I can't remember when was the last time we had so many ladies matches on opening day on center court of a Grand slam. Jankovic, Henin and Williams's all tomorrow on A.Ashe, only FedEx sneaked in   :hearts:
And such honour for Jelena to open this year's USO on Center court :worship:

I don't ever remember a schedule like this.

This is a major first, correct?

4 women's singles and 1 mens match for an early round?

Yeah, I think on Wimbledon only one ladies match was scheduled on opening day on Center court

It's one guy who started a thread to complain, really. The people who replied have a bit more common sense.

She's on the bottom of the draw ;) Tomorrow's day is only reserved for better halfs

Well I don't think it's that much of an honour for Jelena as AA Court tends to be near-empty and the few people that are there don't give a shit.
Still, not too bad.

The afternoon session on day 1, no one is in the stadium. Everyone is milling around.
It doesn't matter who's in the stadium. Only Kournikova could draw a crowd.

Tennis is so dead in the US, I'd love to USA network tv ratings. I know Raismann of the NYDailyNews called USO ratings "test pattern ratings"

That's pretty cool.

I'll join in with the others, "in your face, Wimbledon". :ras::lol:

SO PLEASE people don't complain if on tuesday we'll have 4 men and 1 woman (or later on in the week). The men's matches aren't too interesting, djoko and ancic is one, but otherwise, they will go for the top seeds (male and female). I don't think it's that strange cause all the other men seem to be up and down.

On tuesday tough i'm predicting djoko, blake, roddick and nadal

Don't be too excited about it. During the first round the Ashe stadium is usually quite empty - about 20% full - for day matches. Crowds are spreading around the outside courts.

The reason they put more women's match on Ashe during the day is because they have the openning ceremony and tribute in the evening and they want it to take place ON TIME. If they put mostly men's matches in the day session, two five-setters can lead to significant delay of the evening event. This is all due to logistic consideration and nothing more.

Just because tennis doesn't bring the highest ratings doesn't mean it's dead in the US, especially at BJK NTC where I'm sure it'll be alive and well. :p

So, during the day, I'm guessing that the USA Network will show some combination of Jankovic/Gajdosova, Henin/Goerges, Ivanovic/Nakamura, Federer/Jenkins.

except for more time that they have, they probably wanted to concentrate on the williamses with all this advertising, cause they'll want americans in the evening.

Anybody have an idea what USA Network will be showing at 11 AM EST? There's the JJ match, and on other courts Davydenko, & Baghdatis. Do they switch around or stick with one? Which would they most likely show? For some reason I'm totally blanking on what their coverage was like last year, and I don't know if I want to get up at 8 AM PST to see a 1st round ATP match.

Tennis doesn't seem too popular in the US but the US Open really seems popular, if you see the record attendance and all.
