Jul 6th, 2007, 07:29 PM
My opinion is that both players right now, still make too many unforced errors to win a major tournament - which I think could be a combination of nerves in big match situations and the modern way of playing, which is to go for your shots regardless of the situation, I think that invites unforced errors.

The players who win every major tournament out there make the least unforced errors over the course of the tournament whilst still been able to play aggressive. Neither Ana nor Nicole have reached that level of consistency yet.

I have great feeling about Vaidisova this year on hard... she showed her great game on rebound ace.. SF at Sydney and at AO :)

so hard suits her the best :) so she has great chance to win some title :) she has chance to win USO title but she needs great draw ;)

Misa will!

No maybe Ivanovic will take it, but she played very poor today and didn't impress me at all. But I know that she has a good game, but she need some time to show that also in the most important stages of grand slams.

Fair enough then. But once the draw is finished you have to commit to one or the other. No good being wishy washy and saying either one. Especially following your success with your Wimbledon pick. I'm hoping you opt for Ana personally. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if one of them makes the finals. Ana's been stepping up and going deep into the draws of the last couple of slams and Nicole's becoming consistant in them. But I'm hoping Nicole does. ;)

I still believe that hardcourt is Ana's best surface and that she gets her best results on it in her career.
If she improves as much again as she did lately then she certainly has a chance.
I follow Nicole's game less, but of course I think she can go far.
She hasn't won anything big yet and also no GS final, but it has to happen someday.
After today I actually don't know what will gonna happen.

Bartoli will be ranked 11 if she loses the final, higher if she wins. Unless she skips the summer hard courts, she and Henin won't be able to play until the R16 and possibly the QF.

I think they both are a little too young to take the title, mentally they don't have the big match maturity that say a Sharapova had, I would bet quite a lot of money Nicole won't, she just doesn't seem anywhere near actually winning a slam yet, she has the tennis but between the ears I'm just not convinced, Much the muchness with Ana although i thinks shes more talented anyway, and thus, would have a better chance of winning through her tennis carrying her to the title.

Ana might. Check this out.

The finalist at RG makes the finals at the US Open.

2002 Venus Williams Finals at RG and US Open
2003 Kim Clijsters Finals at RG and US Open
2004 Elena Dementieva Finals at RG and US Open
2005 Mary Pierce Finals at RG and US Open
2007 Ana Ivanovic?

If you go by that stat - then Ana would lose the finals.

I don't think Vaidisova is ready. Her failure to control her emotions and her game in the Wimbledon QFs didn't look like something that was getting fixed in three months. The mental toughness just isn't there. Yet. Also, she's slow. Ivanovic lost in the third round of last year's USO. To a player who then lost in the fourth round.

Seems to me both of these players lose to Venus, Serena, Henin, or Sharpaova on that surface. (On most surfaces, actually.) Factor in Kuznetsova and Jankovic, and I just don't see Vaidisova or Ivanovic winning the USO this year.

What happened to Marion?

I hink Ivanovic has a good shot at winning this tournament providing she can play her game well.

Seems to me both of these players lose to Venus, Serena, Henin, or Sharpaova on that surface.

I think it's too early to pronounce Venus as a slam contender off of grass. I made that mistake in 2005. Venus hasn't been past the QF outside of Wimbledon since January 2003.

It's time for Lucie to make a major breakthrough. She is the real title contender.

Don't think so.

hacberto
Jul 14th, 2007, 05:32 PM
Being honest I think one of this 2 players are gonna win it:
Venus or Maria then comes:

Serena or Justine then comes:

Ivanovic or Vaidisova

But I honest think Venus is going to win it. I don't know about Serena if she does well in her upcoming tournament Maria will be my third choice and Serena the second. I hope Serena's injury heals quick and I know if Serena wins a title before the Us Open she's gonna win it, no doubt about it.

I wouldn't dimiss Bartolis's chances. I'm impressed with her at Wimbledon. Serve is weak but her baseline game is very solid. (hits doublehanded FH and BH briliiantly.) It will be interesting to see how she deals with the higher bounce on hard court.

These two are not winning anything they are still too green between the ears.I have a distinct feeling that Venus is going to win the USA OPEN I feel her game is coming together this summer and she will definitely be on a roll.

Me & Ana
Jul 15th, 2007, 02:36 AM
I was actually pondering this exact same scenario immediately upon the conclusion of Wimbledon. Given, it is slightly wishful thinking on my part because Ana is my favorite. I also like Nicole's game as well. I think Vaidisova is good but Ivanovic is slightly better when both are in top form as evidenced by their encounter at Wimbledon. I was all over this bet at the sportsbooks. They had Ivanovic as a slight underdog which I suspect was the result of Vaidisova's victory over the defending champ, Mauresmo, in the previous round. Vaidisova needs to limit her unforced errors. Ivanovic's game is slightly more polished at the moment. Ivanovic US Open 2007 Champion!

I hope that this thread title will be the truth!!
I really don't see Vaidisova winning with such preparation as she has now.

Vamos.
Aug 11th, 2007, 06:10 PM
Nicole=no chance in hell. She might makes the Semis due to some incredibly fortuitous draw. But then her one-dimensional, bland and easy-to-take-apart game will collapse, as per.

Ana has a great shot. She has done incredibly well at majors this year and I think hardcourts is a surface that really suits her. I think she will be hard to beat come the USO but, as always, there are lots and lots of contenders.

My personal pick is Kuznetsova. And I wouldn't rule Henin out at all. She tends to always bounce back strong after dissapointments, it is her nature...

As I said earlier, I would pick one of the two and obviously I'm going to pick Ana to win the 2007 US Open.

If Nicole wouldn't have gotten sick maybe she could of won with the right draw, but now she has extremely limited preparation.

Aug 15th, 2007, 09:01 PM
I think the time has come for Ana to win at grand slams. For the most part of the last two years, we have just been waiting and waiting for her to arrive with the right mentality and comfort level in her game. She showed signs of it in the past, reaching the Roland Garros quarterfinal in 2005, then winning Montreal last year. I'm guessing winning Berlin this year really gave her the confidence to realize that she could dominate women's tennis. After reaching her first grand slam final in France and coming close to winning Wimbledon a few weeks later, it would not surprise me if Ana finished off the year with her first grand slam and a possible top 2 ranking. We haven't seen true domination since the Serena Slam, so I think the time has come for Ana to take control.
