Lucky:
Sharapova (always on the weaker side of draw)
Kuznetsova (winning titles by retirements and reaching a GS final without facing a top 20 player)
Ivanovic (again easy road to a Slam final)
Stevenson (reaching a Slam SF with that much talent)

Unlucky:
Henin & Serena (3rd Slam QF in a row for the world's best 2 players, fuck me)
Nadia (she always drew her nemesis Sharapova for QFs when she was at the top of her form)
Dementieva (she couldn't win a slam when lesser players Kuznetsova and Myskina did)
Schnyder (because she was born with no fighting spirit and wasted all that talent)

Kuznetsova DID BEAT TOP20 players to reach her grand slam finals :

US Open 2004 - she beat Petorva and Davenport

Roland Garros 2006 - she beat Schiavone, Safina and Vaidisova to get to the final.

No grand slam final is easy to get too

Ivanovic had to beat Chakavetadze, plus the world #2 and #3 to get to the final. Easy? I dont think so!

Lucky players:
Julia GOERGES (GER) - drew Henin in first round of US Open, practically a bye.
Kira NAGY (HUN) - drew Venus Williams in first round of US Open, also pretty much a certified win.

Unlucky players:
Angelique KERBER (GER) - suffered the stress of knowing she had to play Brie Whitehead in LA, the pressure of not losing a game must have been unbearable

Gisela DULKO (ARG) - drew Audra Cohen in Quarters in Forest Hills.

Lucky = Anna Kournikova. If she wasn't beautiful no one would've cared that she never won a singles title nor would she be so rich.

Unlucky = Chanda Rubin. Injuries, injuries and more injuries.

Lucky players - Those who go through their entire careers without any serious injuries. Those who find supportive, highly skilled coaches early on in their careers.

Unlucky players - Those who suffer chronic injuries or have at least one deranged parent.

Every tennis player will get a few good and few bad draws in their careers, it is what they do with their good opportunities and how they handle their bad draws that define how good a player they will be.

how about this for unlucky:
sanda mamic: almost lost her arm to a bacterial infection she got playing a tournament in asia. then suffered a serious wrist injury and underwent surgery. then, before she even got back on court, she suffered bouts of both hepatitis and mono. she hasn't played a pro match in two years

I don't think that Ivanovic has an easy road to the final here. Venus in the 4th round, Jelena in the QF and Serena or Henin in the SF
