Obviously, Raymond/Stubbs, Williams/Williams, and Hingis/Kournikova are formidable doubles teams, but who do you think is the best individual doubles player on tour? Who would you want to partner with if your life depended on it?

Serena is dominating.
Venus can't be lobbed.
Hantuchova is the next doubles star.
Kournikova is a volley master.
Hingis is technically perfect.
Raymond has the best doubles court sense.

But there are many other players, too.

So, who do you think is the best individual doubles player?

Hey, What about Suarez/Ruano Pascual.

They won Rome, Roland Garros, RU at Wimbledon.

They are one of the best teams:wavey:

I STILL can't beleive people make threads like these without mentioning Ai Sugiyama.
She is better then Anna.K, Daniela, and Lindsay in doubles and i say that with complete confidence.

When u see her play doubles you will understand why. Best volleys in the game only 2nd to Martina.

OF COURSE ANNA KOURNIKOVA!!!!!!!:hearts:

HINGIS of course.
She has won 36 DOUBLES TITLES!
But the significant thing is with so many different partners:
Kournikova,
Schett,
Pierce,
Tauziat,
Novotna,
Lucic,
Sukova,
Zvereva,
M J Fernandez,
Davenport,
Sanchez-Vicario,
11 different players!
9 DOUBLES GRAND SLAMS.

By the way, no insult to Jennifer Capriati, but she is not a doubles player?
Capriati and Hantuchova lost in the second round of Wimbledon doubles.

Cant really comment on WILLIAMS because they have only ever played together.

I think you'd have to say Martina Hingis ......not just the No of titles and different partners but also the range of styles of her different partners almost means she must have a mastery of what is required to offset the weaknesses of the different partners (whilst not possessing any weaknesses herself) ...playing with anna is going to be totally different from playing with Lucic ..playing with monica totally different from say Novotna etc.......

Martina Hingis
Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario
Anna Kournikova

All have won numerous titles with numberous doubles partners!

Overall, Martina N without a shred of doubt. Out of active players, Martina Hingis by far. She has 9 doubles slams, more then any active player(I think) and has won the doubles Grand Slam(98) and has won with so many different partners. Not ot mention she has perfect court sense, volleys, etc.

Both Martinas for sure ... they could basically win with any partner!!

Wouldn't it be fun if the Martinas teamed up!

Well, if the best doubles playeris the player who is likelies to win regardless of partner, I'd pick Hingis. Give her a big hitter for partner and watch her go.

Actaully, Martina/Chanda would be a fun doubles team. A little light on pace, but dynamite on movement and agility.

I agree that Ai Sugiyama deserves at least an honourable mention, a superb player by any measure.:)

At her best when playing with that retired, pretty, short haired French girl whose name escapes me....

I agree,
Putting Martina with a strong minded and bodied partner, those pair would be unstoppable, putting a good partner with Martina is a serious team and putting martina with Serena/Venus would be a formidable team!

Ai Sugiyma because she always seems to do well in doubles no matter who she's with!.

I agree with the above quote that Martina Hingis would be my pick as the best all-around doubles player...some people picked Martina N. and while she will probably have the distinction of being the BEST of the rest she is not the #1 doubles player at the moment...when she played against Anna K. and Chanda it was obvious that she hasn't got the goods anymore and understandably so (at 45)....the Williams sisters did win Wimby but Martina was not there....and while I think her presence would not have made a difference in singles...she would have in doubles..she's just that good!!:hearts:

I was lucky enough to see Kournikova and Hingis play together (in person, of course) at Advanta in Philadelphia almost two years ago (right after Hingis beat Anna 6-4 6-0  ). I've also seen many of her matches on television. What I pick up, from their partnership, is that Hingis is the one who sets up all the points, works the court, giving Anna the easy shot which Anna crushes. At Advanta, they played Julie Halard Decugis and Nathalie Tautiat, won 6-0 6-1. Hingis was setting Anna up perfectly.

The strongest part of Hingis' doubles game is her consistence, for sure. Most doubles players hit the top of the net a lot, but Hingis gives herself more margin for error.

I think Serena is the strongest doubles player of the two Williams sisters, but I don't know if either one would have great doubles success when partnered with someone else. But as a team, they are almost unbeatable. Almost. The primary reason I choose Hingis as the best doubles player (ignoring all her titles, stats etc.) is that last year, her and Seles beat the Williams sisters. The fact that she did it with Seles, the anti-volleyer, speaks volumes about Hingis' abilities.

I remember Werthless mentioning last year that Hingis should be a doubles specialist, and focus less on singles. That was both a compliment and an insult at the same time.

Martina seems to be doing fine focusing on both. Werthless doesn't know hwat he's talking about.

Actaully, Martina/Chanda would be a fun doubles team. A little light on pace, but dynamite on movement and agility.

Now THAT would be a great team. Apart from both being good looking, they have great court coverage, and would be able to set up points easily.

Another team I'd like to see is Martina/Justine. Juju's power and finesse coupled with Martina's finesse and court coverage I think they'd do pretty well together.

Pfft! At last a proper thread about me! I am THE BEST EVER. No question. I'd beat everyone if I was still playing! I couldve won GS titles with anyone, even Ann Jones.

Martina Navritolova without a doubt.
