Her strokes, her intensity-her pace all remineds of me of the great Monica Seles. She does after all models her game after Seles.

And you know what? Seles' game is exactly the kind Venus likes. She hits the ball flat which is something the Venus Williams game really likes!!!

Venus dominated Monica in her day and for the match tommorrow-expect the same!!!

Monica wasn't the same after the attack. And Venus was at her peak when she dominated Monica.

It is true, Venus really owned Monica back in the day, and as Marion is simply a lesser Seles, this final should be over quickly.

Venus plays well against flat-hitters who don't move particularly well, look at what she did to Sharapova. Still I hope Marion can make a match out of it.

Marion and Monica aren't the same person.

FINALLY somebody agrees with me. Bartoli reminds me SO MUCH of Monica Seles...VERY similar games..she just needs a little more Power..because..baby..Monica Seles had power out of this world...I will go to the grave saying that Monica Seles was the hardest hitter in womens tennis. But yes...Bartolia IS the new monica...well...once she get a few slams under her belt. Hopefully not this one though..cuz I want Venus to win lol

1.Venus dominated the after-stabbing Monica, who didn;t come anywhere near justifying the pre-stabbed Monica. Monica won 8 Slams before the stabbing, one after.
2.Okay, both do hit double handed off both sides, but Monica moved better, and hit about ten times as hard. Her serve was also more powerful.

She is the new Monica, no need the argument here. Even a blind can recognize her game. And for those claiming "No, the difference is that Monica had many slam titles" I'd ask to put peak Monica in present time to see if she would be capable of winning so much slams, if any. The game changed alot.

No such thing as peak Monica. In the first part of her career whens he accumulated the first 8 slams, i still dont think she was near her peak!!!

monica, steffi, martina nav. have the power to compete with todays games if they were in this generation and would be winning slams easily going by the standards set in the latter stages of the slams this year :o

I don't remember Venus playing Monica in her day in the early 1990s.

All this tournament has shown is that Bartoli has the potential to be a big time player using a game very similar to that of Seles.

You're right. We never saw peak Monica. Gunther Parche deprived us of that.

She dominated a shell of a Monica. An overweight, out of shape, not confident, post STABBED Monica!

Intensity? :haha:

She is nothing compared to Seles. To say she's the new Monica Seles is almost insulting to Monica.

Let's just clear everything up here...

Her gamestyle is similar to Seles. Their stroke production is sort of similar (though Monica's strokes were more compact) and the strategy they try to employ is similar (take the ball extremely early, use angles, hit hard).

BUT... to suggest that she's the new Monica Seles is ludicrous. Monica's strokes were WAY more powerful, her anticipation WAY better, her serve/return considerably better... not to mention Seles' intensity and mental fortitude are the greatest the game has ever seen (matched only by Serena).

I think 'very mini-version of Monica Seles' is more accurate than 'new Monica Seles'.

Rumors are still going that Monica will soon make her comeback in the US Open. Maybe Monica and Marion can settle this quickly.

There will never be a "new" Monica, but she certainly is a fitting tribute to her. I love the way she plays, and she's only gonna get better.

I think the pace of the shots is not the same and also Marion isn´t always going for winners as much as Seles always did during her matches and Seles takes the ball earlier. Seles serve also was better...

The similarites are obvious..the 2 hands on both sides. But Monica is left-handed and Marion is right-handed. I love the way Marion drives throught the forehand like Monica...I am going to watch the tapes of her and try that as I may be able to better duplicate her shots since she playes right-handed like I do. :D

But there is only 1 Monica Seles! :worship:

Where did you hear this? I don't think Monica would come back at a Major. IF...big IF...she does, she'd play the Canadian Open I would think.

i'll say there are some similarties in the way she plays (when she's receiving the serve, the two handed strokes etc...). but when you speak of results and talent, you cannot compare anyone to Monica. she just has that extra something, that I haven't seen in any of the player after her...
