Did you guys read Lleyton Hewitt's interview? I counted 91!!! "you know" 's. Someone else counted 93, but I'm thinking he might have counted a couple in the questions. There was at least one SENTENCE where he said "you know" FOUR times! There were at least two sentences where he said it three times. And there were several with two "you know" 's, including some sentences with "you know", (insert name or word), "you know".

I thought this was kind of funny so I looked at some of his other interviews. On the semifinal interview I counted 68 "you know" 's. Again, several times with three in just one sentence. In the 2nd interview there were 36 (it was a significantly shorter interview), and 53 in his fourth round interview.

Did Lleyton always have the "you know" problem or is this a fairly new thing? I don't normally read his interviews, so maybe I just never noticed before. To think, that I used to comment on Kafelnikov's "you know" 's and "definitely" 's. ( he had 32 "you know's" in his third round interview)

Compare that to Jennifer who "only" had 18 "you know" s in her first interview, 5 in her second interview, 16 in her third interview, 15 in her fourth interview, and 16 in her quarterfinal interview. Granted, her interviews weren't always as long as Lleyton's, but she still had significantly fewer "you know's" in all her interviews than Lleyton did in his relatively short 2nd round interview (and Kafelnikov's interview), and unlike Lleyton, she kept her "you know" s to 1 per sentence for the most part, and often went three or four sentences without saying it. At one point, she managed to string together a whopping 9 sentences without saying "you know". Taking all this into account, I'm wondering if maybe Jennifer's gotten a bum rap when it comes to her interviews.

Though to be fair, both Lleyton and Yevgeny are certainly more articulate between the "you know" s than Jennifer and tend to have more substantive things to say.

(and, yes, I do realize that I need to get a life)

I think that he just doesn't like talking to the media, hence his poor articulation. Ya know? ;)

the players are not trained public speakers, the interview/media process is a bi product of them playing a sport, not the objective of it. Give them a rest if they are not all shakespeares and austins

Still this was a funny post, Jenn certainly seems to cop a lot of crap for her articualtion (or lack there of;) )...nice to see other players have the "you know" bug as well.

I'm only guessing, but Lleyton (and for that matter, most of the top tennis players) say "you know" all the time, simply because they are talking to sports reaporters, that should know what they are talking about...

But still, it's very funny to see. :)
