Best in the sense of 'most accomplished'. Marion Bartoli would run Helen Wills Moody out of the gym. But their respective career accomplishment aren't evn on the same planet.

.. Tennis players ..... Singles Specialists
01 Navratilova ........ Graf
02 Court .............. Court
03 Graf ............... Will Moody
04 Wills Moody ........ Navratilova
05 King ............... Evert
06 Evert .............. King
.. .................... ...................
.. .................... ...................
07 Lenglen ............ Seles
08 Serena ............. Connolly
09 Connolly ........... Lenglen
10 Seles .............. Serena

#11 would probably be Maria Bueno, #12 Evonne Goologong. Probably. However, there are 21 players in women's tennis history with six or more GS singles titles. Obviously, they aren't all top ten all-time. Realistically, to be considered for the all-time top ten, you need eight GS singles titles just to get in the discussion. Nobody with six or seven GS singles titles actually won enough doubles to overcome a two GS singles title deficit, IMHO. I didn't intend to have the same ten players on both lists. Just worked out that way.

NOTES:

Wills Moody - Played in a totally different era. Not as many slams available to her to play. No commercial airlane travel.

Court - Eleven OZ Opens when OZ was MUCH weaker than the other slams. Smaller fields, and the best none AUssie players often didnt' make the trip down under.

Goolagong - Four OZ Opens when OZ was MUCH weaker than the other slams. Smaller fields, and the best none AUssie players often didnt' make the trip down under.

Serena over Seles as an all-around tennis player? How many doubles and mixed titles are better than one GS singles titles. Well, it's one thing if the player with the many doubles titles has no singles accomplishments. It's another when the player with the many doubles titles has a lot of singles accomplishments.

Lenglen over Serena all-around? Well, she Suzanne F*cking Lenglen.

Serena!

Court was the top player of her era. Several of her AO titles were at the expense of other top players. Had all the top players competed every year she would have won most of them. As a mothrer past 30 in 1973 she beat Evert,on her best surface,in the FO final. She also won the USO and AO that year.
