The draw looks pretty favorable for Makiri. If she can continue her good play as of late, i can see her at least getting to the quartefinals.

Muller is a tricky player, but the way Maria is playing now, she should get past her.

Good luck Maria!

Pretty nice draw. I could defiantly see her making the quarters witht his draw. Bartoli could be tough but I think Makiri can get through that again. First thing's first though she has to beat Muller, which with the way she's playing shouldn't be a problem. Good luck Maria!

Müller on clay better player than on hardcourt. The germany athlete's never give up!
Müller also very persistently fight!
Therefore for Maria very patiently and cleverly have to play, that she surely win!
I wish they would good play Maria and would succeed again reach to quarterfinal.

A bit of a surprise to see Makiri and Severine teaming up. I was hoping that we would get to see more Dulenko. Still i wouldn`t mind some Kirimond. Hopefully they can get a win or two.

I just wanted to chime in and say that I'm SO delighted by Kirilenko's resurgence this summer (see signature). Also, as I'm watching her match in livescore, I'm so impressed with her serving statistics. She's on fire today.

She won 6/1 - 6/3 ! Maria played really good despite that Muller didn't play great tennis . Good luck against Bartoli, now we know she can beat her

A nice convincing win Makiri! Good luck in the next round against Bartoli! I wish you played doubles with Dulko instead of Bremond. Maybe Gisela had some bad blood with you beating her in L.A. last week??? Oh well, at least you can just focus on your singles play instead. FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

Things are looking good for Makiri right now. I'm not disappointed with the doubles result, she can focus on singles now. Hope she is over the problems with the blisters! Just a shame she has Ana and Justine in her half of the draw. I don't fear anyone in the other half.

I think Makiri has now won 7 out of 9 singles matches and the really pleasing thing is that only Jankovic has taken her to 3 sets. My worry is that she must be due a bad match sometime.

As for Bartoli, I'm not convinced about her conditioning. Last week the 1st set went to a tie-break which Makiri won. I'm fairly sure if Maria wins the 1st set she'll win the match. She can wear down Bartoli with her persistent ground-strokes. Saying that, maybe Marion is due a return to form.

Maria retired today after being down 2-6 1-2*. The blisters she had last week are the probably culprit.

Aug 16th, 2007, 11:51 AM
I hope Masha was playing it safe and retired from the match against Bartoli because of some knee discomfort and because she lost the first set and figured it wouldn't be worth possibly playing a long match with some knee pain. But she has had problems with her knees the last couple of years and that's a major concern for me because if Maria can't run well and defend the court to the best of her ability then that cripples her as a tennis player. :( I hope she's fine for the U.S. Open and that resting her knee and receiving treatments on it is all she needs to do.

Tim_Danielafan6
Aug 18th, 2007, 07:05 AM
poor thing she deserves good things, she was once number 20 and shes so capable of getting herself back in there again, so many set backs with injuries for alot of players this year, shes had such a good harcourt series, hopefully all is fine, the poor thing, she definately could of beaten bartoli if she was back to what she was last week, and i could of definately seen her making a semi

Kirilenko_Kamp
Aug 19th, 2007, 12:00 AM
It's alright Makiri... You just rest your weary little body, take care of your knee, and that lingering problem with the blisters on your feet. At least you get a chance heal up, re-energize yourself, and get ready for the 2007 USO! Good luck Makiri at Flushing Meadows!:D
