Paris, FRA - Welcome to Paris! And the second Grand Slam on the ATC, so far we've had French players dominating, winning 5 of the first 7 events on the tour, can they keep the fans happy with a French win here at RG? Or will someone else snatch GS glory? It should be a great event, so keep it here!

Draw Posted - Sunday 18:00 CET

Points Deadline - Tuesday 18:00 CET

NB - Please also start sending Grass points, I want everyone to be ready to go once the grass season starts :p

Player Of The Week

http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/1516/fulljgetty74163283dm014xr9.jpg

Michaella Krajicek

She won it just two weeks ago, but again Misa Krajicek is the POTW :yeah: With no aces, she beat THREE players with 2 or more aces in Strasbourg :worship: And she gets an extra ace to use at RG ;)

Despite a blip in Strasbourg, Marion remains the favourite for the title, her ultra-aggressive gameplan has worked brilliantly on this surface, she's taken full advantage of her 4 aces, something that several other players haven't done, and she'll be a tough opponent for anyone, Anabel is full of confidence following a win in Strasbourg, but as we saw in the later rounds, she is still vulnerable, but I fully expect her to go deep once more, and finally there's Dechy, she knows what it takes to win a Slam, and this is her best surface, so watch out.

The Contenders

Both Anna and Domi have done some damage this clay season, both will need to take a few more risks to win big, but they definitely have the game to trouble anyone, and with both of them being unseeded, the big names will be keen to avoid them in the first round, as for Severine, she may only have 1 ace, but she understands the game well, and with a new strategy, could make a run.

Chakvetaze Ready for Roland Garros
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k89/xXxPosterGirlxXx/AnnaChakvetadze06.jpg

Anna Chakvetadze is looking forward to Roland Garros, her favourite Grand Slam of the year. "I'm so glad to be here in Paris, it's a great place, great people and great sights. I just arrived here yesterday, and have had a few practises but nothing to heavy. I have had a good clay season, and I think I'm ready to go far here. Maybe even a final or win. I know I'm ready, and I just want to prove it here."
The Russian rose to 9th in the world after he good showings in her last two events "I played very well in Rome and Strasbourg, getting to the semi's in both the singles events. I also won the doubles title in Strasbourg with Ashley Harkleroad, that was my last competitive match on clay, so I'm coming here on a win, and very confident that I can go far here. Ninth in the world, is a great achievement, and number one in doubles. I hope I can climb higher after this week, we will see."
The 20 year old plays Maria Sharapova, another Russian in the first round. "I don't think clay is Maria's best surface, so that will work well for me. I'm confident I can win, so I hope I can prove it. Also I'm looking to go far in doubles, I think Ash and I can win it, we have improved a lot over the last couple of weeks on clay, and we are starting to get used to it."
Chakvetadze plays her first round match on Tuesday, "I'm looking forward to it, it's my first time playing Roland Garros, so it will be a great experience for me, and I hope I can go far in both events."

Williams Not Optomistic About Chances At The French

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/505/Venus40.jpg

"I just got the worse draw possible. Everyone I play in the first two rounds has 3 or more aces and that won't help me any here in Paris. Despite that, I'll play my hardest and try to stay seeded for the remainder of the season."

Miracle on Center Court: Kirilenko wins a clay match

http://tennis-buzz.com/wp-content/kirilenko_adidas1.JPG

Unseeded Russian Maria Kirilenko won her first career match on clay today, upsetting #8 seed and fellow Russian Anastasia Myskina in three sets.

"Oh Thank God, honestly" said Kirilenko, post match. "I've had a bit of some bad luck with my draws the last three weeks, narrowly losing to three clay court specialists in a row. I knew I had a chance today because Anastasia doesn't like the clay so much, and I was able to pull out a close one for once", Kirilenko added.

"You know, after all the tears these past three weeks, this is a validating win and gives me some confidence going into grass. I'm just going to try to salvage my pathetic ranking this week as much as possible."

Up next for Maria is American Ashley Harkleroad, who won comfortably in straight sets today. Maria had some choice words when asked about the fact that Ashley topped Maria for title of "ATC's Biggest Hottie 2007".

"Umm, I'd like to know who ran this "poll", if you'd even like to call it that. It's clearly Rubbish. I'm like a Grand Slam in terms of Beauty.. Ash is more like some random $10,000 satelitte in the countryside of Australia or something. I mean, if the title is "Biggest" Hottie.. well, let me tell you, those hips don't lie, Ash. Congratulations. I'll send you some edible flowers.", Maria remarked.

When asked to comment on the actual match coming up, Maria said: "It's going to be a challenge, for sure... I'm trying my best on clay, but I just don't really have the weapons for this surface. Ashley is much more comfortable here, but I'm going to have to fight for every point".

http://img490.imageshack.us/img490/4536/sharafterthematchye9.pnghttp://img490.imageshack.us/img490/3057/chashauz7.jpg

ATC newcomer 20 year-old Maria Sharapova wins her first ever match in this circuit by defeated fellow Russian Anna Chakvetadze with a score 7-5 6-1.

In the first set, Maria got a slow start, Anna broke her 2 times in the opening 4 games and lead 4-0.Then Maria fighted back and broke Anna twice and they tied 4-4.And they both held serve in the next 2 games and tied with 5-5.After that, Maria held serve and led 6-5, in the next game, Anna hit some unforced errors and the score of the game became 0-40, but then Anna fighted back to deuce. But at last Maria took the first set with a double faults from Anna.

In the second set, it became easy, Maria broke Anna a several times and led 5-1. In the last sevice game, Maria downed 0-30. But at last maria won thematch with 2 Aces in a row.About the match maria told us"It's amazing! I won a match! Anna is a good player but today i can know all the attcks from her because she hits too many unforced errors and i know it's not the real of her. She can be very tough but i still very happy because of this match."About her next oppoment number 3 seed Anabel Medina Garrigues, Maria told us"She is a good clay player, she always hit some topspin and she move fast on clay but i still lokking forward to this match and try my best."Maria and her doubles partner Anastasia Myskina receive a bye in the doubles draw and next they will face number 2 seed Justine Henin and Alicia Molik.

Lucie Rededicates to Tennis
http://www.luciesafarova.net/gallery/2007/estorilopen2007/lucie15.jpg
Lucie Safarova has recently had mediocre results and many people started wondering, "What happened to the bright young star that made a semifinal and final in her 2nd and 3rd events?" Lucie Safarova says this slump was caused by lack of concentration. "I haven't been totally dedicated here lately. I've had some family issues going on behind the scenes that many people don't know about. I don't really like to discuss my personal life with the public. But now, these personal issues are starting to deminish and I'm devoting my life back to tennis. I don't know if I'll win Roland Garros this year, but I could win it in the future," Lucie said with a grin. Lucie's quarterfinal match is against Elena Dementieva who is ranked #10. Lucie goes in the match as the favorite being ranked #7 and with an extra ace on the slippery surface, but as we all know in tennis: anything can happen.

Krajicek shocks World No.1...Again!

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/3171/fullj_getty-tennis-fra-roland-garros-krajicek-williams_1_29_01_pm.jpg

Michaella Krajicek continues her impressive run on clay and reaches her first quarterfinal in a grand slam by defeating World No.1 Nathalie Dechy in three sets 4-6,6-4,6-3 in Roland Garros.

Both players started off the match pretty even.Krajicek was broken first in the seventh game and the Frenchwoman went on to win the first set 6-4.However,the Dutch lass claimed the second set with the same margin and the match went to a deciding set.Krajicek used all her skills to keep on her form and successfully closing out the match after 2 hours and 16 minutes with an ace.

"Oh my!I wouldn't believe this is happening to me.This is my second victory against her in our two meetings. She was a finalist in last week's event. So I actually expected a similar match as our first encounter.Wow!I'm almost speechless right now,"said the World No. 16 in disbelief.

"I'm going to meet Flavia next, another player who also plays well on clay. She beat Venus and Dominika as well on her last two matches.I will definitely try my best to topple another player on her best surface, though I believe she will win it.But we'll see."said Krajicek on her quarterfinal opponent.

Krajicek Into Semis!!!

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/3171/fullj_getty-tennis-fra-roland-garros-krajicek-williams_1_28_42_pm.jpg

Another upset victory over Italian Flavia Pennetta 7-5,6-4 leads Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands into her second consecutive semifinals and her first semifinal in a grand slam-Roland Garros.

Pennetta broke the Dutch's serve immediately on the first game to love when Krajicek seemed to be very nervous in her first quarterfinal of a grand slam.Krajicek was trying very hard to hold her serve but got broken again in her third service game. Her Italian opponent then was 5-2 up in the first set and was serving for the match. However,Krajicek suddenly gained her momentum from where she beat the World No.1 and started to make a comeback. She saved one set point and broke Pennetta's serve.Krajicek later won another 4 games to close out the first set.

In the second set,the World No. 16 went on to win 3 games in a row and was having a 4-1 lead but the Italian also showed her determination and crawled back to level the set at 4 all.The gutsy Dutch wouldn't let her opponent to take advantage of her and immediately broke the Italian's serve in the ninth game and fired 2 aces on her own service game before setting up 2 match points. The match ended just over 2 hours after the World No.11 played her forehand wide.

"What should I say again? As I mentioned in the previous interview,I said I would try my best to defeat her and I eventually did it!Although I won in straight sets but it was more intense than the scoreline suggests.Flavia was also playing well. She actually was on the verge of winning the first set but she kinda lack of focus from that moment on and I just played everything I could. It was an unbelievable task to comeback from 2-5 and then won eight games in a row."said Krajicek about her match against Pennetta.

"I also was having some concentration problems later in the middle of the second set and Pennetta also did what I did to her(laugh) and equalled the match.I really had butterflies in my stomach throughout the whole match but I calmed myself down and tried to focus much more and now I'm in the semis!I am ecstatic at the moment.I really never think of reaching a semifinal of a grand slam, yet alone on my worst surface."continued the Dutch.

"I'll face Ashley(Harkleroad) next in my match.I never played her before but I think she's a very good player as she also wins the big players and she has very good results playing 3 set matches. As usual,I'll play my best tennis out there and make as many upsets as I could(laugh).I do hope I can make 2 more steps and achieve the impossible."replied Krajicek on her chances for her next round match.

LA PREUVE DE CONTRAIRE

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/3116/b_g_bartoli1_0601.jpg
Marion Bartoli prooved her critics wrong after powering into the Roland Garros SF.

World number 5 Marion Bartoli of France continued her climb towards a first grand slam title and the world's number 1 ranking with a gritty straight sets win over talented Spaniarde Lourdes Dominguez Lino, 6-4 7-5.

Bartoli raced out to a 4-0 lead as the fiery Dominguez Lino rallied back to win 4 straight games and level the match before Bartoli held serve in a demonstration of her perfect concentration in front of a roaring home crowd. Clinching the set 6-4. Lino fought back hard in the second set and went up the early break 1-2 before leading 5-3 and looking good to take the second set when she lost her nerve and Bartoli looked visibly heartened and won the next four games in a row to take the match 6-4 7-5 in just under two hours.

"To win a match like this and secure my place in the semifinal is an enormous honour for me and i'm so excited to be here, the last Frenchwomand standing in our home tournament!!"

Bartoli has listed her biggest inspiration this year as turning around a 1/3 season to win 11 matches in a row and two titles at Amelia Island and BNL Rome.

"I always knew that I could do it but after I beat two top ten players in straight sets and delivered two double bagels (two Krajicek and Paszek) I started to believe completely in myself and in the tennis that I play!"

In the SF Marion will take on world number 7 Lucie Safarova, the pairs first meeting.

"I've never played her but I know she's a tough competitor and she's had a good year so far, so anything is possible in this match."

The duo will play for the chance to verse either Marion's Strasbourg conquerer, Ashley Harkleroad, or inform Dutch player Michaella Krajicek who shocked favorite and number 1 seed Nathalie Dechy in the R16.

"Well,I am already very satisfied with my achievement so far.Thank god I'm given the chance to play in the semifinals. It's definitely quite sad when you're a couple of steps closer to winning something. However,as you all have seen,I've played my best in the match.I didn't feel any regret for sure. It's just Ashley is the better player today. She took every opportunity she had and played exceptionally well.Congratulations Ashley! All the best in the final against Bartoli.Hope you'll help me avenge my double bagel loss against her.(laugh)"

"My next plan is to be prepared for grass season.Grass is one of my favourite surface,so I hope I am able to maintain my form and play well throughout the season of course. But now,I still have doubles match to play with Shahar in the semis also.So I hope I can make myself proud by winning the doubles if possible."

Dechy statement

'I shouldnt have played here. My coach has been away for most of the clay season and I didnt know what to do. I only played because I won the Australian and wanted to continue my win streak at slams and because it was at home in France. I wasnt even at 50% - had I been here in top form I would have kicked there huge fat arses. I wont play the first week of the grass but he will be back after that and I will be back bitches'
