when Mary Carillo was talking about Dr. Bartoli's unusual training methods and how Marion is isolated on the tour? And then how the only person she had in her box was her dad?

I almost started crying. I will definitely be cheering her on from now on!

It's really depressing when you hear stories like that.

At the start, the only person in her box was her dad, and I thought that was quite sad, but later on a few more people joined so maybe she had more there

I bet she'll get her respect now...good things happen to good people...I'm a firm believer of that...Bartoli seem like a sweet humble girl. I think she should watch some Monica Seles tapes..their game is VERY similar...she just needs to keep up what she's got going for her. I actually think she plays just as good frenchwoman Mauresmo.

WTF? Only her Dad? Where was her mother? Sisters/brothers? Friends?

...I hate stories like this, wrench my heart. She seems like such a lovely woman. I just wanna give her a big cuddle right now:sad:

She implied that it must be difficult for Marion to do her unconventional training methods in front of all the other players. Like I wonder if they mock or make fun of her?

I would hope to think that at least has someone on the tour she is friends with. And I do hope that more people joined her box later. Because the sight of just her dad there was really depressing. I cheered up a little bit when they said she did have a mom but then I got sad again when Mary said she never tours with them.

Marion is really wonderful. She seems very sweet and classy and has got game. Her baseline skills are awesome, serve improving and touch skills are above average. Her personality is pleasant.

That is really sad she seems like such a nice girl too I hadnt ever paid attention to her until this tourney and her acceptance speech for sure made me a fan and it was really touching to see her dad crying while she talked and Richard comforting him this is kinda how the WS were when they first came on tour but at least they had each other

EXACTLY..she won me over too..#1 because she took out Henin lol (sorry Henin fans) #2 Her personality throughout the match...she even did the wave with the crowd, smiled and laughed at some of the audience outburst, and she was friendly to Venus (did yall catch her try at the end of the tournament playing around with Venus as if she was goign to take the trophy from her while Venus was holding it  that was cute) #3 she's the underdog to Mauresmo being that her country treats her as a outsider and her game reminds me SO MUCH of Monica Seles...that I also love too.I hope she becomes a threat..and that this wasnt a one hit wonder..so keep it up Marion Seles..I mean Bartoli.

It seems like so much hard work, but obviously it's paying off, so I don't feel bad for her. I did feel bad for her father when he started to get emotional.

I think it's not THAT sad. I mean she surely can't afford travelling with 5 or 6 persons and what's wrong with travelling only with your dad? It's cheaper and as you see it is effective. When I play some tournaments, I always enjoy having JUST MY DAD there. My mom tends to get nervous and I can really focus when ONLY my dad is there. It is a great feeling when you can concentrate ONLY on tennis and nothing else.
She said in her interview that she's now heading home and I bet that she has some good friends at home - I mean she's such a sweet girl how can you not love her:)

I'm sure she has friends. She plays doubles with other girls so she must have some friends.

Plus most players have about 10 people in their box cos their agents, managers, trainers, hitting partners. not neccessarily friends.

exactly, she seemed to get along pretty well with Meilen Tu and I remember reading her blog where she mentioned Camille Pin as one of her friends:)

I'll bet there are two top players who are not mocking or making
fun of her right now.

And please, do you know what unconventional methods
she uses that would bring mockery.

Well as I know Jankovic, I think she is the kind of person who is making fun of Marion behind her back.
Remember what she said after the match. ("She's the kind of girl that practices 10 hours a day and is soo into tennis!")
That was so unclassy - I mean Jankovic is the workerholic and not Marion, she sleeps half a day and eats cheesecake. :)

It was quite emotional in a way when the commentators here were saying Marion and her father were a bit isolated. She's just such an endearing character and has a touch of innocence that draws you to her - like putting on her little ID badge before leaving the court! She has no airs or graces and I don't think that will change with this tournament. Some players may mock their training methods, but as she said herself this result s down to one person and one person only - her dad. Good for them :yeah: and I know I'll be rooting for her in the future.

Too be honest, I'd never even seen Marion play or speak before. I'd only see her tubby photos on WTAWorld and read her cake comments. She seems like a really sweet young woman. I liked her a lot. I hope she has a good run at the US Open. She's a lot more fun than unimaginative robots like Vaidisova.

Serena has demolished many players in early rounds in her career. I don't remember most of them. But, Marion stuck in my mind because she hit with two hands on both sides. I thought she had game and that she handled herself very well during her drubbing from Serena.

Today I didn't feel sad for her. I listened closely as Mary described some of the training Marion's dad makes her do because unorthodox methods work sometimes. I was really impressed at how Marion handled herself during the final today. I was touched by her wonderful words and her father's reaction.

I thought this was a good day for women's tennis and wish Marion much success in the future.

Bartoli has made me a fan specially after taking out Henin. She was probably overlooked by a lot of players but she wore Justine out and I noticed today she was wearing Venus down if she didnt take the the injury time out what could have happened today God knows.I like her for taking out specially big mouth jj and the final was better than the french open.I am glad she played in the final and shamed that loosed lipped woman jj.

mayhaps she wanted it that way. she did say she wanted to give all credit only to her father. So maybe it was supposed to be a special father/daughter moment.

I love Marion and wouldn't change a thing about her. I love the fact she is so different; so unique. I love her unorthodox serve, unorthodox game, unorthodox training. It's alot more fun than having everyone the same. Marion's game is extremely effective and she is proving to be one of the best players on tour now. I love the way she still is so innocent and still puts on her player badge after each match. She is such a good addition to the top of the game and I hope she keeps getting better and keeps breaking new ground. I think the public have really taken her into their hearts.

Marion plays doubles mainly with Meilen Tu, so I would say they are close?

well, when the UK commentators were talking about Marions unusual methods, i was thinking her father should be put in Jail for cruelty. Child abuse. Apparently, he used to strap tennis balls to Marions heels, so that she could keep on her toes. I mean come on. He gave up being a GP to coach Marion. He may actually be worse than Yuri (who according to Martina Navratilova herself, regularlgy verbally assaulted Maria in public. Just imagine what is going on behind the scenes).

Tennis Dad eh?

Thats nice to hear. Honestly, just a few weeks ago, we were talking about Marion being a joke, that happens to resemble a wart-hog. She really has gained MANY new supporters.

That said, she does need to trim down. She REALLY enjoys those bananas at the change of ends, always munching away :tape: But yes, we love Marion!

There is something so sweet about Marion that I have truly embraced. Like everything is so wrong about her that it's right. Normally such an unkempt appearance would really bother me, but Marion somehow makes it refreshing.

I didn't find it sad. Her mother doesn't attend because it makes her too anxious. And Carillo was only guessing about what it was like for Marion to do her training in front of the other players. They may not care one way or the other, and I'm sure Marion doesn't.

What made me sad was that Marion didn't win the whole thing. I am thrilled for Venus--don't get me wrong. But to see Marion do what she did--well, I just wish she could have done it one more time.

i'm starting to think this is a bit of a beat up on her dad. Just judging from the way she interviews and the way she acted after the final i have to say that i find Bartoli to have a very nice, genuine sort of personality.

Not that this is a good thing but she was sitting near Rainer at Patty's third round match without her father the whole time so at least she's not locked away or something.

I'm so glad people have gotten to see Marion for who she really is. It always made me so mad when people on this board would treat her so terribly so it's great that this Wimbledon allowed her to show who she really is :worship:

Although I may never understand what Dr. Bartoli's intention are, but hey if it works, why change a winning formula

I have to admit I had never seen her play before (that I can remember) - and she is not nearly as big as I was expecting from all the talk on here...

She does seem like a genuinely nice person - so glad that she was there - what a great day for women's tennis....not to mention she has game. The final scoreline does not really do justice to the fight that went on. Hopefully she can keep it up in the future!

Yeah unless they're both really good actors, they seem to be very close so I don't know if there's anything there to be sad about really?
She seems very relaxed and personable and I've seen her joking with security guards and fans at tournaments before so she seems a pretty happy person.

Maybe Dr.Bartoli isn't the Damir Dokic impersonator as has been claimed on here.

I said so many cruel things about Bartoli, especially after she beat Krajicek (and, well, guess who else  ). But this was like with Camille Pin, after actually watching them play, it's hard NOT to like them. She has a very consistent game, and even though she's big, she's not a tank either.

I hope she does well in the future.
