Davaļ Makiri !

Jul 21st, 2007, 06:34 PM
So, we shall play with Victoria Azarenka. It is possible to tell, one not from easy competitors. From it it is possible to expect everything, everything, especially it plays more stably, than Maria. (can look at victories and defeats in this season and all becomes clear:help: ). But all I trust, that Makiri can win since experience of game with Azarenka already was.
Good luck Maria!!! :bounce:

Kirilenko in 3 sets ! :yeah:

Jul 22nd, 2007, 01:07 AM
Good luck Makiri! You need to play with some urgency now. No more dilly-dallying in the 1st round. You can't afford another early- round exit ok?

She needs to start putting some ranking points on the board. Maria has dropped to #45, and Vika now occupies Maria's old spot.

Come on Maria!!!

What a great tough win for Makiri. :clap2: She really showed a lot of toughness, which is much needed IMO, by saving those 3 MPs to help send it to a third set. I really hope this win will start some positive momentium for Makiri.

Jul 24th, 2007, 11:10 PM
Great win Maria! Good luck in the second round!

Jul 24th, 2007, 11:20 PM

I still can't get over 272 points in one match. Man, that sounds like a ton.

Srebotnik is next with an extra day of rest. Will Maria be able to walk to the court tomorrow?

These two faced each other in Zurich last year where Srebotnik won 3 and 2, quite handily. I hope this time, she doesn't get drubbed.

Jul 25th, 2007, 12:00 AM
The important thing is that she won a titanic battle against a higher ranked player. 3 weeks ago she would have lost this match. If she loses the match against Srebotnik its nothing to cry over. The win against Vika must surely have boosted her confidence in closing out matches. But she has to keep the same mental focus from here on in.

The end of the season will show if she is regaining her form or not.

What an awesome win, well done Maria, that should inject some confidence back into her.

Jul 25th, 2007, 02:26 PM
:wavey: Would somebody have the video of the match ? If it diffused ...

Jul 25th, 2007, 02:58 PM
Congrats Makiri! Great win and a big boost in her confidence. Hopefully, this match didn't take alot out of her and she'll have enough fuel in the tank to take out Srebotnik in the 2nd round. Good luck Makiri! Let's keep the victory momentum rolling on!

Jul 25th, 2007, 03:06 PM
According to William Hill, she is 21/20 to win this match, so a very slight outsider against a player ranked much higher. Not bad considering she had 3 hours play yesterday. Obviously someone has faith in her!

Jul 25th, 2007, 03:16 PM
Nice win for her :) good luck Makiri

Jul 25th, 2007, 08:10 PM
congrats makiri!!! hope she'll keep playing like this!

Well the match has just ended and sadly Makiri lost 0-6, 6-7(5). This is such a letdown after yesterday`s great win. It`s more of the same ole song and dance with Makiri. :(

Jul 26th, 2007, 12:36 AM
F... Off :banghead:

Jul 26th, 2007, 12:44 AM

Maria served at a much lower percentage than yesterday. All the double faults were in the first set, including two in a row to lose the set. She didn't double fault in any of the clutch serving moments in the second set, which is a good sign. She seems to be playing the big points much cleaner. There are no stats of winners or UEs so you can't tell how good the quality of play was.

Just a pity she couldn't extend this to three sets. I wonder how much she would have left in the tank then.

Jul 26th, 2007, 01:37 AM
Mariaa...what happend?:(:(

Jul 26th, 2007, 07:52 AM
unlucky maria the first set was disapointing but the second set whent to a tie break which could have gone either way and who knows what would have happened if she won the second set tie break :(

Jul 26th, 2007, 10:45 AM
After the huge battle on tuesday (3 hours) I think it may hae been asking too much. Has she been playing doubles? I mean doubles may be good practice but if I were her I'd focus on the singles for the moment, till she gets her form back.

I watch a lot of football and you tend to find with a team that has to play a game shortly after a really tough match that they look lethargic in the first half and play better in the second half. So 6-0 7-6 may not be such a surprise. A few points away from going to 3 sets against a higher ranked player after a marathon effort on tuesday.

You have to stay positive!

Kirilenko is worse than Kournikova. At least Kournikova had offcourt buzz.

Kirilenko is worse than Kournikova. At least Kournikova had offcourt buzz.

What planet are you from?

Jul 26th, 2007, 05:46 PM
Uh Kournikova actually made the top 10. What is the highest Kirilenko has been ranked? Doubles, which is where Kirilenko seems headed, Kournikova has more doubles titles. They are both bad but Kirilenko is worse.

Jul 27th, 2007, 04:06 AM
At least Makiri has a singles title to her credit which Kournikova failed to ever achieve. And yes Makiri has a couple of doubles titles under her belt also. Remember, it didn't hurt Anna's chances having Hingis as her doubles partner back then who was in her prime and was ranked #1. So that had something to do with Kournikova's success in doubles. Just remember that. Now back to the Srebotnik match. At least Makiri fought hard in pushing the 2nd set into a tie breaker. Most players would go away after being bagled in the 1st set. So, kudos to Makiri in giving the effort to try to get back in the match.

I wouldn't mind some of whatever you are drinking Pepsi. If you want to write off Kirilenko as another Kournikova, why don't you just write off every other 20 year old player who hasn't made it into the top 10.

I'm amazed how quickly some fans like to write players off. Give her a chance for a couple of seasons at least! And as for your point about off court buzz - if you prefer a vain celebrity wannabe always drawing attention to herself, why not support someone else?
