I thought it was time we had a thread for the USO....anything & everything

So I'll start ;)

YahooSports has a great video of Jim Courier talking about Maria that is very postive...

Has anyone heard of Justine's shoulder injury...?

Keep a look out, it seems like alot of players are making tv apperences this week before the USO begins, so we should be seeing Maria on some shows or the topic of discussion....you would think.

Draw is out:
http://www.usopen.org/en_US/scores/draws/ws/index.html
Chakvetadze and Vaidisova in Maria's quarter.
Likely semi with Kuznetsova or Nadia.
Not a bad draw at all.

Well, the draw is pretty good i think! Vaidisova in 4th round, then Anna Ch. Nadia or Sveta in SF. Both Williams sisters are in the top half. Yeah, good draw!
Good luck at the final Grand Slam of the year, Maria! COME ON! :clap2:

it looks like a pretty good draw....for Maria. Ivanovic, Jankovic, both Williams not in Maria's half.....let the Maria bashing begin....you guys know we're never gonna hear the end of this....blah blah blah. Maria gets another cakewalk, she's got no compitetion, you know all the bullcrap.....but oh well ;) its great news!

I'm not sure what all the hollering is about. There are very tough players in Maria's quarter--Chakvetadze, Mirza, who has been red-hot on the hardcourts this summer, Paszek the "future world #1", Radwanska...

That's not easy. For the first 4 rounds, Maria's draw is as hard as anyone's. I think she did get a bit lucky in drawing Kuznetsova/Petrova in the semi slot, rather than Jankovic, but all in all, it isn't a cakewalk.

More important than her draw is whether her shoulder and shin injuries are any better.

As far as draws go, it's decent. You can't say the bottom half is as tough as the top half.

pretty decent draw... couldnt ask for anything more. i would have loved maria to have the toughest draw, ie venus, serena, ana, jelena etc. just to prove that she doesnt have easy draws and can beat those players but i can settle for this!!

only early scare is if she comes up agaisnt peer or vaidisova.. both players will be so up for facing her, not only because its maria but because she's the defending champion! either way there should be some great matches!!!

go maria! win the last slam of the year!!

The draw looks very favorable for Maria. She might have a challenge in a potential matchup against Nicole in the round of 16, which i would love to see. I really like Maria`s chances of repeating as champion.

Now seriously, don't get me wrong here, but for the first time I can sort of understand any hater comment about Maria's draw...
every possible "threat" to her is on the other side of the draw!!

I do trust Maria to win anything no matter what, but seriously, if someone give me one dollar and ask me to bet in one side of the draw where the possible champion would emerge... I wouldn't put on Maria's half....

I will be watching very closely every match from the other side of the draw  :tape:

p.s. now for real, if one of the WS manage to reach the finals again here with all those amazing players and whitout playing any tournamente before I will be freaking mad!! :fiery:
It's nothing against them, but is just like the way that they don't give a damn for any tournament that is not a GS or Miami
I do understand that what matters are the GS, but seriously, this whole withdrew from them just strikes me as lack of commitment with tennis itself
It's not a hate thought, it's just my personal view over the subject
Doesn't matter how talent you are that you just assume that only matters to play the GS... jeez Roger Federer playes the other tournies!! again: ROGER FEDERER!!

I don't know about the champion emerging from the top half. I think everyone will be so focused on the top half because of potential matchups that the winner just might come out of Maria's half.

And all I can laugh is at Tennis.com's prediction that Maria wouldn't get past the quarters. I guess they thought that Venus or Serena might be in her half. The moral of that story? Don't make predictions without seeing the draw first.

same thing... this is just kind of outstanding luck! (not sure if these two words can be used together in English:confused: :) )

Anyway, we shouldn't forget that Maria never won a major with an easy draw. Last year she had to beat Amelie and Justine to win and those two were exactly the main "threat" to her in 2006.

I didn't predict anything
I just say who I would bet if someone ask me
after all I'm cheering for Maria and I do hope that she gets to defend her title there (even that sounds super hard)

Let's be honestly, everyone on WTAtour seems to be ill those days :help:
Henin and Jankovic played AWFUL!! on Toronto final
seriously... they both played 2 amazing points and then stupids UEs on the next 3 or 4 points :tape:

just weird.....

And all I can laugh is at Tennis.com's prediction that Maria wouldn't get past the quarters. I guess they thought that Venus or Serena might be in her half. The moral of that story? Don't make predictions without seeing the draw first.

I believe that they and all the Red Sox fans thought that
* using Red Sox here just for serve as example of huge amount of people thinking the same thing

who could prtedict that both would be on the same half and not on Maria's half...

same thing... this is just kind of outstanding luck! (not sure if these two words can be used together in English:confused: :) )

if it can ot not I don't know, but I definatelly couldn't find something better to serve as a example for what I'm feeling

and it's not like having Serena or Venus (or Ivanovic) on her half would help her... :tape:
I really believe that Maria is having some sort of mental block agains the WS :help:
she could definatelly try to slice more against them and then when a short ball appear she could attack...
but well.... in her match against Serena on Auzie she just didn't fighted at all...
and in Wimby she was like the "UE Queen"

Maria definatelly has to fix those confidence issues against the WS....

If she's somehow thinking about them then she should put them out of her mind for now and just focus on the person across the net. Take it one match at a time and only worry about Venus/Serena when she actually has to play them. That's all she can do really.

I know exactly what you mean  they don't seem to play many tournies or there injured, then there all better or still injured but will make the sacrifice & play come GS time. And no one seems to talk about this, pff, I can't wait to hear the commentators  during the tournies. oh williams this oh williams that...so what! Maria has been playing with an injured shoulder, yeah she didn't do well @ Wimbly but hey she made it to the semis at the french open...her worst surface. plus she has played less tournies than Jankovic's 20+ tournies & she's still in the top rankings, yeah Yelena is up there but does anyone think that's because she's had to play like more tournies than Maria & Justine? I mean she's played like what....what Maria & Justine have played put together??? come on now  my god....I NEED TO STOP, OK getting off my soap box now :) sorry for the ranting & raving I got a little carried away.

Come on fellow Maria fans, what do you think are my chances of seeing her play? I have tickets to Tuesday Night and Wednesday Day..

i'd probably say tuesday night would be your best bet... the william's sisters have the spotlight on monday following the althea gibson tribute thing, n i imagine they'll put maria in a night session so i think it'll be tuesday as monday is full up and wednesday is too far into the tournament not to have the defending champion play her 1st match...

thats just my opinion, not 100%...

hope you have fun and get to see maria play!!!

Well, that's what I was doing on the ticket line yesterday at the Open. I knew I wanted to get a Night ticket (because I love night matches at the Open) and a Day ticket (3 matches in Ashe plus the outside courts) and was thinking that Maria's first match will definitely be at night and hoping that Tuesday would be the best bet.

I also have tickets to the Final; let's hope we see her there that night.

True. Masha mastn't be complacent. Even though the most obvious dangers are in the top half of the draw (for a change), there are still some tough cookies in Maria's half (particularly for the Semi) - and there are always unexpected players who play out of their skins and way above their normal form. Whoever comes out of the top half will either be on top form - or else totally exhausted!

Hopefully Maria can produce her top tennis, and defend her title well :D .

Maria played about as well as I've seen her--at least, as cleanly.

That might have been 50 winners if Vinci had managed to take a couple more games. Maria was on fire.

I think she's pissed, and woe to anyone getting in her way.

Very impressive showing by Maria a few minutes ago. :clap2: She did a great job of going out there and taking care of business against an opponent she should beat. I like that she showed a backhand with some slice and a couple of lob shots. This is a great start for Maria. BTW it was nice of her to let Roberta win a game.

Yep!! like you I dont have anything against argentinos, but it just gets annoying when ESPN here wants to tell me what to watch, I mean, they think all latinamerican are automatically going to like Latin players, specially argentinos, which is not true. I personally dont like any of them. Plus, you would think that the match of the defending champion is more important than the one of a player that is going down in the rankings :fiery: but nooooo.... anyway, the important thing is that Maria won :bounce:

Her serve sucked a bit yesterday, fortunately, it didn't bother her game.

That's misleading. Her serve didn't "suck". It wasn't as hard as she can serve, but she hit some wonderful second serves, deep and into the body of Vinci. She never got in trouble on serve.

Two of her three DFs came when she was up 6-0 5-1 40-0, so it it was not an issue.

It was a comfortable win in every way.

Aug 29th, 2007, 11:37 AM
her 1st serve percentage was probably only 52%, that is not good,
3 aces/3 doubles, but 30 winners, and she had only 5 unforced errors in the whole match before that second to last game where she made 3 errors and let Roberta win.
on the other hand, speaking about Roberta Vinci, she is not as bad as looked yesterday,
just two weeks ago in Rogers Cup Roberta won against Nuria Llagostera Vives (whose career-high ranking is better than Roberta's) 6:0 6:0, and then had a setpoint against Kuznetsova.

speaking about that nasty Nalbandian who prevented people from watching Maria,
in Europe Eurosport International also showed Maria's second set only, and, I think, also C+ Eventos,
last time I checked it was still with Nalbandian.
But Sky Sports Xtra showed the whole Maria's match, I got it all recorded as mpeg2
Also, there are 5 live feeds available online, five courts streamed by Eurosport, only 6 euros for the whole tournament, the quality is very good, but those feeds have 15 minutes (!) delay - I almost missed Maria because I had Arthur Ashe streaming and it still showed an empty stadium when the match began!

Awesome starter for Maria! :bounce:

I too only saw the 2nd set because Eurosport stuck with the Nalbandian match, but Maria just wasn't letting Vinci play her game. Vinci is not a bad player, but Maria was really awesome and concentrated. Vinci was so glad to get one game - but Maria didn't lose too much concentration and finished it on serve. She didn't get a high 1st serve percentage - but that just shows she has room to get better!

Keep it going, Maria! :D

I'm agreed with your point, her serve was not bad at all as she was never in danger during the match when she was serving, but actually, I was more talking about her first serve pourcentage than her serve in general, I should have made it clear.

Ah, I see.

Yes, she wants to be 65% or better for the tournament, I should think.

I have no idea if the usopen.org serve stats are accurate now (they weren't before yesterday--Clement was shown as leading the men in aces) but Maria apparently had a 116mph serve in her first match, which is encouraging.

What I really liked was how aggressive yet clean she looked. She was not playing tentatively as she has been doing all year, nor was she tentative on her second serves. That's a good sign.

She got mad when she spilled water on her dress. LOL.

Long may it continue! Maria played well in her first match. I'd llike to see her first serve up at 70% or more. Hopefully she will keep up the standard of play and improve her serve consistency.

She's razor sharp with her groundies--I don't think I've ever seen her hit better, flatter, more purposeful shots. 30 winners to 2, that's brutal.

Serve was not as good as first round, but I was glad she didn't go conservative on the second serve. She again hit some good, penetrating 2nd serves. But yeah, she does need to get the first serve going.

Still, two games lost and no service breaks in two matches in a grand slam is just sick good!

seriously... the only reason why she's up to make so many winners is 'cause her oppos aren't putting pressure on her serve and starting to attack first

Maria must put more 1st servers in

One has to believe a precision instrument over a subjective impression, even if it is Maria. Or especially if it is Maria. How many times she was wrong with her challenges?
Almost always.
There is only one way to discard that reading: to play the recording, messure the exact duration of the ball in the air, messure/calculate the exact distance (taking into account also the hight of the ball when it is hit) and calculate the average speed.
That is probably needed for confirmation of records as well, maybe the device was malfunctioning when Roddick was serving, or Venus, or Serena, but they did not hurry to dismiss their own achievements

Maria needs that 129 mph 2nd serve, because her 1st serves barely reach 50% :(

That's a decent argument, but I've already seen Hawkeye glitch and fail in this tournament, so it isn't out of the realm of possibility that the speed gun went wacky for a minute.

Pace on serves is the most overrated stat in tennis, IMO. Placement is far more important. Mirza's 2nd in the tournament in aces. As long as Maria's getting it a decent percentage of 1st serves in, and up over 110 she's in great shape, because she places her serves as well as anyone.

New in the forum, don't know if it's the right place to post it... If not, please excuse me !
I would like to know what will be the next tournament of Maria after US Open, she didn't tell anything in her website.
Does anyone has an answer for me?
Thanks (and sorry for my bad english, I'm writing directly from France!)

I'm here to bring Masha some good luck. :D She was outclassed by Radwanska's fine all court play in the first set but there is time for Masha to turn the match around. Udachi Maria! :wavey:

Having 2 very easy matches the first 2 rounds has hurt Masha's game today. :( She wasn't ready to play tough tennis in the first set against Radwanska.

Maria's serve is terrible. But the rest of her game is tough! She just lacks confidence on her serve and focus on the key points. That's all

she's double break up in 2nd but i'm not sure if she can win this set since she never feels comfortable holding serve. Even she gets past Radwanska I don't really like her chances against Vaidisova. Is anyone watching the match? Some reports about how Maria is playing would be greatly appreciated.

As I said, her serve sucks big time :o But teh rest is actually surprisingly great. She hits (without missing that much) classic volleys, she runs well, she hits hards. BUT she's not as focused as she's used to be on key points. And Radwanska is playing great too. It's an interesting match!

Maria looked like she came out of the tunnel pretty much thinking about something else. She has not looked very interested today.

Give Radwanska credit, she had a gameplan and executed it perfectly for a set. Maria has figured her out now, I believe, and more importantly, has stopped fighting the wind, which is bad today. This is a tough match up for Maria in these conditions. Masha's a very poor wind player, always has been. Her serve is awful, ten doubles as I type this.

I think if this had been a night match, in calm conditions, Maria'd have been doing her interview by now.

Maria sucks. She should be embarrassed, ashamed, and humiliated. She is nowhere near the player she was three years ago. She has not improved at all. That other girl that nobody has ever heard of thoroughly outplayed her in every facet of the game. Maria looked more like the #102 player in the world instead of the #2 player. Her ranking is going to plummet. Maybe getting her ass kicked out of the top ten will actually make her decide to hire a real tennis coach. Maybe she will actually decide to practice her serve occasionally. Watching her serve today was actually pretty funny. She couldn't hit a second serve to save her life. It's too bad that such a promising career is going nowhere because she is too stubborn to hire a real coach, and is too dumb to be able to think her way through a match. She got her ass kicked VERY BADLY in all four grand slams this year. I can't wait to hear the excuses that everyone comes up with. This was beyond poor. This was embarrassing.

maria! what a breakdown... but congrats to radwanzska who played really well....

im pretty disgusted with yuri, it broke my heart when maria looked up at her box and saw he wasnt there.. she lost the next points on terrible forehands, probably didnt even have her mind on the match!! i hope she leaves yuri now, gets and new coach and leaves her psycho dad at home!

i really thought she was gona win, even at 42 down in the third i though ok this is where she'll pull it back... what a shame!! shows how risky it is to change a service motion in such a short space of time, but her overall play today reminded me of her form from indian wells and miami...

i hope she can come back and get to her best level again, i wouldnt mind if she took some more time off, maybe just play one event before the YEC, if she even qualifies....

she's no longer the number 2 player in the world.... if jankovic, ivanovic and kuznetsova go deep, who knows where she'll end up!!!

yeh i think avoiding GM is a good idea! lol! they must be showing their usual lack of respect...

That was the worst thing that he could probably do at a momment like this. He leaved the ship and and let Maria doen there by herself, just very bad. It's like everytime she gets thoroughly crushed, everyone just shrugs it off and says "Oh Maria, it's ok, just bounce back next tournament." The thing is, she doesn't have the game to just "bounce back" anymore. Many, many of the players have figured her out, especially this year. They have seen that Maria only knows one way to play, and that she doesn't have the game or the mentality to change. How many very very bad defeats has she suffered this year? And to players that nobody has ever heard of? And this is happening to the #2 player in the world? That is a joke. And a very bad joke. She should have won four or five grand slams by now. Everyone keeps pointing out injuries as an excuse, but every player on the tour is injured. Maria needs to hire a coach and actually practice, and quit acting like she should automatically beat every player she plays without even showing up. And there have been many, many times this year when Maria and her "fighting spirit" have failed to show up at all.

you are right and sometimes wrong....

Wrong:
- on everything you said you forgot to bring the fact that she didn't played well today
- Maria is trying to add some more variety to her game, she can do more slice than few years a go
- some great dropshots
- and she's even finally learning how to volley
- Agnes is a very good player in case you don't know and she used just the right strategy today
- was very windy today
- 5 or 4 slams?! kidding right? What is she? a Federer?? Say who did this to me, won 5 slams in 3 years counting the year that she turned pro...
Ana Ivanovic is a great player and she still hasn't got 1!!
- maria is trying to add more things to her game... and, have you ever seen Serena do a slice?! :tape: :help:

Right:

- should hire a coach!! that absolutely true!
- something deeplu mess down her confidence this year... and is since the beggining of the year, just doesn't look the same Maria to me
- that previous point goes to another thing that you're right: WHAT HAPPENED TO MARIA'S FAMOUS FIGHTER SPIRIT?! - he just appears against Patty on RG and the got lost again...
looks like one of those "mojo" things :tape: :help:
and I'm adding a new point that you wil definatelly agree with me: MARIA SHOULD SAY "DADDY YOU'RE MY FATHER AND THAT'S ALL THAT YOY ARE REAMING TO DO, FATHER IS FOR DAUGHTER AS A DECENT COACH IS FOR A TENNIS PLAYER"
seriously... I bet that she does nothing
sometimes I think that Maria is some sort of "daddy's pupet" :o

What an absolute disaster from Maria. This is a huge disappointment, especially since she was playing well heading to the US Open with the title in San Diego and making it to the semifinals in L.A. I think that Maria really needs to take an extensive break and seriously reevaluate her game, because her showings in the grand slams has gotten progressively worser. I don`t know what else to say other than that the US Open has gotten a lot less fun to watch.

She totally missed the point during the match. It's too bad cause she really could go far in this tournament, but she made many UFs today and her serve was a mess ; Agnieszka played well though.
She has never been out so early since 3 years ago, but this year isn't lousy, she did her best results at the AO and the FO all the same.

I don't know what the hell Yuri was doing when Maria was about to loose but he should be ashamed of his behavior, he earnestly can't leave his daughter like he did while the match isn't over. His conduct toward Maria and her opponent is thoroughly disrespectful and also non-fair-play.

I honestly believe the first two matches gave you some clues of the dangers she faced. She made a lot of breathtaking shots---but---her serving was not very good---which is remarkable when you only loose one game per match. She was missing so many first serves----but her second serves were good enough to compensate.

This seemed like it was an unusual mental breakdown after the 2-0 lead in the third.

She will figure some things out. I have a lot of respect for the person she is, part of which is the will to bounce back.

This was a devastating year for Masha in the grand slams. :( Maria embarrassed herself with her 4 grand slam losses this year. :o She needs to get rid of her new service motion and perhaps make changes in her team. Maria also needs to start working with a sports psychologist because I don't know if she can overcome this terrible year and bounce back next year and be a tremendous player again.

sad here!..
the shoulder needs full recovery, the reason of the recurring habit of DFs..
when that creeps, the confidence fades and UEs follow..the new serve motion also needs to be fully adopted..its yet too new of a change and its no t-shirt..
all needs patience and time..

so the bigpic points at a year of injuries (not much proper practice, the new serve motion etc..)

you can talk on and on about this match lost or that..
take todays, many things can be said..DFs, UEs, unlucky at critical pts,
the wind disadvantage when you got a high ball toss etc.
maria again beat herself today rather than her opponent actually beating her..
aga wasn't playing that surprisingly well..this is her known likely game in her
good day..normally it was nothing that maria could not handle and take care of..
she'd done so on her worse surface clay with aga playing not any differently..
it was maria giving her the chances, letting her back in it, gifting games..
sounds the paradox, but it was marias poor game controlling(!) the match but
not the other side holding the strings..many winner attempts ended as UEs that are normally cakes for maria..in the 3rd when 2-0 up too easy mistakes let aga back in the match..should've cleared the setnmatch there, that i beleive maria normally would have (again like in their previous match, first 3-0 then bagel)

anyway, maria will hold her head up..she's not lost and knows whats going on..
recover the injury for good, adopt the new serve, rest some head and come right back..
athletes do have their fluctuations esp when dealing with tough injuries..
but marias one tough gal herself..

and obviously, THIS is her year to go through..

rough times..
but gotta move on..

I know I posted it in the other thread, but I think everyone should read it.

A. RADWANSKA/M. Sharapova

6-4, 1-6, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Just talk about the last six games because it seemed like everything just fell part.
MARIA SHARAPOVA: Yeah, although I won many games in a row after losing the first and being down 1-0, you know, you'd think I'd have the momentum in the third set with a break. But I just didn't really feel that way inside of me for some reason today. You know, just going to have those kind of days where you're always trying to come through and always trying to find a way even though you don't feel like things are exactly going your way. You know, that's just what happens.

Q. Can you talk about how much of this match was about you not being there 100 percent or was it more about her just playing great?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: You got to give her a lot of credit for finishing the match and winning it. A lot of girls in her position on a big stage in a big stadium against a top player sometimes get a little nervous. She held on there, and all the credit to her for winning the match.

Q. Did you feel like you were not there this morning before the match or was it just sort of as it got underway?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: There's no excuses. It's not like today I stepped out on the wrong side of the bed or I did something differently. Like I said, I'm going to have these types of days where although I might be up a break in the third set, but it just doesn't go my way.

Q. With the serve was the wind playing a factor with the toss, and was she a little bit distracting when she's kind of dancing around?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: I don't worry about what my opponent is doing. You know, I just worry about what I have to do. The conditions were obviously different than the other two matches that I've played. But I'm not going to say I lost the match because it was windy or because she was doing something and I was not.

Q. You played her one other time this year. Is there something about her game that you think is tough for you that makes the matches closer?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: Well, it's hard to say because the last match was on clay and it was my first tournament back, you know, after being away from the game for a few months. It's difficult to say. Definitely a tough opponent. You know, she gets a lot of balls back and makes you work for the points. You know, but I mean, I have to look at today's match and see what I could have done differently in order win it. I know the mistakes I made. But today I just made those mistakes and you just hope that next time it doesn't happen.

Q. After the first set, did you adjust your game at all because you came out so strong in the second set?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: Yeah. I mean, I guess I stepped in the court a little bit more. But even though -- I just -- I don't know. I don't feel like I had that belief that I usually do. I don't know whether I put a lot of pressure on myself coming into this event, because I felt like I was starting to play a lot better. I felt like physically -- I felt really good. You know, I felt healthy. Yeah, I don't know. It was just -- it's tough to say.

Q. Did you feel upset that the audience applauding your opponents?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: I mean, she was an underdog coming into the match, and you have to understand that the underdog is the girl that's playing well against the top players are always going get applause. That's part of the game. That is normal in any sport.

Q. How is your shoulder?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: It's fine.

Q. Given how well you struck the ball in the first two rounds, didn't you think maybe at some point in the third set your feeling for the ball would come back?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: You would think so, yeah. You wait for it, yeah. It just wasn't there. Like I said, you always try to find a way to, you know -- even though I won a lot of consecutive games, even though I was up a break, I just didn't feel -- I don't know if it was a combination of the circumstance or the wind or the opponent playing well. I don't know what it was. I just didn't quite feel like me out there.

Q. What's the emotion now, the defending champion and sort of an earlier exit than you wanted?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: It's always tough. No matter if you lose in the semis, whatever round it is. But especially being the defending champion, it's tough. Definitely not an easy day at the office for me. But, you know, it's -- I could sit here all day long and come up with excuses and say how bad I played. But at the end of the day my opponent won the match and I lost it. Better go on from here. Clearly it hasn't been my best year. Just hasn't been my year. But that's the way things go. I got take the good and I got take the bad and I got move on, just keep working hard, and someday the work that I did before this tournament, beginning of the year, whenever it was, it's going to pay off. I'm not worried about that.

Q. Have you ever had an opponent move that far up close to the service line on your second serves?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: It's really not about what the opponent does because the ball's in your hands. It's up to you to go out there and serve. I don't usually don't think about where my opponent's standing or not.

Q. We asked her about that, and she said Maria Sharapova didn't like it, did that as a tactic to try to throw you.
MARIA SHARAPOVA: It will be interesting to see if she does it again next time I play her.

Q. Your dad left after 5-3 in the third set.
MARIA SHARAPOVA: No, he didn't. He was there.

Q. At that point, did you pretty much know at the change that nothing's working for me?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: Throughout the match, like I said, it just didn't, you know, it didn't feel steady. You know, whether -- but, I mean, until the last point is played, you can't really think negatively. You know, no matter how bad things are going, you'll always try to be positive about it, even though it was quite difficult to be.

Q. What did you your father tell you after the match?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: You know, I just talked to my team a little bit. It's tough to say because it's not like they're going to say, You should have hit this or you should have done that. You know, it's tough to correct something a few minutes after you just lost a match. Like I said, you just to have move on. I have a whole future ahead of me. I'm not going throw myself a pity party here.

Q. How long does it take to you recover?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: We'll see. Every loss is difficult. But I don't know. I'll tell you at the next tournament. It's tough to say.

Q. Despite all your off court success, you've always been very good at directing yourself, and you enjoy the winning so much on the court. Does a campaign like this year make you feel even more that hunger going forward?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: In the future, you mean?

Q. Yeah.
MARIA SHARAPOVA: Sure. That's what I play for. I play to go in the Grand Slams and compete, and I've done it before and I've won two and I know I can do it again. There is no doubt about it. Just because today things didn't go my way and I lost, I'm not going to put my head down and think that I know that that's it. Could have easily gone my way today. She could have started playing worse or I could have played better, but today was just today. I've got to forget it. I'm looking forward to next year. This year is not done. There's no Grand Slam this year, but, you know, I still have a few tournaments to play. There's always years to come.

Q. Does she have what it takes to win a major do you think?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: Well, you know, I think with experience, experience is definitely going to her with every year. She's going to grow as a player. She's going to be -- her game will become more mature. She'll improve a lot things in her game, you know, her serve. I definitely think her second serve is her weakness right now. I'm sure as she plays more tougher matches she'll learn and she'll be a better playing. For sure she has that chance. See if she takes it or not.

Q. What happened to your second serve today?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: I mean, it's a combination of everything. Like I said, what happened to all my shots today? I could sit here and try to think, What happened? I could blame the wind and blame my opponent, but I'm not going to find reasons why one shot didn't work today and her shots did.

Q. When pro tennis was really getting started, it was so much about the tennis. It's really grown into such a massive industry and entertainment and the glamour side. When you were growing up, did you ever anticipate how much the emphasis would be on the business side and the exposure and all the great opportunities? Do the players just take this for granted now, that it's really a business?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: Well, once you get on court, for a tennis player, it is all about the tennis. But I mean, you have to realize that people see you as entertainers. When you go to a concert and you see someone perform, you paid your money to see someone perform and see them do what they do best. That's why you spent the amount of money you did on that ticket. So you realize, I mean, when you're growing up I had no idea what would come with -- you don't know what's going to come with a tennis career. You don't know what's going to come with fame until you actually get there and those things come to you and you actually explore them. But you really don't know until you actually get there. There's a whole other world to it.

Q. Your comfortable that though right, and being a role model?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: Well, it's tough being a role model, because when I was growing up I never really had a role model because I never thought that anyone was perfect. So it's tough to hear when kids do say that, you know, I want to be like Maria Sharapova. I say, No you don't. Because I'm not perfect. You know, I might be good at some things but I might not be good at other things. You want to strive for the best. You want to try to be the best. So, you know, so that's what's a little strange is that when kids do come up to me and say, I want to be just like you. I'm like, Okay.

Q. What are you not perfect at?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: There are a few things, but I'll keep them to myself.

Q. There were rumors that you're thinking about not playing for Russia anymore and playing for U.S.; is that true?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: That's not true.

Q. Do you feel shocked a little bit?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: No.

Q. What's the feeling overall going on inside you right now?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: It's disappointment. There's no happiness, I'll tell you that. I mean, look, at the end of the day it really is a just tennis match. You know, some days you win and some days you lose. Some days you lose in the finals and some days you lose in the third round and some days you lose in the first round. You just never know how it's going to play out. Sometimes you work really hard for something and you get it when you want it, and sometimes you work really hard and you don't get it. You never know when God's going to bring down those gifts. So I'm waiting for those Christmas gifts.

its not the shoulder stopped/stopping her in any one particular match or this one..i don't think anyone blamed it on one particular thing for this particular match anyway..
but its the year overall she'd gone thru because of that..injuires, basically..takes its toll at times..
maria never blames it on one particular this or on one particular that anyway..in a bad day and against an opponent on her good day it all could comeout and show (meaning the damage the year and its done on maria)
and if anyone thinks that her surprisingly bad results have nothing to do with the bad year she had to go thru because of lingering injuries and lack of proper practice (which to some do seem to be the reason taking it out on her at times) hey then again its just fine!..no need for indecent judgements on other fans..
debate is a debate, post is a post, opinions are opinions..

anyway..
gotta move on..

I cant believe it, Im so upset this has to be the worst loss of her career at thye slm level. I think its time to end the season and work hard to get ready for 2008 and tio forget this year ever existed. I think I need a break from this place, 2007 has stressed me out too much.

Well, just quite shocked. Although I'm not crazily surprised cos this year isn't really Maria's year. But I think we can use some positivity and optimism over here right? Maria is a tough girl, she'd figure out what to do. The thing is not to lose that belief on her.

I feel the same damn way  I don't think I can stand to read anything about Maria right now & I think I'm more concerned about this "I just wasn't feeling it today" attitude than an injury thing. Im mean she did her interview with such class but she just looked so freakin sad. & I loved the fact that she does not consider or want to consider herself a role model...saying she's "not perfect". I guess I'm going to just keep thinking & looking foward to the charity event that she is doing with Andy Roddick that im going to in Dec. and I hope that she either takes a break for a while & comes back better for 2008....damn 2007 isn't even over yet........f**k, let me just get the hell out of here....im gonna go watch her 2006 US Open win....cheer myself up ;)

Well said MMF. But the meek and weak way Masha has played in her 4 grand slam losses this year is what's most disturbing to me. She was crushed by Serena in Oz, pounded by Ivanovic at Roland Garros, Venus routined Masha at Wimbledon and Masha folded against Radwanska today in the thrid set and played like a scared junior. :scared: I never saw such a terrible 2007 on the horizon for Masha after such a good 2006. She really needs to fix her serve and make it effective again. I aslo think Maria needs to take some time off and re-evaluate her game and the team around her.

seriously buddie?!
you're right in parts IMO

Games do pisss you off more than cheer you up, but it's a matter of how big they do cheer you up on those litle occasions that you get a win or pass a hard phase
like once that I was playing tennis here and seriously.. I must have tried more than 25 times to defeat a boss there with Nadal and I got soooo pissed that I keeped trying till I get it
once I defeat him is like all my angry time was passed and I just felt really good

but of course you can always go on GTA and just have fun
it's a matter of which game you play... what you looking for
I'm a very persistent and a person that likes to start and finish things so usually I go for those games that you have loads of missions and stuff like that
really helps me is like a vocation for my mind...

Well I just woke up and I didn't had the time yesterday to check the update.
So you'll understand that this isn't the funniest way to wake up.
What a disappointing loss for Masha, well I can say a lot of other things, but it's clearly not her year and I'm confident there's a lot of good things coming her way in the future, so I will just look forward to that.
For now it's better to just say nothing at all.

 to Masha and all her fans.

It is shocking for Maria to lose such an important match to a scrub like Radwanska!

This is Maria's worst loss in a Slam since before she won Wimbledon. And such a bad way to lose. I feel really bad about this. Not only does she lose her title, she goes down in the rankings at best to No 4. She'll even lose the Russian No1 to kuznetsova - who once again benefits from a wide-open draw!

Not many positives here at all. Hopefully Maria can salvage something of 2007 in the indoor tournaments

Perhaps Maria needs some fresh talent on the coaching side. I don't recommend a break from playing though. Since this would just drop her ranking out of the top 4, and lose her match toughness. Maria needs to get back in the water and win a couple of titles in the Autumn season if possible

Well, the only word that comes to my mind is disappointing. Maria had a perfect draw to reach the final but she failed to take advantage of it. What's even more disappointing is the style in which she was playing. She had beaten in brilliant style Vinci and Dellacqua and then this happened :(
That serve is still bad and she really needs to work on it :tape:

Anyway people, losses happen and I'm sure Maria will bounce back earlier than we think :)

Btw I hope that none of you acted like Sweet Cleopatra after Maria's loss

everyone should learn that when Maria lost YOU MUST AVOID GM!!
