View Full Version : US Open 2007

Aug 22nd, 2007, 06:15 PM
The 2007 US Open main draw came out today. Here's Maria's early section of the draw:

SREBOTNIK, Katarina SLO [22]

So, she plays Muller whom she destroyed last week. Then she's set to play #22 Srebotnik, who beat her in Stanford earlier this summer 0 and 6. If she gets by that, she could face #9 Daniela! All winnable matches. Probably as good a draw as you could hope for. I wish she could've faced Stosur earlier who is struggling.

Now what happens if Zvonareva or S Williams pulls out and they give Maria a seed? Do they redo the draws? Do they put Maria in the place of the spot where Vera or Serena were? Anyone know?

Aug 22nd, 2007, 07:23 PM
Muller in the first round...
I'm okay with that..
I think it's a good draw for Maria..

Don't know about the "re-draw" Ronnie..
Maybe in this early stadium they might do a re-draw, in which Maria would be seeded.. ?

The draw looks favorable for Makiri and with the way she has been playing lately, i could see her reaching the round of 16.

Aug 22nd, 2007, 07:30 PM
After Muller the draw gets tricky for Maria. The next possible opponents are not tough but tricky. I don't think she's ever beaten them before.

Aug 22nd, 2007, 11:17 PM
If to take US Open Draw it has developed for Maria concerning successful, could be and is worse. I so think, that to Martina Muller Masha will pass without special problems since one week ago Masha in easy struggle has beaten it in two sets. As to others tennis players, I do not undertake yet to do what or forecasts. We live we shall see. Good luck Makiri!!! :)

Aug 22nd, 2007, 11:28 PM
I like this draw! Maria have a lot of change!

Aug 22nd, 2007, 11:30 PM
Easy draw, shes main favourite to win this section to me...More than Kata and Dani.

Aug 22nd, 2007, 11:33 PM
I like this draw! Maria have a lot of change!

Aug 23rd, 2007, 12:31 AM
A pretty good draw. Kata and Dani won't be easy though. Good luck Makiri!

Aug 23rd, 2007, 06:14 AM
not a bad draw but it could have been a little easier than having molik and vesnina srebotnik and hantuchova

Aug 23rd, 2007, 09:07 AM
I think it's good draw for Maria, after all the draw in this part, such player's there
ara some at who against Maria already to play, and be at who already defeat(Müller,
Petrova),so know the rival's well and she sure know, what will be needed to play.
(I think the 31(Radwanska) and 32(Krajicek)seed not got better draw.)
I wish they would good play Maria and would succeed again 3(or 4)matches win,as in
Los Angeles and in San Diego.
Question, whether in Toronto for injury remain mark?
Come on Maria!

Aug 23rd, 2007, 12:06 PM
I'm comfortable with this draw. There isn't a player in Maria's quarter of the draw who really scares me. I would expect a tough match against Srebotnik and Dani won't be any pushover, but having Petrova and Kuznetsova as potential 4th round/quarter-final opponents is as good as she could expect.

I don't think either Petrova or Kuznetsova is in great form at the moment, so Maria should not lack belief if she faces these players.

Tricky draw, not unbeatable but they're good too. Hope Maria's at her best and brings her summer form to Flushing Meadows. Take it a match at a time, best not to look ahead. ;)

Aug 24th, 2007, 03:31 PM
If Makiri plays in her current form from San Diego & L.A., she will go deep in the draw. Like Aaron said, just take one match at a time. Good luck Makiri at Flushing Meadows. Play your game, treat every point as a match point, go for your shots, and FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

Aug 25th, 2007, 02:22 PM
Pretty nice draw for her :D
Davai Makiri ! :worship:

Aug 26th, 2007, 06:53 AM
martina muller again :p well this draw is not bad,i hope there will be a Maria-Daniela match in 3rd round. :)

Aug 26th, 2007, 12:14 PM
If Maria can play her best here, I believe she can make the QF's. Nobody can play their best all the time, but I hope she can. And still time too take WTA title #2 before the end of the season :)

Good luck Maria! You can do it!

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Aug 26th, 2007, 04:05 PM
She won't reach the QF, even I hope so!

Good Luck Masha! :)

Aug 26th, 2007, 04:53 PM
I hope she can play well, good luck Maria.:D

Aug 26th, 2007, 07:27 PM
She can definitely reach the quarter finals, I can't understand any of her fans being negative. The only thing that worries me is her knee.

Still she should just take it a match at a time and leave the dreaming to us!

The ladies doubles draw was released eariler today and Makiri is playing in it. She`ll be teamming up again with Elena Vesina. :D Here`s their section of the draw:

[i]Elena Likhovtseva (RUS) & Tiantian Sun (CHN) (8) vs Ashley Harkleroad (USA) & Vera Zvonareva (RUS)
Stephanie Foretz (FRA) & Yaroslava Shvedova (RUS) vs Madison Brengle (USA) & Ashley Weinhold (USA)
Iveta Benesova (CZE) & Galina Voskoboeva (RUS) vs Dominika Cibulkova (SVK) & Camille Pin (FRA)
Akiko Morigami (JPN) & Meilen Tu (USA) vs Maria Kirilenko (RUS) & Elena Vesnina (RUS) (11)
Agnes Szavay (HUN) & Vladimira Uhliriova (CZE) (14) vs Jamea Jackson (USA) & Chanda Rubin (USA)
Petra Cetkovska (CZE) & Lucie Safarova (CZE) vs Eleni Daniilidou (GRE) & Jasmin Woehr (GER)
Paola Suarez (ARG) & Roberta Vinci (ITA) vs Marta Marrero (ESP) & Selima Sfar (TUN)
Lourdes Dominguez Lino (ESP) & Arantxa Parra Santonja (ESP) vs Alicia Molik (AUS) & Mara Santanhelo (ITA) (4)

Makiri and Elena`s section of the draw has some tough teams there, but at the same time i think that the Blonde Bombers as i like to call Makiri and Elena, has a good shot of going on a nice run. They played very well together at Wimbledon and i really think that they can do it again at the US Open.

Aug 27th, 2007, 05:15 AM
There section looks pretty nice until the third round. Good luck girls!

Aug 27th, 2007, 09:51 AM

So now your signature means 'please visit my place of Maria' and it's not nice because 'place' in Russian also can mean 'part of the body'. :)

Maria will face Srebotnik again, who has a 2 -0 win advantage over Maria. Their last meeting was in Stanford where MAria played two tough 3 set matches the previous day, and had barely 18 hours rest before she had to face Srebotnik.

Hopefully it will be a very different outcome in R2

Beat the crap out of her Maria!!

Oh yeah they are up 3rd on the same court i forget, i was just surprised to see her playing with Igor also.. i hope she's not playing too much and ruining her chances of taking advantage of her draw.

Aug 29th, 2007, 11:59 AM
What are they playing at? Has she gone mad? I suppose this does suggest that the knee problem can't be too bad, but she's going to burn herself out if she goes on like this!

I'm sure her and Igor will have some fun, but I doubt her coach will be too happy.

Congrats Makiri with your 1st round win! It's great to see Makiri continue playing in good form from San Diego & L.A. Good luck with your 2nd match with Srebotnik. I'm also concerned that she's playing mixed doubles with Igor along with the women's doubles. I hope it doesn't jeopardize her chances in the singles department especially with Dani falling out in her section of the draw yesterday. But, again she needs to take each match one at time. Focus on beating Katarina first then move on to the next round. The draw is looking very promising for Makiri. Just play your game Makiri, go for your shots, treat every point as a match point, and FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

The mixed doubles match has just ended and unfortunately Makiri and Igor were taken to the bakery. I know know they were playing against a pretty good team in Ram and Dechy and likely had dinner plans, but still it`s not too much for Makiri and Igor to be much more competitive. The only postitves from the doubles matches today is that Makiri got in some work on the courts and her schedule load is greatly lessened. She needs to play much better tomorrow.

Aug 30th, 2007, 09:06 AM
After very confident win one very important match follow for Maria.
Alter all if finally would succeed defeat for Maria at Srebotnik be opened the road
to match for the quarterfinals.
I wish they would good play Maria and would succeed again win!
But Maria why take on too much at doubles match, when would important in singles well

Aug 30th, 2007, 11:09 AM
Well, I just hope that these defats haven't affected her confidence going into the 2nd round singles.

It is only human that she would have noticed Daniela's defeat, but she must not look ahead of the match in front of her against Srebotnik. I'll make Maria favourite, but it'll be another nail-biter.

She has 3rd Ranking point to defend here Rod. I would much prerfer she concentrated on singles, more so as her ranking is hanging in the 30's. But she knows whats best for her. Ronnie and I spoke to her on a radio chat prog, and she said singles and doubles at a tournie didnt matter, you could be all fired up for a singles and lose. She loves playing doubles and said it helped her a lot.

Just hope she dosent settle down to be a doubles player. Dani H did for a long time.

That's an excellent win for Maria over Srebotnik especially after Katerina routined Masha in their last match. :) Now Masha really needs to win her next match against Vakulenko and maeke it to the fourth round and second week of a grand slam for the first time in her career. But Julia is a big girl with a power baseline game that can trouble Maria.

On a side note I'm glad Makiri has doubles and mixed doubles out of the way so she can concentrate on her singles game and not have the doubles and mixed doubles tire her out for singles.

Aug 30th, 2007, 11:27 PM
First time she beat Katarina, this deserves :worship:

Congrats Makiri on your 2nd round victory over Srebotnik! I'm glad Makiri doesn't have to worry about doubles anymore and can now just focus on her singles which is way more important. This is an excellent opportunity for her to go deep in the draw with Dani gone. Vakulenko is another formidable obstacle Makiri needs to hurdle over which I think she can do. Makiri just play your game, be aggressive and go for your shots, play each point as a match point, and FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

After tragic Wednesday came one successful Thursday!
I very happy, that for Maria such self-confidently successful win!
I much tight expect to match.Yet good this so.
I think, that next match will be easier, but for the rival also sure grown up confindene,
that she defeat one TOP-10 player, and still be in tournament.
Yet,therefore I hope, that the same will be the final result,as on Australian Open in
early Year,and Maria win!
FInally then would work out 3win on Grand Slam tournament also!
Yet on the next matches also may yet good enough chance of victory for Maria.
(Petrova or Szávay against.)
I wish they would good play Maria and would succeed again win!

I am so proud of the way she fought on!!

And she has only been with Eric van Harpen since June! This season is still there for her, and next will be even better!

She will have a wee rest now, and the its Kolkata India.

Maria's first and second serve averages were higher than the much bigger and stronger Vakulenko's were. Thus Masha should have been able to hold serve better than she did. Maria is still an up and down player and that dissapoints me. :(

Sep 1st, 2007, 10:51 PM
Maybe its time you supported somebody else then.

Sep 1st, 2007, 11:43 PM
I'm quite saddened with the result here. If Makiri had pulled out a victory over Julia, who knows how far in the draw she could of gotten especially with Big Masha out the picture now. Another opportunity lost. I'm still optimistic and the outlook is good with Makiri's vastly improved game that we've seen in San Diego & L.A. I sense a positive vibe in her and her game compared to last year. I just want to see her snatch another singles title before the season ends. Let's hope Makiri & Van Harpen can make it happen.

Sep 2nd, 2007, 12:21 AM
Hey, I've read on another thread that at the end of Makiri's match with Vakulenko, she smashed her racket and gave Julia a cold handshake at the net. Is this true??? Can anybody prove this with a pic or video clip???? It's like Moscow revisited. She did the same thing last year against Schiavone. Even Makiri realized the great chance she had to get to the quarters at the US Open. Another opportunity lost.

Sep 2nd, 2007, 01:23 AM
I was at the match. Maria pretty much played like crap the entire match with numerous unforced errors at critical points in the match. With Julia serving for the match at 5-4 in the 2nd, Maria was up 15-40 with a chance to even the match. She lost both points (including dumping an easy 2nd serve return into the net) and had another break point which she also didn't convert. Match point was an easy forehand sitter than Maria hit wide. Then she smashed her racquet to the ground, but surprisingly didn't break the raquet. I didn't notice anything unusual with the handshake at the end though.

Sep 2nd, 2007, 03:14 PM
unlucky maria even tho its only the 3rd round its still a good result i think

Sep 2nd, 2007, 04:18 PM
I'm massively disappointed in the result but i won't criticise Masha for it. It would have been silly to get carried away with the Jankovic win and likewise no-one should berate Masha on one poor performance. This is her 1st loss to a lower ranked player since Wimbledon and she hasn't had a bad match since then, so i wouldn't call her form inconsistent.

I'm not worried about the racket abuse either. The match had finished and you can't internalise everything. I prefer that to Kournikova-style blankness as it proves that Masha DOES care. Maybe she could have shown a bit more class towards her opponent on this occasion, but we all know Masha is a fine woman.

Sep 2nd, 2007, 04:29 PM
Bad luck Maria

Still she had a couple of good wins, hope she forget this and remain positive in her next tournaments :)

Sep 3rd, 2007, 09:40 AM
Poor Maria again no knew exceed she herself shadow! She at the same time and at the
same place defeat as last year at such times.
After matchpoint she was very furious.
This comprehesible, because she also would very belovedwin, and in the last minute
almost successful turn at matches, but chiefly, see that what surmountable rival's
stay in competition.
With that defeat almost successful ruin, the in Amerika summer's 10win!
Maria sometime break through at hitch which between the Grand Slam 3rd and 4rd
I think for Eric Van Harpen yet very much work will have with Maria in this theme.
Maria should be in head stronger.(Because it's of great importance.)
I'd like it very much, that very for long he co-operate like this successful,as in
the summer with Maria. Then maybe one day turn out well, maybe coming in future.
Now that so come into being in next two week,it would be good Maria have a good rest,
and very much prepare for the Asian tour, that she not just one on matches win!
