Natalie  :bigcry: Served for the first set at 6-5 (after being down 4-5, 0-40) and was broken, and led 4-0 in the TB :help:

Congrats Kyra.

A damn shame. If only she got into better shape, she not only would be winning such matches, but probably would get directly into the slams.:rolleyes: I guess her time will come!

That is 20 consecutive Grand Slam qualies for Natalie Grandin but still not one main draw. I wonder what the record is for most consecutive appearances in the Grand Slam qualifying competition without ever reaching the main draw?

How old is Grandin? When she came back from the bathroom break, she was a foot away from me and she looked to be in her early to mid 30's. I enjoyed watching her play b/c she represents those of us who aren't Size 0's, 2's or 4's showing that we can be competitive as well.

It is obviously true that if she got in better shape she would be a much more successful player. That she has maintained a place in the top 250 for such a long time despite being in frankly very poor shape says a great deal about how much natural talent she has.

So will her time come? Maybe. But she is 26 and time is running out fast. I would say if she has genuine aspirations to be a top 100 player she has two, maybe just maybe three, years left to get fit. If not all she can hope to achieve is to extend her record of qualifying failure. Honestly, I think if she was going to get fit she would have done it by now so I must say I don't see her making anymore progress from where she is now. But were she to prove me wrong she would have my highest respect.

Grandin is REALLY out-of-shape. I was shocked....

She is noticably heavier than most girls but I didn't think she was out of shape. She competed really well today, I thought.

She certainly competed well, especially as it was so damn hot!

When I saw her a few years ago, it was obvious that she doesn't have a thin build. Her legs in particular were pretty strong if I remember. However, I can't help but think if she toned up just a bit more, she would be able to move around a bit more. I guess she's not going to blow anyone off the court, and that's what I loved about her game, so probably all the more important? But perhaps it's just become more of a mental issue more than anything. I hope to see her once more before she retires!
