Looks like a good draw for Sveta. As always, we have to hope she makes the most of it. I'm glad that Justine, Jelena, Venus and Serena are all in the other half. Of the chief 'suspects', only Ana I is in Sveta's half.

It's just down to Sveta's mental attitude. Sometimes I think she doesn't have the self-belief that she really needs if she's going to cut it with the world's top players. Seems like she's done best when she's had the will to serve-and-volley, come into the net a bit - like she did last week against Shaughnessy, and at Wimbledon against Tamira Paszek (4th round).

It's a great draw, it just depends whether Sveta can really get her game together, but if she can then she has a great chance.

D'oh!! I realised soon after making my previous posting that in fact Ana is in the opposite half of the draw to Kuzy. I must have misread it, or else maybe the version I was looking at was badly formatted. So, even better. Just hope she can make the most of it.

She should be rested for round 1.

I spoke (very briefly) to Sveta before and after her match.
She seemed in good spirits, and the match was good. The first
set better than the 2nd--she said she got a little tight in
the 2nd, but even the 2nd was OK. Got broken, but obviously
did what she needed to do to get the win.

But yeah, she was bopping around, very cheerful. It was good
to see.

I don't think I'll be able to see her on Thursday, as I'm
guessing they'll put her on Ashe (and I only have a ground
pass, and may even skip that to go to an art museum in NY.
It's my first time here, and although a friend took me out to
dinner and for a drive through NY last night, that's basically
all I've done except for the tennis.)

Sveta beat Szavay in the final at New Haven only ten days ago. Hopefully she can do it again.

Regarding her ranking, she should be at least no. 3 next week. If she can go to no. 2 then brilliant! I don't suppose either Venus or Serena would overtake Sveta if one of them were to win at Flushing Meadows?

I went to the Us Open on Saturday, and was hoping that Sveta and Patty would be on the same court so was slightly peeved when Sveta was 4th on LA and Patty 3rd on Grandstand, luckily Sveta's match stayed on LA though and didnt get moved to Ashe as we had groundpasses only. We decided to go to grandstand, and we saw petrova get hammered by Szavay, and a great match between Haas and Grosjean. We then watched a great match between patty and paszek, though i was absolutely gutted that patty lost. By this time grandstand was absolutely rammed for the Murray match so we decided to head over to LA where Sveta had only just started, i was dissapointed that so many people had left, but it was great to be so close to the match as there was hardly anyone else there. Sveta played really well, it was great to see her play so well and really enjoy herself. She did a great on court interview afterwards and seemed in really great spirits, she signed loads of autographs afterwards, and i managed to take a few pictures. It was great to see Sveta again and see her playing so well. We managed to see Svetas match against Azarenka on the large screen at the rockefeller centre which was cool and again Sveta played a solid match. Im really pleased Sveta is in the semi's, let's hope she takes the title :). Im going to post my pics, in the picture thread.

Sveta is the World #2 next week? Really? Are you sure? I mean Maria has a jut of nearly 800 points. And between both is still Jelena Jankovic with nearly 400 points from Sveta. Well, I think Maria will lose lots of points because of her early retirement in this tournament. But Im not sure, if its enough for Sveta becoming the number 2 of the world. Maybe it depends on her success in the semifinal and hopefully in the final. I would be delighted for her. :bounce:

Re: rankings, well, I reckon Maria will lose quite a lot of points; Jelena reached S/F last year so will lose a bit, and Sveta is gaining because she only reached 4th round last year. Venus and Justine are having a good old battle - could be a long match. Hopefully the winner of that one will be tired from the semi when the final is played tomorrow and that should help Sveta. Sveta  . Major chances in that second set, had 6 bp's and won none of them, had game points in every game in the second except one. The scoreline overly flatters Justine, in fact the match was a lot closer, and Sveta should of pushed this to 3 with the chances she had.
