“It was my first match on clay since the French Open and I had completely the wrong tactics, I was going for my shots way too early,It took me a little time to adjust to the tactics I needed but I did that really well in the second set and the third set and I am really happy to get another important point for my side.”

That's the bit I like

Even though Ana lost the first set, I'm very pleased with the victory.

That's because you're an Ana fan. And we've learned to settle. ;)

JJ won her match, so I guess Ana is not going to play the dead singles rubber.

Congratulations Serbia on a much deserved World Group place! On to get the title next year! :worship:

Congrats to Serbia!:yeah:

Jovanovic is playing! I know it's a dead rubber, but I have hoped Ana would play. Just to get one more match on clay, without the pressure of performing her absolute best... Can we still hope for an Ana/JJ double:hearts:

I knew Ana would not play when I listened to her interview. I guess she doesn't want to risk an injury so close to RG at a match that is not worth anything.

I do agree that she could use the match play though..

I was hoping for the same. I worry that if she has an early exit in Rome and/or Madrid, she won't have enough matches under her belt before RG. You never know with these draws.

I understand that she's not quite like JJ in the playing into form department, but the easy matches help, confidence-wise, and are good for making game adjustments.

Love your avatar, by the way.

With this line up, surely Ana and JJ's chances are close to 50-50? I would be (a little bit, although not completely) surprised if Pavly beat either of them, Russia's best chance would probably be Alisa winning two and Makarova/Dushevina taking the doubles. Of course if Anastasia upsets either of them it's probably over... Are Ana and JJ good at playing at home? On paper they seem to be favourites... in reality Russia probably has a slight edge, but I think it's very close.

I just read that the team capitains have until 2 hours before the draw cerimony for each tie to replace a max of 2 players from the submitted nominations. So, Tarpishev still has time to get a top player on the team.

Either way.. I give Russia the edge. As Ben pointed out, Ana hit 40 winners and 13 aces in a 2 set match when she beat Kleybanova in Dubai last year... and it was a tight 2 setter. I don't even remember the last time she had close to 40 winners in a match.. JJ isn't in great form either.. so my only hope is that they draw inspiration from the crowd. One of them has to beat Kleybs and both have to beat Nastya to be able to win. The chances of them coming out on top if the deciding rubber is the doubles is very slim IMHO.

Not really surprised... the surface was chosen long ago.. and when we think of the top russians, all are very acomplished on clay. Ana and Jelena, though, are much better hard indoor players (in normal situations when they aren't sucking). I'm talking about Kuznetsova, Dementieva, Safina, Zvonareva.. Besides it's in the middle of the hard court season and I doubt JJ or Ana wanted to have a week on clay out of nowhere. I do expect them to play on clay in April if they win this tie.

You are right maybe... The thing with Ana and Sven though, is that I think he is a great coach for someone who is highly motivated and with everything in order. If the player is not like that, and needs someone to push and give motivation and really focus on everything, then he just doesn't cut it. He has too much to think about and to do, to be that bothered. And Ana needs to get her head fixed now.

JJ, on the other hand, has Ricardo there with her 24/7, and he seems to be always motivating and supporting. Maybe they are just making the wrong decisions regard her game and her playing style. So another opinion could come in handy.

I wouldn't mind if Ana kept working with Sven.. but she needs some 24/7 atention, so IMHO she should get a full time coach and keep being a part of the APDP since she likes it so much.

This could also be said about Ricardo
When JJ wanted to do well and was hungry for success everything was fine, now not so much
And they don`t have a real coach and player relationship imo .During matches she is angry with him or yells at him,he puts suncream on her face during practices

And they don`t have a real coach and player relationship imo .During matches she is angry with him or yells at him,he puts suncream on her face during practices

Ana does not care about power of Russia
Ana Ivanovic said that Russia has the strongest team in the world, but said that does not demand composition and selection of the duel in the first round Fed Cup in Belgrade.

"Russia is clearly the strongest nation in tennis today in the composition as to come to Belgrade is certain to be strong. I am more focused on their field work and training than they think about who will play for the opponent team," said Ivanovic.

Ivanovic has recently arrived in Belgrade and has already begun preparations for the duel with the Russian who plays 6th and 7 February at the Arena.

"Last season I had some good wins in this competition, even when I played so well in tournaments. I Jelena and I have won all our matches last year and have a great incentive in this competition," she said.

Ivanovic added that he expects a good atmosphere and great support from the audience.

"I'm sure the atmosphere in the Arena will be great. Many members of my family and friends will be there and it will make this match even more special for me. Fantastic feeling playing at home," she concluded.

The duel Russia Serbian coach Dejan Vranes urged more Jelena Jankovic, Bojana Jovanovski and Ana Jovanovic, and the team will train and 16-year-old Alexandra Krunic.

Head coach Fed Cup team Russia Shamil Tarpiščev announced the arrival of Alice Klejbanova (31 on the WTA list), Anastasia Pavljučenko (39) Vera Dushevina (40) and Katarina Makarova (59).

Her new service motion looks so weird and non functional
What is even stranger she had her normal service motion during off season from what i`ve read :lol:

If youre a casual JJ fan used to the old one like me, its hard to miss. I only watched her match vs Alona, it seems the big difference is she tosses the ball higher, maybe so she can have more time to push off, and theres more knee bend going on with her new serve motion. Id like to hear what the JJ fans think about it, read a little of the Jankovic thread yesterday but couldnt find any opinions about it.

Yeah, the sweetness between Ana and JJ was the ONLY good story on female Serbian tennis in 2009.I really hope JJ gets her Slam someday;ideally, she'll face Dinara in the final so that one of them is GUARANTEED to win.Of course,my first choice would be Dina in that one but, right now, she'll be lucky if she can ever PLAY again, let alone be a top player...but,if Dina is gonna blow another final,it may as well be to JJ first...or Dementieva second(Elena has her Gold Medal Olympic 'Slam' already)...and then Ana:angel: would be third

Hey Jonny!

I think it will be very tough for Serbia, with neither player being on form.. Kleybs can very well beat both, and if it comes down to the doubles, we know how it will end up.. :spit: I hope they can do it though.. draw motivation from the crowd and play to win. If they manage to get through this they would get the winner of USA-France on clay in April in the semis, which would be a much more winable tie. And then they obviously have a great chance in the final, whoever they face. We all know Ana never loses to italians..:spit:

Yes.. Tarpischev has actually until friday, february 5th, 2 hours before the draw cerimony, to change up to 2 players of his submitted players nomination. I'm actually expecting a couple of surprises there.

Its funny that this is their B team. Serbia should counter with their own B team:lol:
If Ana and JJ can do it, i think it could help confidence a little, on the other hand there could be more confidence to lose here than there is to be gained. Hate to say it.:(
If Ana gets Pavlyuchenkova, i like Ana's chances. If Sveta plays, all the old h2h between Ana and Sveta is out the window. They havent met forever, Ana was a whole different player last time they met.
As for Kleybanova..well, Ill say Serbia wins in 4, doubles wont be necessary, Kleybanova gets one win over.....somebody.

I agree.. unfortunately, if Serbia loses in front of the home crowd I think the already shattered confidence of both Ana and JJ will get even more shattered. If they win over Russia's B team, then I don't think there is much confidence to be added either... Still, I hope they can do it.. maybe the thrill will be a moral up to them.

Serbia's only hope is that they get Pavlyuchenkova as the 2nd player. If Kuzzy agrees to play, then things get a whole lot tougher... even if Ana owned her in the past that doesn't mean anything anymore.. they were mostly tough matches Ana would lose nowadays.

Ana: "I believe in the victory over Russia"
Member of the Serbian tennis Ana Ivanovic said he expected a difficult match with Russia in Fed Cup, and believes in the advantages of the domestic courts.

Serbian team will 6th and 7 February in Belgrade to play first round World Group Fed Cup selection with Russia. "I expect a tough match against the Russian. It does not matter in what part will come, but we have a chance. This is the World graupa Fed Cup and there are no easy opponent," Ivanovic told BETA after training at the Belgrade Arena.

Ivanovic added that it is happy to be back playing before the home audience, because it is the most motivating and inspiring.

"I know that Arena will be full and the atmosphere is good," said Ivanovic.

Ivanovic explained that, in better shape than at any time last year.

"I am happy that my form is better. Of course, it will be difficult days, but the overall picture is good. It is a process and I know that results will come," said Ana Ivanovic.

Serbian tennis player stressed that Russia's similar play, so that god to appear, we expect the same style.

"We need to focus on our game. However, we have the advantage of domestic courts, so I hope the best," Ivanovic said.

Head coach Fed Cup team Serbia Dejan Vranes reiterated that he expected a difficult match against Russia, and added that do not know will come in kojemsastavu opposing teams.

The Russians have announced that part of Alice Klejbanova (31 on the WTA list), Anastasia Pavlyuchenko (39) Vera Dushevina (40) and Ekaterina Makarova (59).

"I think that will come and Svetlana Kuznetsova, the third world players. We'll see, now for the next two or three days," said BETA Vranes.

Vranes added that the Serbian team is not yet complete and is expected arrival Jelena Jankovic, who was in the U.S. for treatment of injuries to the back muscles.

"I hope that the Arena will be full as last February when we played with Japan and I hope that we will pass on. The atmosphere is great. We did everything to be properly. I believe that the girls be in the form to start the match and I hope the best, "said Serbian coach.

Last year,Ana beat AMG,who is a VERY good Fed Cup player, and a few Ana fans reported that she appeared to be freer and happier while playing for Serbia instead of herSELF...so maybe that can carry over to this year:)

But that is such a lie! Everyone forget that Ana was the one which played for her country in Bulgaria and all the crappy places to get us in main competition of Fed Cup. The "precious" Jelena demanded last year when we should play against Japan a bigger salary than 300 000 $ or she won't play. Our stupid tennis committee gave her money and she played. And she is injured? I mean, why is she joking with us? She plays tournament in Pattaya, and she will manage to recover until monday, but not until friday. So we will probably lose but at least we won`t have to listen `I will always play for Serbia` and as someone said this will probably shut up some of those Serbian nationalist as well

Let's be honest... This isn't about any injury... It's more important to decorate house in San Diego than play for Serbia...

OK, it's enough of sarcasm.

Jelena always talk how much she loves Serbia, playing for Serbia, etc, etc..
It's enough talking, it is time for play.

Anyone who believes that she is injured, that one is a fool or is blind.

Well it makes a nice change from the normal, I just signed up to bash Ana and/or Caro trend :p

Out of curiosity... what does the average Serbian in the street think about JJ pulling out of the tie? wondering if it's the same Ana got when she pulled out of the Olympics

I have the impression it's not good

If you, -NAJ-, knew a little bit more about payment in our tennis committee, you would knew that their payment depends on their ranking. So Jankovic did have 300 000 $ salary, because she was no. 1 in the world back then. And yes, she did wanted to have even bigger salary because she didn't feel that she is enough appreciate. She said that in public and you must seen it, because it was in all newspapers and on all televisions.

I'm sorry if I made mistake about her next tournament, I read it in Sportski Zurnal. There were also her statement where she says that she plays the best when she plays the most.

And I'm not hater, I'm just expressing my opinion about Jankovic. If you have problem with it, then just don't read it. I didn't offend anyone, so what's your problem??? It my right to cheer for who I want.

GO ANA, YOU ARE TRUE SERB!!! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Only thing that Jelena is working is just talk, talk and talk about her victory in Slovakia (btw, Ana didn't play then and maybe that is the reason why is she talking about that so much). And when match is there, she is injured... Sad! :awww:

It depends of what average Serbian you think?
Average Serbian that writes comments on some blogs or news websites, well those comments are never nice
Normal people who are majority in Serbia think it`s too bad she won`t play but it`s not that big deal
What some teenagers write on forum,or some blogs is not really relevant and people who take those comments seriously are just stupid

I'm so sick of Jankovic. :fiery: She is such a hypocrite! She always talks how much she loves Serbia and how she is big patriot and she would never refuse to play for her own country.

OOO, that must be some really serious injury, when she needs to recover by arranging her house in San Diego.

Ana plays for us and fight no matter that we gonna be so blown up by Russia. :bounce:

Are you serious? Ana played once, JJ played twice in so called "crappy places".. why is Bulgaria crappy?
She has entered Pattaya? Didn't hear about that.. Neither did Jelena :D

Winning all 4 singles for SRB will be even harder than seems because after eventual 3-0 lead probably Bojana Jovanovski will play against TOP40 Pavlyuchenkova.

Fed Cup build-up

February 03, 2010 /

The lead-in to the weekend's Serbia versus Russia Fed Cup tie continued today as Ana faced the Serbian media en masse for the first time since arriving in Belgrade. Alongside teammate Bojana Jovanovski the 22-year-old hit with, and signed autographs for, children at Zira shopping centre in central Belgrade.

Promotional activities were, however, overshadowed by developments in the line-ups of both teams: world No.4 Svetlana Kuznetsova is in Belgrade and will compete for the Russians, despite not being named in the initial team by captain Shamil Tarpischev, with whom she is known to have clashed in recent weeks.

Serbian No.1 Jelena Jankovic, meanwhile, wrote a heartfelt, if not melodramatic, blog on her personal website about her injury problems ahead of the World Group I tie. Her participation was in considerable doubt, but she is now expected to arrive in Belgrade on Thursday, prior to the first official press conference and official dinner.

Jankovic's interview at the Fed Cup web is hilarious.. :spit:

The guy asks her about the doubles.. how confident she is to have the job done before doubles.. and how confident she is they can win the doubles if it comes to that. She starts rambling.. hilarious.. saying something like "both me and Ana are singles players, even though I won Wimbledon in mixed doubles once... that has nothing to do with it..."

UGH.. it seems there is bad weather in Belgrade today, and people should have trouble getting into the Arena on time. :sobbing:

Ana might have to play to a half empty stadium.. My only hope was that the crowd could push her to play decent tennis... Seriously, she has no luck. :(
