her back of her mind that this is an easy round and an easy opponent. And I'm also sure she isn't playing to torture her opponent or make her feel stupid or something.

And I know that the Mauresmo match was a QF. But it was also right in front of a French crowd supporting Amelie (who came up as one of the favorites for the tournament with fuss around her), and Serena was making those horrific glances everywhere and fist pumps..etc. Again, I don't mind that, especially that Serena was playing out of her mind. For some players, it's just a way for them to play better. They don't like to be subdued.

Ofcourse we can always agree to disagree.

You will never see such behaviour from the Williams..especially when leading with so much margin.
Its insane for real.

I completely disagree. The case is not same at all. Mauresmo is a top player and probably had the ability to defeat Serena.
Here you have Sharapova playing against a 'nobody', who had absolutely nothing to hurt her, and could not win more than one game a Sharapova serving @ 38%.

Lynn Welsh has made another pretty bad call, with Maria as the near victim again. She hit a winner against Li Na in Miami 2006 that was inside the sideline and she overrules the linesperson's call of in. Maria challenges and the replay shows that the ball was at least an inch inside the line and it made Lynn Welsh look absolutely stupid. But, Maria had every right to argue if the point was a clean winner and the call was overturned.

Honestly. I might not like Sharapova that much, but still! At least let the girl challenge rightfully. I could understand the hoopla if she was arguing something that would never get changed, but she had a valid point.

Maria...not even haters...like Maria stalkers, need to stop and get a life.

No, Serena wasn't psychotic last night. It was the opposite, she was rather in pain. But she'll get psychotic if she meets Maria in this final.

I don't think it's a fair comparison. Serena was being pushed hard. I have no prob with players calling on all they have to get through tough matches. But like i said - would you go in all out panic and distress during a fire drill? I think medication is avaliable for such people.

That isn't what I meant and you know it. I can understand being a fan of any player, but I've never been able to understand the antipathy some folks have for any player. I think starting a thread like this one and the spirit behind it is......I'll be nice and say it's unbecoming. I know you can put your time and energy to better use.

The USO is Maria's last hair left to grasp in a pretty bad year that it was so far.
I can understand her being a bit too cautious with every ball in every match, even the first rounds.
As for Maria needing to be a bit more merciful to those low ranked players, please... Nobody gonna get hurt, although isn't fair enough to face a lower player to a very good player so the former can't stand a chance, but the other option is the round robin (lot more weeks to play).

Andy.

I posted a nasty message about Serena in this thread. But then I thought and realized that Serena has nothing to do with this thread and the fact that one of her fans, who started this thread, is, unfortunately, mentally unstable and in need of urgent professional help. My apologies to her (not that she cares) and other DECENT fans of Serena.

PS. Maybe Serena could play an exhibition match to raise money, so that Mashbrainmellow could get the best possible help outthere? Just a thought.
