View Full Version : Casey Dellacqua: "If Maria plays anywhere near like this, she's winning it."

It's in Marias interview on the Open site...apparently Casey said that during her interview which they didn't post.

Ya she definitely wants to serve 50% or less...

If Maria plays 5 more scrubs (which she just might), then yes, she'll play like that and win it.

She's probably thinking highly of herself.
Sharapova would obviously need to serve better. Much better.

But yeah...that first serve is key.

It's just ridiculous when some mediocre player says this kinda statement after match with top player. It's as if when some of us would play with some, for example 158th player on ATP or WTA list and say afterwards "Oh he/she is winning Grand Slam for sure with this game"

Shimizu Amon

It's just a remark by a player. It's her opinion. Respect that.

And about Masha winning the entire tournament, well we get there when we get there.
It's still a long way to go.

It did sounde ridiculous when Olga Poutchkova said that Marion would win Wimbledon when she was defeated by the latter 6-0 6-0 in Quebec..

a year later, marion did reach Wimbledon Finals, losing to the Great Grass Queen herself, Venus Williams..

Maria is playing like she alway play. She just out their banging the ball getting the quick win.

Her game has no depth or strategy to it. It's just get out their and bash the ball and let the people see how well you can do that.

Well that doesn't work against the sisters because they can out hit her, their stronger than Maria, and most of all, their faster than Maria. It won't work against the other top players like Anna.

She spends so much time bashing the ball, she's not developing any other strategy, like changing the pace of the ball, hitting affective net shots and overhead lobs.

She can't beat them on the run, so she'll be forced to see winners sail right by her.

This is the same ball bashing, skreeching Maria who we've seen over the past 5 years. That ball bashing works for lower ranked players with no power, but for people like the Williamses and Anna, etc. it won't cut it.

Did you watch her first two matches?

She had two amazing lobs in a row during her first round. Last night she won 14 of 17 net approaches. You sing the same song, about how she no variety or plan B. Well she does.

Btw, its Ana not Anna who she has problems with. Also, Venus, Serena and Ana are the three women who serve over 200 km/h. Everyone has problems with that kind of serving when its on.

I have issues with that argument.

Maria can hit drop shots, and volley. So can most people in the top twenty. They just can't do it well. Not well enough to incorporate into big matches, at least. Players who can (Mauresmo, Henin, Hingis) use it.

Let's put it this way. If what Maria is best at (offensive baselining) isn't working, doing things she's never going to be that good at (net game, defense, slice, drop shots, lobs, etc.) isn't going to get the job done either.

I have news for you, Vinci is ranked 51 because of 2 good runs earlier this year in a TierI and a TierIII. Since March, she hasn't won back to back matches. Yes Nagy sucked aswell but Olaru is so much better than Dellacqua :tape: Seriously there was no obvious difference between Vinci and Nagy the way that they were playing in the MD

A swinging volley is "technically" a volley in the same way a overhead smash is "technically" a volley: both involve hitting the ball before it bounces.

The skill set involved in swinging volleys and traditional volleys are vastly different.

I'm by no means a Maria fan, but Casey is right IMO. Maria had 30 winners and 13 errors last night. She had 30 winners and 10 errors in her last match. Those are home and away the cleanest performances of the tournament so far...top players on the mens tour would be happy with those stats, minus the first serve percentage. Casey didn't put up much of a fight, but anybody outside the top 5 would struggle to do much better with the way Maria is playing.

Say what you want, clearly Maria wasn't at her best level at ANY point in this match. She didn't play that well in the 2nd Set or the start of the third either - She was just better than Radwanska.

And as others have said, yes, Casey stated Maria would win with her form from the first two rounds. Clearly, that form deserted her in that match so I wouldn't put across that Dellacqua's opinions are in any way stupid or anything...

A match that goes to three sets isn't having her 'ass handed to her.' Having her 'ass handed to her' could be said about her other grand slam losses this year, but in this case, no. Gimp :wavey:

Yo, quit the excuses, alright? Like in her last 2 matches with ZERO resistance from the cupcakes, Maria looked in form and was at her best level in the Radwanska match. The difference in that match is, the moment Rad refuses to roll over and counter punched with better and smarter play, POVA was rattled, disintegrated & eventually collapsed.

Harsh as it may sound, that's the fact as it occurred. Don't bring coulda, shoulda, woulda to it.

Great players almost always find ways to win despite not playing at their best level particularly when they're up against a player they're supposed to beat. Have you noticed Serena lately? Check the quality opponents she played at this tournament versus Maria's and, still, Serena find ways to win despite no tune up matches since Wimbledon. If POVA was in Serena's section of the draw, no doubt, she would be long out of the tournament.......perharps, in a more disgraceful fashion too.

Therefore, the Maria "not playing at her best level" excuse is arrant garbage; pure & simple!!! Only a fool or her fans will by that from you.

Oh, wasn't Casey the last cupcake Maria pulverized before her loss? What else could she say other than to praise Maria? What does Casey know huh?
