Lucie has to play first Round vs Russian Olga Pouchkova...

Lucie Safarova [16] vs Olga Poutchkova (RUS)
Camille Pin (FRA) vs. Ai Sugiyama (JPN)
Jamea Jacksoin (WC-USA) vs. Qualyfigher, Lucky Loser
Ana Ivanovic (3-WC) - bye

This draw seems better than what she had in San Diego. Poutchkova's struggling, and Lucie has beaten Sugiyama, though she can be very tough. Even Ivanovic, though as talented as Lucie, matches up better for Lucie than steady, tireless Jankovic.

With steadier serving, heavy topspin on the forehand more often for some variety, and above all, consistent returns of serve, her opponents will be falling.

But one match at a time -- especially with Lucie! :D

Lucka has a good shot to reach 3rd round. Ivanovic is tough but she is coming from injury break and even though her fans claim she doesn't need any matches under her belt to play well I have my doubts about it.

I said she would easily make it through her first few rounds last week, so I won't say the same thing this week, but I am confident at least. :p

I would love to see Lucie play Ana, I do hope it happens. If Lucie plays her game, she has a serious shot at the upset. I can't say I will be rooting for if that match does happen though.

Lucie is through to the second round after a 7-5 6-2 win over Poutchkova. :)

Considering Poutchkova's results have been dire for a while, this win could have been more resounding. But a win's a win! Especially since Berdych was upset in Montreal earlier today.

Lucie's serve started rusty; she was down 1-4 in the first set and a break down at the opening of the second. These kind of deficits have been regular this year, but she's often been fighting out of them.

Lucie picked up serious momentum at the end, winning the last six games. Here's hoping she carries it over into the next match! :D

I couldn't follow this match on scoreboard therefore I really appreciate your summary. Thanks :)

I was there at the match cheering for Lucie all throughout. Not only was she kind enough to take a photo with me, but she also chatted with me for a short bit.

Thanks Sir, for the pics in the other thread, too.

Lunaris, I thought you were in Prague -- now you're in obscurity? Well, sex, drinks, and metal are probably fun there too!

Ai Sugiyama is next up for Lucie. Camille Pin managed to ace Ai  in their first round encounter, so I implore Lucie to keep the serve in and place it well! :D

i under-estimated kirilenko, but i won't be making the same mistake twice.

sugiyama can be very tough. but if lucie plays her game she should win.

come on. i want a good week.

Lucka ousted Sugiyama 6-3 6-4. :D
The Japanese saved 16/21 breakpoints. :bolt:
Next most probably is Ivanovic. I believe it will be close. This is neither clay nor Montreal with slow surface.

:D Awww yeah -- Lucie is through to the third round!

A win there and I'll break out the bouncing smiley face.

I have little doubt she can beat Harkleroad, but this Ivanovic has some serious game. ;)

Nice win. :) Her serve needs to improve before she plays Ana, however. Good luck, Lucka, all I have to say is: If you do win, please don't blow your fourth round, TTC coverage doesn't start until the quarters. ;)

:tape: Oops.

well that wasn't even close to happening anyway. :tape:

what an awful loss. she usually plays better at slams, so let's hope she peaks there. :)

Unfortunately she's going through a little rough patch right now. Hopefully she picks up her play for the US Open.

Every player that's an up-and-coming has a rough patch. All she'll need is to pull one big upset to get back her rythym.
