i hope so but i doubt that would happen. Elena wasn't even close to taking off Jelena a set in their last meeting

Elena's playing her best tennis in quite some time but this is a grand slam, and particularly a grand slam fourth round. Elena likes to  or :timebomb: in important matches in slams.

If Elena beats her, fabulous. But just knowing her history it's not going to happen.

We are not making fun of Elena, wait and see.
She played awful last year against Jelena.

Plus her forehand seems to be back to 04 form and that means a short tournament for Jelena

They both have to get there. I think they will.
Lena has a final and 2 SF's here. It's her best major. She also has been to the finals of Miami and IW, and won LA.
US hardcourts are her best surface.

Janko DOMINATED Dementieva the last 2 times they played, one of them being at the US Open. So much for this crazy prediction :p

With Lena, it depends on her current form. She's not ultra consistent.
Last week was the best she's looked in a while. Lena won 12 of the last 14 games vs Bartoli.

Lena is such a surprise... she can lose to scrubs and then she might destroy a top10 player. Who knows what happens if they both meet in the 4th round. I'm betting on Jelena though.

Not just last year but their last two meetings, same scoreline, same poor tennis from Elena and very solid Jankovic in those two matches. I believe if Elena is eager and determined enough to beat her, there'll be some extra motivation from her..like against Bartoli, she lost to her two times in a row badly, now she won two times. But Jankovic>Bartoli . Bartoli has dropped her level a little but mainly physically she is not where she was (at Wimby)

After two losses 16,26, Elena must do something to change this. She was really far from taking even a set off Jelena.
I hope this year it'll be different, but still really difficult because Jelena is extremely consistant and hasn't dropped her level at all.

If Lena is 100% fit and her groundstrokes are solid, she can beat her. The serve is not that needed if there are groundstrokes and health. Of course, a couple of aces and not shaky 2nd serve won't do any harm :D

Jankovic should stop wasting MPs against Gajdosova first

Lena beat her in the LA final last year.

Gajdosova is being so much more aggressive than Jankovic. Sure, she's inconsistent, but, right now, her shots are going in.

She'll lose if she plays like she did in the second set of her match today...short high balls...Elena will snack on those all day. Jelena needs to raise her game significantly. She's capable of doing it, we'll have to see if she does as things progress.

Gajdosova beat herself...I'm not kidding. Raise her game JJ must...if she makes it to the 4th round, Lena will have her for dinner if she played like she did today.

If Jankovic doesn't put more power in her strokes, she will get eaten alive by a more consistent player than Gajdosova. Her serve was very bad today, Elena would really have her chances if she is healthy.

JJ always plays crap when she underestimates her opponent. I'm sure she won't underestimate Elena and play to her potential :D

There was really no reason to underestimate Gajdosova...she played not much differently than at Wimbledon earlier this year. Either she hits or she misses, if she's fed balls to tee off on. JJ just looked completely off.

Elena has defeated better players than Jankovic in the past

I mean , Mauresmo - Capriati - Davenport , etc .

I have a feeling Jankovic and Sharapova will be going home in the same round this year.....

elena is capable of winning against top players like jankovic remember in 2004 against heavily favoured capriati? and also in 2005 against heavily favoured davenport? and she always said that us open is her best tournament 3 sf appearance and 1 final so when it comes to us open don't count elena dementieva out she is a silent killer in that tournament

I just hope Lena gets that far.

I'd never bet on Elena in a big match, but then again I'd never bet against her either.

If they play Lena will either come out and play like total crap and lose in about an hour, or will come out a give Jankovic as good as she gets and either trounce her in 2 or win a 3 set thriller. I think she is due a big win but im more concerned with her being upset earlier on even though her draw is pretty cushy.
